Did someone say LED?

by galangmiguel

Description

Been planning to move to mATX (after falling in love with the carbide air 240 case) for a while now since my old build was running very loud and hot. This was my first attempt at building PC for the looks after coming from a 2015 more budget-oriented build. This is also my attempt at building a PC without LED strips but accent lighting on the parts themselves instead. I only kept my GTX 970, SSD, HDD, Wifi Card, and PSU from my old build. Upgraded to the Skylake platform and AIO water cooling from Haswell and air cooling.

Thumbs up.

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Wow I didn't expect to get featured! Thanks!!

JWheeler_4206 1 point 22 months ago

You can't have a build like this and not get featured. Just look at it +1

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Thanks! I just wanted to share a build that I thought looked cool but the feature definitely was nice for my PC building self esteem :P

AIR 240 is the best case dood. Love the build, looks great.

I'm interested in getting a fan header like that for my build sometime. Where does it go in the case? Or is it just hanging around? Probably scrolled right by an image with it knowing myself.

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

+1 for Air 240 <3. It's pretty much just stuffed in the other side of the case within the jungle which is the wires of my PSU. My non-modular PSU didn't leave me space to to stick it anywhere due to the wires but I think it would be a different story if your PSU was modular.

Justiceinacan 6 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

I see. Also, that plugs into the motherboard so you can tweak the speeds w/ bios correct?

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Yes but only with 4 pin fans!

Justiceinacan 6 Builds 2 points 22 months ago

I'm stuck with stock AF120 3-pins but I was planning on getting 4 pins of some sort with a cooling update later. Thanks for the tips brochacho

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

No problem bromigo

420NoscopeM8 2 points 21 months ago

Did you have trouble installing 2 fans at the top from the tubing?

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

It was very tight and you do have to bend the tubing a little, so yes; it was fairly difficult.

MannyPCs 2 points 21 months ago

+1. You did an excellent job

Congrats

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Thanks!

scubadan 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

Coolest build hoping to build something similar, one question however, How was your cpu cooler? Any leaks and what were the temps like. awesome build again +1

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

CPU cooler is great. Keeps my CPU at a nice ~20-30°C idle and ~50-60°C on full load. No leaks even though I bent the tubes pretty sharply to fit the cooler in my case. Glad I could inspire your build and good luck to you on building yours!

Lyrix 1 point 23 months ago

Nice! very sweet! 1+!

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Thank you!

AnyOtherWay 1 point 23 months ago

Is beautiful. I especially like that first picture, the edits to that one look really quite cool.

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

The black and white filter really brings out the accent lighting doesn't it? :P

AnyOtherWay 1 point 23 months ago

It really does.

Phantom_III 1 point 23 months ago

That's how LED should be done

Good job +1

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

Got my inspiration from that movie actually :P

Lukehans 1 point 23 months ago

Very beautiful build, the color scheme is perfect and all the LED's are perfect.

Amazing job on the build keep up the good work. : D

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Thank you very much for the compliment! This build actually took me 14 hours of straight building to get it just right (the case was very tight), so it was worth it :P

Lukehans 2 points 22 months ago

I would think that it is worth it as well.

German48 1 point 23 months ago

A picture from the front side of the case with the led fans on would have been nice.

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Sadly you can't see the LED fans from the front because i have another set of non-LED fans in front of the rad -.-'

rojamb1234 2 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

I likie! Its nice that the lighting isn't over done, and is more subtle than sticking 4 RGB strips in there.

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

My last build had super bright LED fans and I got sick of how cheap it made it look. Tried to go for something classier this time around and thankfully it turned out the way I wanted it to. :)

Chewy9141 1 point 23 months ago

Great looking case. Nice to see a white build with no RGB that kills me Upvote for me.

Also how you like the Sandisk SSD looking at getting 2 and also there x400 m.2

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Thank you! I had the same sentiment about RGB LEDs myself.

Sandisk Plus is super speedy. Let's me boot in about 4 secs and the read and write speeds are pretty good for the price.

ThundahhChunkay 1 point 23 months ago

How's the noise on the thermaltake fans? Im thinking about buying some

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

They're relatively quiet even on max speed. Not super silent but bearable.

Painntrain 3 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

With all those juiced up components why leave the gpu? 970 looking a little long in the tooth. :-O

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Oh I forgot to mention this was just meant to be a transfer from a midtower ATX case to a mATX case but there was a deal on Total War Warhammer with this Z170M mobo so I said screw it and upgraded to the new Skylake platform too. The 970 is from my previous build and since it still runs all the games I play on max settings I don't feel the need to upgrade it yet :P

kudos2u 1 point 23 months ago

I like the minimal feel because it just brings it out THAT much more. I like the black and white theme, same feel I'm going for. Although adding one LED strip on the side would give the perfect amount of lighting, like a ombre. Just a suggestion. +1 my friend ;)

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

I was thinking of putting an LED light but then it would be a little too bright for my room and I probly wouldn't be able to sleep if I leave it on. Definitely a great suggestion tho!

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

I like to have my LED strips dim so that it has a kinda ghostly effect with the edges lit Andrew center dark.

LonghornAlamo2040 1 point 23 months ago

Oooh dis dank. Me likey!!

Crofter 5 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

Very pleasing to the eye well done!!

If only, for my bad OSD, there was a way to change the red mobo led to white..

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

I turned the red LED off through my BIOS but forgot to update the pics. Trust me it annoyed me too :/

KegiMasters 1 point 23 months ago

Nice build! +1!

Thank you!

Were you aware of the new Corsair logo and the old Corsair logo? Nice build by the way. :- )

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Actually no. Is there a difference?

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

The old one is the one on your cooler, the new one is on their website and it has triangular flags

I've never been this in love with a computer...... It's so beautiful......

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I feel the same way.

TygerPlays 1 point 22 months ago

Hey, that's pretty good

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Hey, that's mildly adequate

TygerPlays 1 point 22 months ago

lol

also, how are those ssd's doing? im thinking of getting some because of how cheap they are.

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

After installing an SSD I actually don't know how i got through life without one. Literally night and day. My PC boots in like 5 seconds and I can open my programs right when I reach my desktop without having to wait for everything to start up and stuff. Definitely cannot go without an SSD again and neither should you JOIN THE SSD SQUAD

TygerPlays 1 point 22 months ago

Oh cool.

I already have an SSD, but it's running out of space.

It's a 120gb Kingston job, before the NAND chips and the likes. I might buy me too of these Sandisk ones though.

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Sandisk ones are pretty cheap rn so go for it!

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I saw air 240 and was like fam we friends now

lol I totally get it when I was planning my build I was looking at mid tower ATX cases but then I laid my eyes on the air 240 and no regrets, my only gripe about it is that the side panel's window has curved edges which reflect the LEDs of my hue+. Doesn't look amazing, but I plan to do a full acrylic side panel for mine.

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

Even 2 years after it's release it's still a fantastic looking case. Ooohh that sounds like a great project! Good luck with the acrylic window!

combinehybrid 1 point 18 months ago

How did you manage to squeeze in two fans on the top while having water cooler not obstructing the space at the same time? Linus tech guy in the video only managed to get one fan on top because of this reason.

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

The fans are very thin and also I think I'm using the H105 instead of the H100i that linus uses

INFLCT 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

I personally think the black case would have made it better, but those few white accents and dark colouring inside make it look amazing. Great build

VapelordTakeTheL 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Did you use parts from a previous build, because there a better value cards for the money

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 16 days ago

Used parts from an old build so I just copied the values from when I first bought them

dcope 1 Build -1 points 23 months ago

Cool build. I would personally add the LED strip back into. Seems really dark. Personal preferences though.

montiago 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

I think that's what makes it cool. Black abyss with a few lights showing. I love the concept :)

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 3 points 23 months ago

Exactly what I was going for. I wanted the parts to be dimly lit but the LED accent lighting would be eye-catching as sharp bright lines in contrast to the darkness, exactly like Tron! :D

montiago 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Looks great :)

Enjoy your build!

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Thanks! I do very much :P

It's really great tbh. No hitches whatsoever and the features it comes with are great for the $80 I got it for at Microcenter!

MiraMinx 1 point 23 months ago

Good thing this doesn't have an exhaust then.

Err wait, I think I spoke to soon. Is the front the exhaust?

galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

Actually the back is the exhaust so I'm already wary of rebel scum

MiraMinx 1 point 23 months ago

Ahh, sorry sorry. The last three pictures threw me off as they had the front as the exhaust.

LonghornAlamo2040 1 point 23 months ago

XD

[comment deleted by staff]
galangmiguel submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Well it all depends on the games you play. The games I play I can max out on the 970 at 60-120fps, (Total War Warhammer, CSGO, DOTA2, Guild Wars 2, etc.) but for AAA games I can still play it comfortably at 50-60fps on max settings. It's still a very powerful card and it plays modern games at max just fine :D

Wi1dCard2210 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I'd say it's fine for any game but Forza horizon 3, that thing is more cpu greedy than 50 tabs of chrome. If you want the fancy textures, it's the vram that matters, so make sure you have a fair amount of that.
