Description

This is what has become of my first PC I built November last year. It has been a work in progress since then but I am finally happy with the end product.

Reddit thread

i7 6700K The only skylake options when I build my PC were the 6600K or the 6700K, so I didn't have as much choice as I would now. I chose the 6700K for the higher base clock as well as the hyperthreading. May not make a huge difference for gaming, however I do encode video every now and then.

Kraken X61 It was either this or the H100i GTX for me. I went with NZXT because I think it looks quite a lot better, and is the only 280mm rad cooler that fits in my NZXT case perfectly.

Maximus VIII Hero Again, didn't have much choice at the time of building my rig when it came to motherboards. This one had all tyhe features I was after at a reasonable price point. The red colour scheme is the only thing that doesn't fit my build, but eventually I am going to replace the red stickers with white ones so it looks a bit cleaner. There were two white motherboards available at the time, the Z170-A, which I avoided because of the brown PCB, and the Z170 Deluxe, which was simply too expensive for a motherboard imo.

16 GB HyperX Fury DDR4 What can I say? It's really good looking ram. I got 16GB in two 8GB sticks for if I ever want to upgrade, but 16GB seems like the new sweet spot for ram.

500GB 850 EVO One of the best SSDs on the market. Looks really good for display in my case too. I have it as my boot drive, as well as install all my games and programs on it.

2TB WD Black It's a really good HDD, 2TB is enough for all of my files for the time being.

Gigabyte GTX 970 Good graphics card for the money, over 6 months was way too long to wait for pascal. It gets over 144 fps on the games I play competitively, however I'm probably going to upgrade to the 1070 at the end of the year to bump up the settings a bit and get ready for 1440p.

NZXT S340 Really clean looking case, and small enough for it to not be intrusive on my desk . I was originally going to get a H440, but it looks like a fridge.

EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W It's modular and efficient. Much better value for money then with Corsair power supplies.

BenQ XL2430T High refresh rate, low response time. I'm sure colours look better with an IPS panel, but at this point in time, 144Hz IPS monitors are way too expensive.

K70 RGB Best keyboard you can buy. Everything about it is amazing. Shame I got the old logo.

Razer Deathadder I'm not fond of Razer, but I love this mouse.

Sennheiser HD598SE I used to have a Logitech G430 gaming headset, but after to using these I can never go back. Real headphones > gaming headsets any day. I use an Antlion ModMic 4.0 for in game comms.

Ergotech Freedom Arm The stand that comes with the XL2430T looks like crap. I decided to go with a monitor arm. The freedom arm looks great and is easy to use. It's pretty cool sitting in front of the monitor because it appears to be floating in midair.

Cablemod Sleeved Cables If you don't have some of these and you have a windowed case, get them, because they look sexy.

Thanks for checking out my build!

Looks amazing. It's just so clean and simple. It also surprised me how nicely the cables were routed behind the motherboard XD

Great setup man! +1, also awesome job with the cable management but i would suggest to route the mouse cable along side the cable for the keyboard to make it look like one solid cable and make it look that little bit extra clean :)

I can't believe how clean your build and desk is.

Where are all of the cables and cords?

I do have it, but don't play it :P

I asked since not a lot of games require a 144hz monitor and you said for the games you play competitively so I assumed so. But hey if the money's there, why not? Lol

  • 1 point

I play Rainbow Six Siege competitively currently, 144Hz makes a massive difference.

  • 1 point

Ahh yeah if its anywhere close to the difference in csgo than it would be a requirement for competive

This room is very clean. Unlike mine, with my damaged desk, my wobbly walls and my beautiful clay unicorn that i've made on a camping kek

Very nice setup, I love the looks and I'm pretty sure it will be a decent running one!

How is the monitor? I am trying to decide between this and the XL2730Z

  • 1 point

It's great! Really depends if you want a 24 inch or 27 inch monitor.

  • 1 point

Why the re-post though? You posted this like 3 or so days ago with a different name.

  • 1 point

Wasn't it called S3420? Something like that.

  • 1 point

Yeah it was.

  • 1 point

Maybe it was taken down for the drug reference? Idk. It's the only thing I can think of.

  • 1 point

Yeah, no idea. I feel like a mod would have just changed the name though.

  • 1 point

Yeah. Maybe he updated the description, or has better quality pictures. You know, something you wouldn't remember exactly from the last time might be changed. Either way, I don't mind seeing this beautiful build again.

  • 1 point

The last one I posted as a joke thing, but I realised that it didn't do the build justice. I put a bit of effort in this time with the description and the photos :)

Ok. I want to know where you got the desk and what type it is. I want to know what the monitor mount is. I want to know what led strip your using is. I want to know where you got that plant. I also want to know what all the cables are on.

How many addons did you have on it? Cpu? I don't see any performance loss with this setup: https://gyazo.com/85f48285aabf0209634f98bc59a6485c

I randomly had it once and then deleted it and a few days ago I looked up csgo wallpapers nuke

From what I've seen, and I have a Intel i5 4570, is that it eats up RAM more than it eats up CPU usage

  • 1 point

With the amount of Doris I eat while gaming, this would go from a White them to an Orange theme real fast.

You have a Ikea Galant, lucky ;-;

Great wallpaper selection and build, I love seeing builds that have wallpapers that fit into a setup rather than just not caring too much. Very fitting with your build as well

Damn your setup clean asf! For a second there I thought the monitor was floating, and that's some really nice cable management. Reminds me of Dream Desks on Jonathan Morrison's YT channel.

Great build overall.

+1

But I think @ this price point I would've gotten a 980 or a 980Ti, just my opinion.

As a novice, I can only comment on your style, rather than the guts, but man that setup is beautiful! I love minimalism. So sleek and clean, like a space station. Gorgeous photos too - they look like professional advertisements.

Edit: Definitely considering that hidden cable arm.

Mine is 100% level because I measured the length of all 4 legs with a tape measure. It's really difficult because they shorten when you tighten the threads but I got it perfect after 20 minutes or so.
