Description

Great gaming/audio production computer. Use for composing and post production - creating audio for video games. Current sound card included just because I already had it lying around. Have not put in the GTX 780 yet, as I'm going to save a bit more so I don't break my budget. Currently running 2 Radeon HD 5670 in Crossfire. RAM used was not listed here, so it is in the custom section. I have also added three additional HDDs from a previous computer for added space, a total 1TB upgrade (one 500GB and two 250GB HDDs). RAM has been OC'd to 2400, and I am going to bump the CPU to 4.2. Current Windows Experience Index is 7.1, with the only components not hitting 7.9 being the not yet OC'd processor (7.8) and the GPUs (7.1 on both video tests). Handles games incredibly well considering lack of current GPU - so far tested BioShock Infinite at near max settings (all but shadows) at a consistent 50 fps, Tomb Raider near max (again, all but shadows) for about the same (50 fps). Pictures coming soon, the current was when the tower was still a work in progress.

Great build just a word of advice Asus is coming out with the DC2 cooler for the 780 (if it's not already out) so if it's not to much out of your price range I'd recommend that 780!

But the stock cooler looks SO good :P

The DC2 has great cooling for overclocking the hell out of it and getting even more performance out of it also it's in red and black so it fits with your color scheme! Another note they redesigned it a little so I recommend taking a look at it.

I am going for the 780, it's just going to be a month or so until that gets added. Thanks for the advice though!

Nice build dude, for audio production I would recommend an Asus Xonar card. They tend to be better for music than Creative cards, on the other hand Creative cards are great for gaming.

I am probably going to upgrade to that when I purchase Pro Tools. I am using the Creative card for now since I already owned it. The ROG MOBO does include a great chip for gaming sound, so I won't miss the switch.

Look into the DGX or the Essence STX if you have the cash.

I'm posting a link to my SoundCloud. Not necessarily my best stuff, but it does have a good variety. I'm going to have to go through and re-post some of these and replace a few as well. All of this was done on a laptop with minimal software, so I can't wait to get some real programs going, like I was able to use in the labs in college. One or two are real recordings.

Nice build! But, it seems to me you might need to upgrade your power supply. A Corsair 850W Gold looks like it would suit this build well. That's just me, though.

If I ever SLI I certainly will. For now it's holding up just fine under all stress testing.

Yeah I guess so. I've always been one of those guys that loves to go overkill with the PSU. I always feel paranoid when I have one that has JUST enough juice. Hah but you're right it's fine.

As it said in the description, this was as the tower was still a work in progress. Everything has been completed now, and I'll be putting up more pictures soon, but cannot for now as I will be out of town for a few days.

Barely any performance increase worth paying extra dollars...

Three reasons: 1) The MOBO I wanted to use uses the LGA 1155 socket. 2) The RAM I am using is designed to be used explicitly with gen. 3 i7k processors. 3) Haswell doesn't increase on the IB's performance enough to really be needed, mostly boosting the integrated graphics performance.
