Description

Let's start off with the build. I built this PC during the summer. Sold my Macbook, sold my PS4, and spent all of my money at Micro Center. I started off with the Ryzen 5 1600, R9 380, 8GB GeiL Super Luce ram, and the MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon. Along the way I slowly gathered enough money to get myself a MSI GTX 1060. The 1060 was the 3GB flavor, and did very well with 1080p games at a mix of medium and high settings. I used the 1060 for about 6 months, and I recently got a 1070 for christmas. I got a few other things aswell, but that was really the star of the show. I now have the CPU at 3.9GHz, on the Deepcool CPU cooler. I just turned 17 on the 26th. I bought everything myself, except for the gifts of course. Hopefully you find one of my reviews helpful! Comments suggesting improvements or opinions are welcome. Much more information in my reviews. I tried not to be bias about anything.

Part Reviews

CPU

I decided that this was the best CPU for me in this price range. With skylake being my other option, there was no way I was getting 6 cores with 12 threads for $200, so the 1600 took that cake. With the slightly more expensive 1600X also being an option, I didn't find that to be worth it as I would be forced into buying a CPU cooler at the time. I currently have it overclocked to 3.9GHz on the Deepcool Captain 240EX RGB.

CPU Cooler

I cant really say a whole lot about this cooler as I have only had it for about 5 days. But the things I can say, are that it successfully got me to 3.9GHz. Comes with a 4 port fan hub, and a RGB LED strip. Bracket was slightly hard to get on, but I just hadn't tightened everything all the way. I haven't had any issues with it and the installation was fairly straightforward.

Motherboard

I loved this board, never really had any issues. Only thing I ever ran into was an issue resetting the CMOS after a failed overclock, which was my fault and not the boards so it shouldn't be a worry. MSI bios is easy to use. Has a few integrated RGB lights here and there. Overall a great buy.

Memory

I have had a few issues with this ram. I occasionally get bluescreens for zero reason whatsoever. I cannot Identify the issue, I feel like it is mainly software, but I am not too sure about it. Doesn't overclock very well. Also has a very low clock speed. I wasn't aware of Ryzen benefiting from higher clock speeds until I had already bought the kit from Newegg. Best part about the ram is the lights, which are somewhat cool, they pulse depending on the current temperature of the ram itself.

Storage

Never had any issues, using at as a boot drive and to use some games. Super fast. Was given to me as a gift.

Storage

Nothing needs to be said about this. They probably use these on alien planets.

Video Card

Amazing card. Did a slight overclock on it. +100MHz on the core and memory. Plays all games on ultra at 74 fps (my monitor is overclocked to 74Hz). I play Borderlands 2, CSGO, PUBG, Witcher 3, WWII, and BO3 just to name a few. I would like to have a backplate, but that is not really a standard yet so I'm not complaining. I'll probably buy my own custom backplate anyway.

Case

Great case. I am personally a big fan of deepcool, but not entirely biased about them. I think this is a great case for $60, regardless of the company. Comes with a tempered glass side panel, 2 good quality fans, fan hub, and its own RGB strip and RGB controller on the top of the case. Cable management could have been better, the side panel on the right side of the case does not leave much room if you have a lot of cables. I have trouble getting the side panel on, mainly due to the fan hub that is mounted in the back. That brings me to my next point. The fan hub is a great thing to include, but, the adhesive on the hub does not stick very well. It stuck for about 2 minutes before beginning to sag, and then fall off. Overall, this is a great case for the price.

Power Supply

Great PSU, no complaints. Never had a single issue. Might need to upgrade soon to stay safe, but I think I'm just paranoid about that.

Monitor

Great monitor, I somehow got an overclock on it that got it up to 74Hz. Pretty nice and noticeable bump without losing any quality.

Keyboard

I couldn't find my exact keyboard on here, mine is the kumara RGB. I love this keyboard, has plenty of lighting effects. Blue switches feel good. Overall, might be the best keyboard for the price.

Mouse

Great mouse, several DPI options. Kinda small for a mouse, I don't have massive hands, but this mouse is still pretty small for my preference. Regardless, amazing mouse for $30.

Headphones

I have had these for 3 years. NEVER an issue. I know there are better headphones out there, but I don't feel the need to upgrade for the time being. Pretty good sound, pretty good mic quality, amazing build quality, great customer service. They have been thrown around, tossed on my desk, never had an issue. I know some people might hate me for spending $300 for them, but I think they are great.

Speakers

Now let me just start by saying that I am no audiophile, but, I have had my fair share of audio experience growing up with my dad. These speakers are amazing for $90 (price has gone up slightly). The mids are good, highs sound pretty good, subwoofer is great, gets very low, can get warm sometimes but that is normal. I've had these speakers pretty loud, usually past 50% never really distortion, if so it's the subwoofer because the songs are too bass heavy, and it is only running on 200W. Great buy for the price.

Did you have any fps drops, I have a similar build even though I did test my CPU and it seems fine and my GPU and seems to be okay as well but way whenever for example while I am driving in watch dogs 2 I get this massive fps drop my GPU and my CPU seem to stop boosting and they drive down to the idle state .

Sometimes, not too often. Not sure what the cause would be.

Great build, why 1080p? This lady here can support 1440p

AdubHD submitter 1 Build 1 point 4 months ago

Thank you. Don’t have a 1440p monitor yet, planning to get one soon. ;)

This is just another example of why GEIL RAM is inferior in quality. Wouldn't reach the specified clock speeds. Run LinX and see if you get any errors. I had to RMA mine and it was a nightmare. Only somewhat stable at 2133.

Okay, thank you for the help.

Super nice, I love everything about it. I bought it originally for $200. One of the better deals
