Description

Hey everyone, I just want to first start this off by thanking precrime3 for his many tips back and forth through private messaging and everyone else at PCPartPicker.com that may have offered me advice along the way. Also I'd like to give a shout out to Linus Tech Tips and Tech of Tomorrow for all of their helpful videos on how to build computers and detailed (yet entertaining) reviews on parts.

Just so everyone knows this is my first build and I've been on this site imagining what I could do when I finally had the money for about 2 years now ... and this is my dream build. I'll give the best descriptions I can and hope that you guys all love this thing as much as I do. This is strictly for gaming. I haven't played much of anything on the computer except Wc3 which I've been a long time fan of and cannot wait til Wc4 comes out (probably never...). I'm really excited to get into PC gaming and get away from a console. So far I've only played Black Ops 2 but I will eventually buy BF3 to get used to controls for when BF4 comes out.

Also to note I "modded" the hard drive bays and the back slot covers (idk what you call them) that came with the case. I wanted them to be red to match the build so I've included some pictures with the process and before/after pictures.

I haven't OC yet and I don't know if/when I will. I know that I bought the parts to OC and some will say .. "Why did you buy the parts if you're not going to?!" ... truth is I didn't mind paying the extra money and it's my computer so I will do what I want! :P

Also I bought most these parts from Microcenter as I live about 25 minutes away so the build ended up costing a bit more in the end.

CPU: I went with the i5-4670K because from what I've read it's the best bet for the money in regards to gaming and since I don't do any video editing or streaming I figured this would be my best option.

CPU Cooler: I chose the Phanteks because it had great reviews and matched the red/white theme of my case. Install we fairly easy and it's insanely quiet.

Motherboard: I originally wanted to go with the Gene (red/black color) but when I got to Microcenter they only had the Sabertooth z87 and that was my second choice and to be honest it's sexy as h*** with the armor

Memory: Bought this RAM for 2 reasons... 1. It was Corsair (great brand name and trusted) 2. It's read and looks freaking awesome on the MOBO. However after buying this I realized the MOBO is only compatible to 1866 so I just set it to that in the BIOS.

Storage: Went with the 120 SSD (wish I had gone with a 240) but this one was a great value for the price and I will most likely buy another one in the near future. Also got the Seagate one 1TB because it was a great deal in the end.

Video Card: I originally purchased the 2gb version of this card but decided I would go ahead and put out the extra money for the 4gb since I was going to 3 monitors. I love the card and was very surprised as to how big it was out of the box. Also the picture uploaded is the 2gb version I originally bought (didn't feel like changing it).

Case: This case IMO is the best money/value for a mid size gaming tower. It's silent, has great cable management capabilities, looks amazing in white and is an all around great case to work with. It sits on my desk and I can't hear anything unless I put my ear right next to it.

Case fans: I ordered these Phanteks 140mm case fans to match the red white theme of my build and because they are insanely silent as I already have two on the CPU cooler. They are currently back ordered right now :( so when they come in I'll post an update picture with them installed. My plan is to replace the two stock white/black fans that come with the case and put 2 intake fans in the front, 2 out fans (back and top), and 1 intake on the bottom next to the PSU if space allows it.

PSU: The PC Power and Cooling was a great option as it matched my build and from what I've read has great reviews/reliability. It also comes with a 7 year warranty and is modular so that was a win win IMO.

Monitors: As I'm new to PC gaming I didn't want to spend a fortune on an expensive gaming monitors and for the price/color I couldn't shy away from these. They have amazing color and match the case perfectly. LOVE them.

Mouse/Keyboard/Mousepad: So I bought these to go with the overall color scheme of the build as well. I personally love them. They only thing I dislike about this keyboard is that the four arrow keys seem a bit discolored from the rest of the board (they have somewhat of a grey tint to them) so I don't know if this is on purpose or not. I also do not like the position of the shift keys but I'll get used to that.

Lighting: So I bought two Antec LED light kits, one for behind the center monitor to have the red glow and one just above the keyboard. The lights themselves are great however I do wish the adhesive was a bit better. They've fallen off a couple times so I'm about to super glue them so I don't have to mess with them anymore. The NZXT white sleeved lighting is easy to manage and are super bright, can't go wrong with it.

I did my best with the cable management as you can see on the photo of the back of the case (would have done a bit better but will improve them once the fans come in and I have a bit more time to sit down and rewire) but for now I think it's pretty damn good IMO. For the inside of the case Microcenter had some red cable management tubing that I cut to fit over some of the ugliness of the cables and to tie a bit more red coloring into the case. Personally I think it looks awesome this way.

All in all I love my first build and hope you guys enjoy it as well. I am proud to have built this myself! :)

Enjoy everyone!

Note: I couldn't figure out how to put the prices for the custom items (I couldn't find them on PCPartPicker) so they are as follows...

Keyboard: $107.24 (after tax) Mouse: $69.99 Mouse Pad: $26.99 Antec Accent Lighting: $14.99 NZXT Sleeved Lighting Kit: $15.00 Red cable tubing: $5.99

Very well thought out. The process of researching everything, picking parts, and then building it is almost, if not just as fun as using it! Congrats man.

mmmm.. dat color scheme..

Maybe you'll pick up a new desk that would fit those monitors more comfortably?

Great color scheme. red and white is beautiful just like red and black and green and black when done right. you nail it with the extra detail. Love the build.

Look awesome, this is a build where you should've done custom sleeving, man that would've been great, doing a build right now for a customer with the same color scheme, just with a custom water loop, Sleeving cables takes time though.

but yeah awesome build, how does it run?

I would've went with a MSI TF since it's matching the colors of this build pretty well.

  • 1 point

Ya I was wanting to do sleeving but to be honest I didn't want to put the time into it now. I will eventually do it but for now the red tubing works for me. Personally I think it gives it something a little extra.

very nicely done! the color coordination, part selection, cable management, EVERYTHING about this PC is just cool as $&!*

Easily one of the sickest builds I've ever seen.. Love the white/red theme, I'm a fan of blue myself but you nailed it man! I didn't even know you could get half the stuff in white.. so jelly! Good on you for everything!

Thanks man! I'm still waiting for the 5 Phanteks fans... freaking on back order which sucks because I paid for 2 day shipping for no reason at this point... but once those are in I will update pictures!

Great build! Love the effort you put into getting this just the way you wanted it.

I'm a fan of EVGA cards and the Sabertooth motherboards (love that armor) and I've got the same case just in black/titanium grey front panel so I definitely like those choices!

Also I really like the tubing you used to conceal the power cables. It's a nice touch.

  • 0 points

Ya I was worried the tubing was going to look cheap but it has a very nice shine to it and worked better than I expected. I had to do some fiddling with cables and rearranging once I got the idea but I made it work and it looks cleaner I think until I can buy some sleeved cabling.

I LOVE the look of the sabertooth, just wish it had some red/white in it.

I love this GPU as well and just ordered my backplate for it

Thanks for the comment !

haha thanks, I'm actually going with 2x27 inch screens now. The triple was nice but I just didn't like the bezel on the screens.

It's easier to fly planes on three monitors :P What did you do with the old monitors?

haha I'm currently in the process of trying to sell them. There is someone on here looking to buy one of them, and on a very slim chance all 3.

Haha thanks!

I've updated this rig since this one... check the other build on my profile. I got a new PSU/Case/Monitor setup and bought some sleeved red cables and added a H100i

  • 1 point

wow, even better! that case is awesome! i was looking at that case but it was too expensive($214) where i come from! the sleeved cables are very nice, those details that make the project excellent!

Ya I really like this case compared to the R4, airflow is obviously outstanding and the side window puts the R4's to shame!

Also the compartment split honestly is an amazing feature and I consider this Corsair's best case

Now don't get me wrong, it's a really cool color scheme, but 3 monitors on a single 770? I know the classified has the memory to support it, but I think things would get a little rough while using surround. How is it?

  • 1 point

It was fine, one card at 1080p is easy, especially one with 4gb of VRAM. I have however made updates to my build since then as you saw the 540 AIR build.

  • 1 point

love the build but im seeing a 750w on 3 monitors for the first time. Hows it going?

  • 1 point

Well considering that the monitors don't draw power from the PSU it was doing fine :P

I have since then switched up my build to this one here: Eye Candy: Part 2

  • 1 point

Wow total respect of the color scheme all the way!
I respect such thing, I think it makes it neat but I would go that far myself.
+1

I got the red tubing from microcenter in the cable management section, you can find it online

  • 1 point

Sweet build. I love the red-white colour scheme :D How did you paint the bracket holders (or whatever they are called)?

  • 1 point

Thanks you should check out the eye candy part two!

I bought some paint/primer from home depot and sanded the pieces/primed them/we sanded/applied 3 coats of paint

It didn't turn out as well as I had hope but I probably didn't take as much time as I should've

  • 1 point

Could have drenched it in red but you went for white LEDs, classy.

You gaming on all 3? What games support it well?

  • 1 point

Haha I liked the white better to show off the inside instead of a red glow!

I played cod and crysis 3 on it and it was nice but since then I've changed up my build to this : Eye Candy: Part 2

+1. I see a lot of nice builds on here, and yours is one of them:) I like looking at the builds and then I realize I'll never have all the stuff I need to build mine. I just bought a gigabyte r9 270 windforce oc edition for $100 because it was brand new and it's an amazing deal. After I bought this, I realized I have no more money left...... :/ xD. Nevertheless, very nice build.

Thanks man I appreciate it, really brings out your insecurity/maturity level as a person. Judging by your comments you've never built a computer or put any effort into anything involving this site.

I'll enjoy when you're banned.
