Description

10/08/15 New fans added:

TOP: 140mm be quiet! Silent Wings 2 PWM Fan

REAR: 120mm be quiet! Silent Wings 2 PWM Fan

CPU: 2x 120mm Corsair Air Series SP120 PWM Quiet Edition, High Static Pressure Fan

Also, discovered why the GPU was not idling properly. Changed desktop refresh rate down to 120hz and turn off hardware acceleration of most application (Chrome, spotify,etc...). Gpu temps are now 33-35ºC with gpu fans OFF.

Waiting to put some juicy LEDs.

Part Reviews

CPU

Despite overclocking like mad it's currently set to default 4.0 Ghz. More than enough for my needs.

CPU Cooler

Ironically, I suspect is the most "noisy" hardware of this build under normal circumstances. Something that I definitely didn't expect. My main complain is the pump's noise whilst idling but it's barely audible if the case is closed.

Motherboard

Has everything that I can possibly need and packs some good aesthetics. Really nice built-in red stripe LED.

Memory

Good-looking, efficient and cheap. Didn't go for the 2400 version due to the lack of tangible benefits.

Storage

Standard SSD anyone should go for if you don't require anything special. In the future might add another one and RAID zero.

Storage

Well...we all need a big chest of drawers at home. There is space for another two in this case.

Video Card

Can't emphasize how quiet this GPU is when is not under load. It's literally inaudible! The fans only trigger if temp is above 60°C therefore, if you are not playing something 'heavy' it won't make any sort of noise. Idle temperatures are sitting at 59/60°C. Don't know if it's associated with the factory overclock or not, but it differs from what I read in several review (33-39°C). Maybe, I lack the knowledge to optimize it properly (IF YOU HAVE ANY TIPS PM OR COMMENT) If If set GPU's fans in a 1:1 profile, idle temperatures sit around 43-46°C. In this scenario, you can definitely hear the GPU but nothing outrageous. Just a slight "humming".

UPDATE: 144hz refresh rate doesn't allow the GPU to run at low memory clock. Changed to 120hz when not gaming and temps are around 33-35ºC (IDLE).

Performance wise: Holy ****. Holy ****. I can ran Witcher 3 ultra settings/1440p with continuous 80-87 fps. At this stage the fans are too noisy for my standards. Nonetheless, I use open-back headphones and can't hear them on top of my music or games.

Since this is a LARGE and VERY HEAVY card, there is a slight drop. Just make sure you mount it in a fashion that compensates the drop. Additionally, I manage to support it with my sleeved cable (notice how strategically I have put a zip tie around the cable and positioned them close to the case's base). I will find an alternative to provide some additional support. I will update this build when I find a decent solution.

SLI? I dont know about this one. This stuff is so thick....but it will definitely fit but I would have concerns regarding airflow. I don't think this card would be a great choice if you need to SLI or plan to in the future. Unless...you use a PCI-E flexible extension cable.

Case

Perfect for my needs. Slim, sturdy and cheap. Cable management is very, very easy. Some components are definitely not top quality, screws to give an example. But hey, it's so cheap! Black is matte with a nice texture, not that glossy crap. It does not leave a single fingerprint or handling marks. It's not easily scratched either. Overall, looks very premium despite its price.

Is Da Beast the name of the computer, or the cat?

INFAVSC submitter 1 Build 3 points 27 months ago

Both :D

Yay another Zotac Amp! Extreme, nice build!

SakeJams 1 Build 3 points 27 months ago

Solid build! How is the air flow on the nzxt case?

Hameck 3 Builds 2 points 27 months ago

How... How many PCI slots does that card take??? From the pics it LOOKS like a 3 slot card....

SlimAKATheSlim 2 Builds 2 points 27 months ago

From reviewers online, it's a 2.5 slot card, it has a 2 slot bracket, but it has some extra height to it, so techincally 3.

Hameck 3 Builds 2 points 27 months ago

Holy cooler!

ARoyalPanda 2 points 27 months ago

Nice looking build!

Providel 2 points 27 months ago

Man I'm building a new pic with Gtx 980ti and I'm wondering if I should get the Asus rog swift too. Do you recommend it and how's it been to you?

INFAVSC submitter 1 Build 3 points 27 months ago

Coming from an 17'' 60hz laptop to this....#goddamson

Providel 1 point 27 months ago

Haha damn that's a biggggggg upgrade :)!

I would recommend the Acer XB270HU Predator. It's an IPS panel so it doesn't look as dull as a TN. Although you do lose some pixel refresh rate quickness by about three milliseconds I believe. I personally use it and think it is amazing. The only issue I have is the build quality is a little meh.

Berlihm 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Yeah, I've heard the same thing. The only thing holding me back from building my new system is deciding on which monitor I'm going to get. I've been out of PC gaming or a while so now I've heard about 144Hz and G-SYNC it's hard to want anything else. That said, the XB270HU is expensive and almost everyone says the build quality is pretty bad and that they've had to return a few to get a good one.

This post convinced me to get the Zotac! +1 Sexy build man! I love how the GPU + the H110 GT give such a heavy duty yet clean look to your build.

skyfusdope 2 points 26 months ago

good build man, i like what you've done with this one. =D

PyroFuzion 1 Build 1 point 27 months ago

Clean build man!

noap7 1 point 27 months ago

Really interested in that gpu. How well does it perform? Also how hot does it run? +1 beautiful build btw!

INFAVSC submitter 1 Build 1 point 27 months ago

Im running withcher 3 on 1440p ultra settings with continuoud 80+FPS. Under heavy load max temp I have seen was 82. Thanks

noap7 1 point 27 months ago

Thnx soo much! May have to throw one of these in my build!

Nice im building something very similar. how much does that gpu sag? that was all i was worried about when i ordered it

INFAVSC submitter 1 Build 0 points 27 months ago

Sag?

FreeezyPop 1 Build 2 points 27 months ago

yeh heavy gpu's tend to sag toward the end

INFAVSC submitter 1 Build 1 point 27 months ago

Just a tiny bit..but mate with this kind of weight there is no other possible outcome. You can manipulate the threaded GPU cables to provide some support #tip

FreeezyPop 1 Build 3 points 27 months ago

ah i see. clean rig though.. im diggin it.

dedicass 1 point 27 months ago

It would look so good if you added some leds, complimenting the cool cables and overall amaizing build .

INFAVSC submitter 1 Build 1 point 27 months ago

LEDs and new fans are the next step!

Statecat 1 Build 1 point 27 months ago

Your build is so much cleaner than mine. XD But I'm still proud of mine. x)

overco 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Could you fit a second Zotac 980 Ti AMP! Extreme in there?

SefanZ 1 point 23 months ago

Seems like Zotac GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB AMP! Extreme Video Card is too big to fit in Mid Tower.

OverCasiano 1 point 20 months ago

Lol that GPU looks like a brick! but +1 nonetheless

Finlay_Massie 1 point 17 months ago

When are you guys implementing a view counter of the builds? :D

eligrills111 1 point 26 months ago

HEY does this gpu suport G-Sync for your G-Sync monitor? or do you just run v sync on it

INFAVSC submitter 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

It does support.

I'm not messing, I actually think it would be a great feature! Think about the possibilities...the amount of crazy statistical information you could draw out of it. Statistics...well...they are money nowadays. #justhetip
