Description

I built this for gaming/schoolwork/and general use. I really wanted to switch over from console gaming to pc gaming about 8 months ago so i got a job at a book store and saved up for this computer. I have been able to max out all games so far which is awesome for me. I will probably be getting an evo to oc it to around 4.1 ghz. I felt that all the parts were solid and i am very happy with the outcome. Also i got the mouse from a friend but i dont know the exact model, just that its a razer mouse. I am very happy and proud of this build and all constructive feedback is welcomed. Thanks!

Good build except the power supply. It's great when you are on a budget. But it uses cheaper chinese caps that can't handle higher temps. You should have gotten a higher quality PSU for a build like this like a seasonic, xfx, PCPC, or corsair hx/ax.

Ya but i could not resist the 54 dollar sale price at micro center

Agreed. Those PSU's are good for budget builds but I would go with at least an 80+ Gold unit from a reliable company for something like this.

Eh, it doesn't need to be gold efficient it just shouldn't be a Corsair CX.

What's wrong with CX? I know they're not top of the line, but they're not bad.

At that price point you could get something much better. An XFX 650w is a much better PSU and it's cheaper.

Oh, I see.

I will probably be upgrading to a 850 w tx series psu when i add a second 7970 but that wont be for a while

Internal pictures and the community can help you out. From what I see, you probably will want to spend some time managing your cables. Always sneak them behind the motherboard tray and pop them out where appropriate. A cable-cluttered interior restricts airflow which causes more heat build-up and dust collecting. Either than that, this is a hefty parts list. Congrats on your first build.

thanks for the feedback. Yes i am probably going to tidy up the cable management the better air flow would be nice

Nice for a first build! All you have to do now is get yourself a aftermarket cooler.

Great to hear you worked hard and earned your rig, so many kids get money from mom or dad and you know how it goes, now you can truly appreciate it.

If you're willing, save up for the Corsair H60. I have the same processor as you paired with an Asus Sabertooth Z87 OC'd at 4.4Ghz and it gets to 65-76C under full load (artificial stress testing) with the H60 and I'm glad I went with it. I think you'll really be able to take advantage of that mobo you have picked out with the 4670K if you go with water over air, plus it's practically maintenance free (bar dusting out the rad). Depending on what percentile your processor falls into when you go to try and OC it, it may take quite a bit of voltage to get up there (at least mine did) which heats up real fast (not sure if the Evo212 can handle it). If you can still return that PSU, OCZ is having a sale on 80+ Silver rated PSUs 600W+ on Newegg @$25-35 with rebate. It's very clean and you did a fantastic job otherwise, great build!

My OC: i5 4670K @4.4Ghz 1.3590V Core Voltage (PASS INTEL EXTREME TUNING UTILITY ARTIFICIAL LOAD TEST 6 HOURS). Keep in mind your chip may require much less voltage than mine.

No problem, and just to be clear, I have it mounted as an exhaust on my case sandwiched between two Corsair SP 120's in push/ pull config.

Hey pretty build :) I love dat case :D (I use one to ;3) but just wondering if you like that keyboard?

  • 1 point

the keyboard is awesome. i was going to go and get a mechanical one but i type a lot better on laptop keys which these have. also its great for gaming and the green led looks spectacular.

  • 1 point

I see you like it. :D I'm havin a hard time trying to figure about between this or some $80 cherry Mx red keyboard, idk what to do :/

  • 1 point

if you have never used it before i would go for the razer because for me the click sound on the mechanical keyboard can get annoying also i type faster on membrane keyboards but thats just my opinion. Good luck

You might want to get an SSD man, 120GB is enough for your OS, your programs and the game of the month.

Good Setup but don't overclock with a evo i did the same thing with my new 4670k and a evo a 4.1ghz oc burned out my cpu in 1 week bought a 3570k oced to 4.4 i have been staying under 72 deg for 7 weeks now.

Anyways how are those speakers? and i have that LAVA LAMP!

  • 1 point

That's weird. I would think the chip would throttle if it was getting hot enough to kill it.

  • 1 point

Ya haswell does run hot maybe i will get like an h100 or something. my speakers are really awesome especially for the price
