The intention of this build was to be a mid to high range all round performer, but more importantly here was the emphasis on gaming. I wanted to be able to run lots of games maxed out and when it came to triple a titles i wanted to push graphics sliders as far as possible for the pretty pennies i had to spend.
GPU: As most gaming PC builders out there, this is my first build by the way, i looked into the video card first. The PC is intended to sit somewhat in the middle range, and i wanted to go team green the 960 seemed to be the card to go for. Many will argue that team red has better GPU at this price range, but i really wanted to try nvidia.
CPU: AMD was the way to go with this build, as it simply offered an 8 core cpu running at 4.0/4.2GHz for a price that intel doesn't match. The only thing i was slighty worried about when it comes to the 8350 was the high TDP of 125W. A hot CPU can lead to a hot environment, that could lead to a noisy system. Which brings us to the next component.
Case: Aesthetics were something i wanted to focus on with GodZilla. Something about white PC components has been intriguing to me, so i definitely wanted to include it in this build. I went with the, of course subjectively, good looking s340 case from NZXT in white. It offers a side panel window to show off my proudly selected components (which i later lit up with RGB LEDs, see photos). And the very smart shroud which you can use for cable management.
Mobo: The only features that i was really looking for in a motherboard were to support overclocking (which i still need to do), support SLI (for possible future upgrades) and have enough USB 2.0 and more importantly 3.0 ports. The 970 gaming also fit my 3 color scheme of white, red and black, as well as it also fit the msi theme quite well.
So far i have been very happy with the PC and have run into no major issues. I have also been able to play all of the games i intended on very high or maxed out graphics setting to play such as GTA V, Battlefield (4 and hardline), Battlefront, Project cars, Fallout 4, Black ops III and many more. The PC also performs well in productivity tasks such as cad work in SolidWorks and light programming in Python and MatLab.
