Description

I have been researching the parts for this computer since August. I have been buying parts as i went along ever since. A big thank you to everyone in Pcpartpicker.com for helping me choosing the parts.

My original idea was to build a gaming desktop with GTX1070 but then i decided to upgrade it to GTX1080. I spend an extra 30 dollars and got the side windowed panel for my NZXT 820 case. I love the way it looks. I also rearranged the fan configuration so that my rear fan is now an intake fan. I also added in an extra 200mm exhaust fan and 2 \ 140 mm intake fans and 1 140 mm pivot fan that blows air into my GTX 1080. I

I love everything about this system so far.

I am hoping to upgrade the system in the future. Water cooling followed by overclocking, increasing RAM to 32 Gig and having a SLI 1080 setup along with 2 monitors is what i plan on for the future.

I have tried to include as many photos as i possibly can but if any of you have any questions regarding any parts or anything about the built, let me know and i will do my best to answer them

Peace

Part Reviews

CPU

Great Processor. Cant think of anything else to say.

CPU Cooler

What an amazing cooler. I love it. It kind of looks a bit ugly with its white and brownish color but this thing is an amazing cooler. My CPU is at 22 deg C ( or 71 deg F) during idle and the maximum temperature that i have seen so far is around 48-50 deg C ( 118 -122 Deg F). It is super quiet too..

Motherboard

I love this motherboard. I was thinking of going for the M7 board first but then changed my mind to this. Its easy to overclock on this MB, though i havent done it yet but i have seen other people overckloc the M5 with ease. Accessing the BIOS settings is super easy and the spacings between the various slots ( for me its a big deal) is perfect. I am hoping to upgrade to a SLI setup in the future and will definitely be using the same MB.

Memory

Nothing reeally to say about this. I like it so far and it does its job. I chose this RAM modules because of its size as i had a large Noctua D15 cooler and needed a small factor RAM, Have no issues at all so far

Storage

Really Fast Drive ! Nothing more to say !

Storage

Loving it. THis is my first m.2 drive and i love the fact that its tiny and sticks on the motherboard. Really happy about it. Though in the future i might get one of those PCIE M.2 cards. I believe they are a lot more faster than the normal SATA m.2 drives.

Video Card

I was supposed to get the EVGA FTW GTX 1070 card but changed my mind and decided to go for the 1080. This was one of the cheapest and decent 1080 cards i could find. I have read numerous reports of people having coil wind noises from the card but so far i have not heard any unwanted noise from my card. Infact it is super quiet and the GPU temps are not too high either. I have been playing Total war Warhammer mostly and love the FPS and the graphics overall. Hoping to get another G1 gaming card for a SLI configuration someday in the future.

UPDATE AFTER 2 WEEKS: I loved the card for the first 2 weeks of usage but now am hating it. The card worked fine, no sound issues or anything like that. However for the past couple of days , after about 10 mins after i power up my computer, 2 of the 3 fans on my card will start runnign at high speed while the third one doesnt spin at all. The 2 fans that run are running at crazy high speeds and is super loud. The first time i heard the sound , i thought that it was my CPU fans or one of my system fans making the noise but i was wrong and it was the graphics card fans. I have the latest driver and the latest bios version installed ( tried reinstalling them both). The GPU temperatures are not high at all (25 deg C when the 2 out of 3 fans start running like crazy). I have the NVIDIA xtreme graphics software installed. I tried manually controlling the speed but it wouldnt respond. It works the very first time you power up your system and try manually setting the speed of the fan but once the fans start spinning they just go and wont stop and will keep running at the highest speed ( by fans i mean just the 2. The third one doesnt spin at all ). I tried everything i can possibly think of , reinstalling the xtreme software, using MSi afterburner etc etc but i still cant fix the damn thing.

I finally gave up and decidded to create a ticket with Gigabyte and created a ticket with gigabyte but it has been 48 hours and still no response. I then gave them a call and a lady in California ( who wasnt very keen to help ) answered and informed me that the they can take the card back and look at it but i will have to pay for one side shipping to. She said that i should contact my original seller as it hasnt been 30 days since i bought the item. I figured she was just trying to push me off the phone. She even said that the RMA process usually takes very long and that she wouldnt recommend it. Long story short, i am now in the process of sending the item back to jet.com and unfortunately for me i opted for no free returns when i bought the item, which means i will have to pay 30 odd dollars before i get a refund. I guess i just got unlucky with a bad card but i figured i should share my experience with you guys.

I have lowered the star rating for this card to 2 from my original 5. I wanted to give it a 1 star rating but i am going to give it the benefit of doubt and say that i was unlucky and got a faulty card and it is not a general issue. However i would give the customer service lady of Gigabyte in California a 0 out of 5. just so that you guys get an idea.

Case

Love this case. It is massive, so it can be quite heavy but i dont mind it. I love the fact that there is plenty of space which gives extra air flow and makes cable management so much easier. Definitely happy with this case. I ended up spending an extra 30 quid and got the side windowed panel for this case from NZXT.

Power Supply

Nothing in particular to say except that i have no issues with it so far.

Wireless Network Adapter

Loving this wireless card so far. It is super fast and is soo much better than some of my older wireless cards. One thing to note is the bluetooth functionality that comes along with this card can only be used if you connect the cable to one of your front usb 2.0 headers on your motherboard. Doing so means you will loose the functionality of 2 of your front USB ports on your case. Not a big deal but just something to let you guys know as i did not know about it untill i was assembling the computer.

Case Fan

Love the colour hence got the fans. Its cool and quiet but i dont think it is as queit as my Noctua fans. Definitely better looking though.

Monitor

I love and hate this monitor at the same time. Its great because its super wide but sometimes it makes me feel like its a small screen. Its definitely smaller than a normal 25 inch monitor but definitely wider. You will have to get used to the small size of the screen before you will like it.

Keyboard

I made a mistake while ordering and ordered the non RGB version of this keyboard when i really wanted to get the RGB one. Its ok though. I love the clicky feel of it and it looks decent. The software is crappy though and i feel the features on it are limited when compared to the fancy and expensive corsair and the Razer keyboards.

Mouse

Its just a 3 button simple mouse. I am left handed hence i got this. No complains so far.

Speakers

I thought this was going to be a cheap quality speaker considering its price but boy was i wrong. Love the sound. Its definitely worth more than the 33 odd dollars i spend on it.

Awesome work! Plenty of pictures and a nice description, also a big fan of your cat :3. You've definitely earned a +1, only thing I'd change is the title; It's build, not built ;)

Again, nice work! +

GTX1080 for 2560x1080 monitor. Come, let me clap for you.

I am not sure if you are serious or sarcastic but the reason why i got the GTX1080 is because i plan on using a higher resloution 4K monitor but i couldnt afford it at the moment. So i figured i will invest on the Card first and then someday in the future get a 4k monitor. The LG monitor that i have was only 130 odd dollars hence went for it.

I like how every part of your build gets direct airflow

it wasnt part of my original design, just something that happened along the way.

Im sure you've changed it by now. But you have DDR4 2400 listed. The picture shows that its running at 2133 - make sure you have XMP enabled to get the full potential of your RAM. otherwise. Great build :)

Hmmm.. i did not realize that untill you pointed it out to me. Thank you for doing so. Will definitely be enabling XMP later on today. Thanks again.

That rear fan should be turned around to exhaust air. Right now it's fighting with the cooler fans and bring dust in trough the back.

  • 1 point

Yeah i know about the dust part and i am working on a cust "Sock" filter on it.

Surprisingly, because of how big the case is ( its kind of hard to see from the pic), there is plenty of space between the rear fan and the CPU cooler fan. I used one of those essence sticks to see how much of a suction there is and it wasnt bad at all and on top of that it seems as if my CPU and System temps are really cool.

I will flip around the rear fan and see how that affects the temperature one of theese days. Will post an update once i do it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

do you think that getting the video card would be a good idea or roll with a different one?

I send the G1 back and got the Republic of gamers ROG Astrix Card. ( Still 1080 though). I love this card. So much better.
