Not so basic build

by silexe

This started as an upgrade from a 8 year old 3.5ghz P4. I thought I would start out with a basic build with the potential to upgrade. Clearly I got carried away.

Updated Added NZXT Kraken x61 and Hue+

With the stock cooler, after 4hrs Borderlands 2 on highest settings, temps reached mid to high 70's The addition of the x61 received temps of mid to high 50's in the same conditions.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Using the stock cooler, I received temps of mid to high 70s under a full load. With the x61 I received temps of mid to low 50's

Install was fairly easy, and the H440 has plenty of room.

When I first installed it, temps were running up into the low 90's, however right as I went to turn the computer off, I heard a few bubbles in the pump and temps dropped. (I would probably let it sit upright over night to settle before turning on)

Has been running great the past two months of ownership. Super quiet, and great temps. With fans and pump at full speed, still cannot hear my fans over the gfs comp.

Absolutely love this case, plenty of room, both for fans and parts. Cable management was well thought out, and allows for an overall very sexy build

Case Accessory

Supports up to 2 channels, 4 strips each. Can control each LED individually on each strip, allowing you to create pretty much anything you can think of. Smart controls allow you to monitor PC performance at a glance by adjusting color based on performance. Also has a music reactive mode; However the sensitivity is not controllable currently. With my current build I only get a show from the lights when the music is super dynamic.

Absolutely love these headphones. The suspension styled headband provides one of the most comfortable experiences I have had with headphones worn all day.

The speakers are also fairly dynamic allowing you to hear minute details, as well as enjoy your music.

He might have bought it thinking it would make a significant improvement over the stock paste, I did the same, though of course it doesn't make a big difference

I originally meant to upgrade the cooler, but spent more than my budget; thus the cooler was cut from the build. As the thermal paste didn't cost much I figured that it would help me to get the most out of the stock cooler.

What's the card under the 970? It looks like a 650...?

brodosaur 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

maybe a sound card or some powerful networking card. Probably a 650.

It was a 650, I was using it as a dedicated physx engine; however quickly realized that it gave me no improvement on the build. It's now in a separate media pc
