Description

I named this build "Silent Lightning" because the performance delivered is fast as lightning but is silent. It tackles any game I throw at it and it stays relatively cool due to the performance of the H100i, and the ACX 2.0 cooler on the graphics card.

I designed this build to tackle games in this generation, and even to be a little future proof. This computer was also designed to tackle projects for school but not to be a total workstation. The only issue I'm having with this build is the Corsair Link software; The software for the H100i is buggy, but it is a great monitoring software and I'm glad that I can create different cooling profiles to maximize performance within my cooler.

The games I'm primarily playing right now until I can afford newer ones are: Battlefield 3, Titanfall, League of Legends, ArcheAge, Guild Wars 2. The system handles all of these games at 1080p with no sweat. I don't have a 4k monitor, but I'm sure it can deliver decent performance(30 fps?) at 4k.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Keeps the CPU nice and cool, even while overclocking. Kinda tricky to install for first time users, but worth the effort.

Motherboard

Great beginner building board. Doesn't have all the features that premium boards have, but this board has M.2 and supports overclocking as well as crossfire. I would've liked to see this board support SLI.

Memory

Great RAM, sleek design. Had one stick arrive DOA, but it happens.

Storage

Blazing fast write/read speeds. A must have for new computers.

Storage

Kinda loud, but great performance. Good for mass storage and holding games.

Video Card

Amazing card, if it weren't for the RAM issue. 3.5 gigs of the 4gb of VRAM on this card runs at full speed, whilst the other .5gb runs at a significantly slower speed. If games have to use that .5gb reserve, performance drops drastically. Still one hell of a card for the price, considering it can run every game I've thrown at it on 1080p, using ultra presets.

Case

Sexy case, easy to build in. Only complaint is that the windowed side panel has a bulge to it.

Case Fan

Best. Fan. Ever. Quiet, efficient, powerful.

Nice build man! FYI, Lightning is always silent. It's thunder that makes noise ;)

I read that GPU's with backplates are a hard fit on the MSI Z97M-G43 Micro ATX LGA1150. Does your GPU have a backplate?

No, but I thought about ordering one. If I get one, I'll let you know.
