The ReMake

by glimerman

Description

I had the chance to sell of my 4790k and most of my parts so i wanted to give this x99 a try .

I kept my case ,monitor,hard drives,and wires . everything else here i replaced .

I decided to keep going with gigabyte boards because i used them for over 10 years and never had a problem, and since it was red and white and i had red and white custom wire set i decided to make a corsair themed pc.

Everything went well and i over clocked this 6 core cpu up to 4.3 with no troubles runing a 1.25 core voltage.

i went with a 1080 evga sc and ended up swamping it out for a 1080 ftw.

the main reason i wanted to upgrade from z97 to x99 was the the nvme sata drive ,the extra sata ports, and quad channel ddr4 memory. And it was worth it the speed is so fast everything just loads instantly.

I run all my games of the ssd's and the gtx 1080 plays anything with out any troubles at 1440p.

i painted the drive bays to match the red and white color theme and i am waiting on some cable combs to straighten out my cables next week

The Price seems very high but i have about 2000 in drives in this system . I had them from the last system so why not put them all in here .

check out the pics it looks way better in person hope you enjoy :)

Part Reviews

CPU

overclocks to 4.3 with no troubles and runs 73 max under full stress test stock speed and voltages dont break 50c

CPU Cooler

been useing this for 2 years and it works perfect still much better then a big air cooler

Motherboard

seems good so far the bios is hard to figure out the manual is not that great for over clock help and customer support is slow .might be my last gigabyte board. but once fine tuned in everything working perfect .the leds are a little bright

Memory

super fast reliable memory the light kit looks great on these . kinda over priced

Storage

best boot drive i ever used

Storage

good price for a 6tb and works good

Video Card

i love evga cards and there customer service is the best you can ask for. card runs perfect and plays everything thrown at it no coil whin dont overheat

Case

i love this case but after 2 years its getting a little outdated ., but great case and lots of room and airflow

Power Supply

modular is the only way to go ,so easy to work with

Monitor

i have bad eyes so i had to go with a bigger moniter. i love ips moniters but i cant find one thats 32 inches and 1440p . so i gave this moniter a try so far so good its huge .good for windows but great for gameing at 1440p games look awesome on this

Jesus Christ, 34 TB of storage?

jalarson5 1 Build 1 point 25 months ago

That's like...4 NASs, the entire library of congress, and about 1/2 a university's computer science storage server right there.

NarrateHF 2 points 25 months ago

Yeah, I mean seriously. That's over 2,000 bucks in storage alone, more than the entire system.

Pr0n storage

This is a beast of a computer build, although why do you need so much storage?? Can you please tell me what you use this computer for, im guessing its something to do with Video Editing or another professional application because there is no way I see this being a cost efficient gaming build.

i use this computer for everything . i have alot of kids and don't have much extra room in our house. i would love to build a media pc .a normal desktop pc ,and a water cooled gaming pc . just don't have the room .So this is my all in one pc .I use it for high end gaming . Also as a media server to 4 western digital live boxes , also for web browsing lol , mp3 or video encoding.

As for the drives its over kill but i had most of them all ready so why not use them i use the 950 for boot and programs i run ,the 2 ssd,s are for games . the 6tb black wd drive is my workhorse use it for everything and the rest are just storage , i have tons of 1080p and 720p movies and shows and full seasons .

So take off all the drives and you got a badass 2500 dollar gaming system . and thank you for the nice comment i have been painting them drive bays for the last 2 days im very happy how they came out . might do a crazy red and white sleeving of all the cables and use cable combs just haven't seen if i can pop them out the molex yet

I have to assume that 2.5V on the core is a typo or something. If not I predict a smoking end to your processor very soon. I have a 4.3 OC at half those volts.

your right forgot the 1 its running 1.25

rhanny13 1 Build 1 point 25 months ago

Phew!!! You had me worried for a second there!!

Dang

samwich64 1 point 25 months ago

So much storage! That there is something I haven't seen before. Great looking build.

hey thank you it all started like 2 years ago when i had 5 western digital my book drives on a wd live tv player and all i owned was a lap top at the time . so built my first build and and broke open the cases and added the hard drives to my first build , from there on just kept getting bigger drives and useing the old ones as a back up . i know its over kill but its so nice .doom i just got today is 50 gig so more space helps out a ton

towerdivermp 1 point 25 months ago

Airflow might be a problem with all those drives, as they will screw a bit with front intake. I recommend making the top, front fan exhaust while keeping the bottom front fan as intake, the top panel fan as intake, and keep the rear panel exhaust. Cool batttlestation by the way.

glimerman submitter 2 Builds 1 point 25 months ago

thank you what i meant was i want to stuff all this in a next midtower . maybee .right now i have 2 front and 1 bottom intake ,with my rad and top and back fans pumping out .my cpu maxes about 74 same as video card .thats full stress ,normal use i run about 50 c . i was thinking of putting this whole sytem into a nzxt midtower that everone seems to be useing now nzxt h440 . i was wondering if anyone runs that case full packed up with drives and how does it cool its so small compard to this

towerdivermp 1 point 25 months ago

I'd just make sure to do a proper wind-tunnel, with the same amount of exhaust as intake. Also I'd get some high quality noctua fans to really get the air moving through the case to keep temps good.

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 25 months ago

Them blue fans tho

You planning on changing that out soon or keeping it for the murican look?

glimerman submitter 2 Builds 1 point 25 months ago

i been thinking of changing it into the nzxt h440 white case ,it would look so good but i think that case just a little too small for me im not sure , and ya the blue fans not in the color scheme no more but i got a button on the case i can turn just the blue fans on and off when ever i want . at night it looks pretty cool. the fans are also built into the fan control for the case and after reading i cant just swap them out unlesss i want to lose control of the case fan control . so i turn them off most of the time

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 25 months ago

Oh that sucks. Agreed that the NZXT H440 would be too small for all those drives lol

glimerman submitter 2 Builds 1 point 25 months ago

i still keep looking at the sweet next h440 in white i think i might give it a try .. not sure yet but leaning to doing it .

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 25 months ago

Well if you want to then go for it :P it is a very nice case, I've built in one before when I was helping my friend on his pc.

jalarson5 1 Build 1 point 25 months ago

You could probably put 4 of those drives into a NAS or two....

jalarson5 1 Build 1 point 25 months ago

Sweet build!

glimerman submitter 2 Builds 1 point 25 months ago

thx

i painted the drive bays to match the red and white color theme

By doing this, it now stands out nicely. well done
