Description

First ever build, was so exciting and I felt a great sense of achievement in the end (even tho it was mostly easy)

CPU: I wanted current gen, I debated about 4690k but the marginal increase in price was a step worth taking in my book.

Cooler: Wanted a dark rock 3 but it was more expensive and I said meh, this comes in push pull config and looks nice so might aswell, I get insane temps on idle, around 19, and after a few hours of csgo I reach maybe 27, need to run some load tests soon.

Mobo: Got this during MSI cash back period, so I paid £86 for a good 1151 motherboard, was a steal at the price and not to mention its sleek looks and the sexy steel reinforced pci-e slots

Ram: Found white ram by Ballistix, looked really nice and helped with the theme, didn't care much about the speeds as we're talking about margins here right?

Storage: 1tb wdb and 240 sandisk ssd, £38 and £35 paid, got a good deal on ssd so ya, sufficient and windows loads fast as hell

Video: I was initially going to get a 390 but decide to get a better monitor instead and a card thats good enough for 1080p as I'm sure you'll agree, its a lot easier to upgrade gpu in the future. I love it man what can I say, BF4 high 60 fps, csgo max 200-300 fps, gona get some AAA titles too and see what happens

Case: IM SO HAPPY I WAITED FOR CES, AS soon as I saw it I fell in love instantly, full acrylic panel, amazing cable management, PSU Shroud, what more could I ask for.

Psu: Mostly did it for the rating and alchemy cables which were STIFF AF, I never knew how stiff these were, you guys made builds with nice management look easy lol, I ended up replacing the 24pin and pci-e cable in the end with white ones anyway.

Monitor: 144hz is a whole new world when it comes to cs, I went from silver elite to global /s. But seriously, not the best colours/viewing angles but even moving the mouse on this screen feels so damn nice. As for freesync, I can't comment yet, it is there tho.

cable combs would make this build that much cleaner. how are the new crimson drivers with that 380? run into any problems with any games?

I personally dont like cable combs so this is like in top 5 build i have seen here

no offense to OP but this isn't some of the best this website has to offer. It certainly is great, but not like some of the copper/hardline water builds or custom case builds here

nice looking build. not a great choice of fans or psu though.

But the price is right!

the price for what? guy bought the psu because it's 80+ gold and had sleeved cables, which he ended up going with white extensions anyway. FYI, this psu is the same platform as the NEX G, FSP aurum. not a good psu and usually terribly overpriced because it comes with sleeved cables. the corsair LED af fans are sleeve bearing fans that cost twice as much as other sleeve bearing LED fans.

Nice! On my PSU, the only stiff cable was the fat 24-pin cable. I've seen reviews go back and forth between the R9 380 and the GTX 960, but how did you end up choosing your GPU?

Mostly due to all the benchmarks I watched, even if the 380 doesn't win a game its very close.

The heatsink coolers look way better than the AIO water coolers now I think! And as you've said the temps stay low. Definitely getting one of these for my next build!

Phanteks make some good looking products man thats for sure, I love it although I would've preferred the black version which is impossible to get a hold of.

I just completed my first build this past year and I'm totally hooked. The moment it turned on was so unbelievable. This is a great looking build. Cooler temps sound great, I might even get that model down the road if my closed loop Corsair ever gives up.

That case looks AWESOME too. Nicely done.

ahh thanks mate, I too was gonna get an aio but theres something awesome about that big chunk of metal in the middle of your case that I liked, wayy cheaper too lol

first build 1.2k spoiled ;D

  • 1 point

I don't think the build poster is spoiled but more than likely just have a good job and/or saved up for a while and take/took advantage of good deals on parts. Not everyone's first build is going to be a budget build (although the majority of them are).

Why dont you turn the fan so the white cables wont protrude that way and go straight in the back? Did you place it that way to showcase the white cable? Great build nonetheless!

  • 1 point

When I first put them in I didn't really pay much attention to this as I was scared about installing cooler lol, I plugged fans in before putting heatsink in and they've just sat that way ever since, idm it tbh lol

  • 1 point

Yea, ill prolly be scared too installing it that behemoth of a fan ;)

why did you end up getting a 380, i personally would have gotten 390 sinse you have a 260 dollar cpu and for gaming gpu is mostimportant

Sweet build, looks like it came together nicely. I'm loving the white camo Ballistix in particular, it looks awesome (and you can't go wrong with Crucial RAM, that's good stuff). +1

Ahh same, literally found it last minute and was so happy. Was cheaper too at £40!!

Oh yeah... I saw so much CES coverage that I forgot most of it lol

Why did you go with Windows 10 pro. It's more expensive than Windows 10 home and the only extras are things that only people that will be working on the pc will ever use.

The place I bought it from (software geeks), both were the same price so I said heck why not lol
