My first PC

by Timmaahh

Second 1080 is in the mail. I will continuously update this, it is a complete build, but will be expanded on.

I use this computer mostly for gaming. But I will also be using it for Music production, and video editing for my friend. He is a film major and he's very good at capturing triple A quality, but original scenes that he makes up. Right now it's smaller scale and he likes to do more skating videos. So what im going to do is get a keyboard, and Ableton/Massive and make music to his shots.

My ram is black, not red. I couldnt find the same DDR4 RAM in black on the site. Also some pictures are before I had everything installed.

Ill keep posting pictures as im improving my cable management!

Take some time to do some cable management. Not a huge fan of that case but other than that nice build.

Timmaahh submitter 1 Build 1 point 28 months ago

you shouldve seen them before i cleaned them up.

Post a pic!

I just did, and when i get home i have a few more ideas about the cables. Ill post more pictures when i update it.

That case....that cable management.... WHY U DO THIS!!!!! Such a beast build with so much more potential. A better case and some decent cable management can enhance the overall experience so much more. Its sad to see such a beauty be brought down by those 2 factors. Great build but can use work.

Back in April i made the decision to get into computers, I started out with youtubing how a CPU works, how a GPU works. What motherboards do, because in all honesty, when it comes to computers i am a noob. I wont beat around the bush about it. (Jayztwocents' videos helped out alot) Last Saturday I finally got my GPU which was the last component i needed to finish, got it to post to BIOS after unsuccessfully Q-flashing the most recent BIOS because of the Broadwell-E processor's incompatibility with my M/B current BIOS. Finally got it to work and did everything myself.

I'm just proud of myself that I was able to do all of that and not even 4-5 months ago i knew absolutely nothing about computers and how they work. I am still working on the cable management, and I will actually be looking into getting a better motherboard and when i do decide to do that I will be getting a fractal design case or the new cooler master case. My motherboard right now has limited bandwidth for the M.2 slot. So im getting less than half of the 2500 read/write speeds that i should be getting, board can only handle 10 Gb/second. Not knowing that months ago, I made mistakes.

But its a work in progress and I will keep posting as things improve!

But thank you for your criticism, it helps me.

That is fantastic honestly that you were able to do all that yourself. I just feel like even if u dont know much about this stuff or are barely getting into it or whatever is the case I feel like the cable management still shouldnt be that much of a problem since its not necessarily a skill you just have to spend a bit more time on it. I dont mean to hate on ur build by all means I just wana give advice my critique on it as it is what will help you in the future. Even on my build that I have posted I have gotten multiple suggestions on cable management and other stuff and that is what helps me make my build much better. Good work tho.

Exactly, and im not getting upset that you took time out of your day to express your opinion. I honestly appreciate it!

Thank you

Great build, great components, but the only critique would have to be the cable management. If you really want to showcase your components, and the entire build really, you should put aside an hour of time to clean the interior up. Other than that, great job!

Timmaahh submitter 1 Build 1 point 28 months ago

You shouldve seen the cables before. I did spend a good amount of time cleaning up the cables and they were dangling everywhere. Most of them are tucked through the back panel, but hey this is my first build and before this computer i knew nothing about computers

The corsair USB cable is a tricky one (the one dangling over the two 8 pin on my GPU) It wont fit anywhere else to connect to the USB header on the bottom. :]

It's actually worse than mine, and I'm a first time builder too... with a lot worse of a case. One of my fan cables are visible, but it's zip-tied down to the side of my case. I pretty much routed everything through the back/zip-tied it down. USE ZIP TIES OR STRAPS!

Timmaahh submitter 1 Build 1 point 28 months ago

My power supply came with a bunch of no lock zip ties. I Think i used most of them to tie up the cables on the back panel. Ill have to go home and take more pictures and try to get those cables managed!

Use clear tape if you need to, or tape that matches your build color theme.

Timmaahh submitter 1 Build 1 point 28 months ago

YASS! That is a good idea!

HarryDickDickerson 1 point 28 months ago

Oh damn! I had no idea that you were new to building! Well man, for that I say you did a pretty good job on your part selection and the overall build. Hell yeah man, keep it up!

Timmaahh submitter 1 Build 1 point 28 months ago

Yes, this is my first build. I started teaching myself how computers work back in April of this year via Jayztwocents videos, and each paycheck allowing myself to buy every part from new egg as they went on sale. I probably only spend around 2,500 on this build after all the rebates and sales prices are calculated. For example i bought my SSD's (the 850s) for 200, and my motherboard for 130.00. Tower was 170, power supply i believe was 120 after rebate.

I think the only thing i bought full price was my GPU. Even the processor i bought for 600.

Can you confirm that the Corsair H100i v2 fit into this case without issue? PCpartpicker says there is a compatibility issue with the Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition and this cooler. I attempted to google the compatibility and there seems to be overwhelming support showing that it does not fit. Yours is one of the only builds that shows that it is fitting. So, were there any issues with fitting this rad into the case? I contacted Thermaltake and asked about the dimensions of the Level 10 GT LCS versus the Level 10 GT Snow Edition and they said "There are no internal differences." in the sizes and specs.

Timmaahh submitter 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

I can confirm first hand that it fits. when you remove the top case fan, there are holes in the top of the case that fits the radiator perfectly.

Timmaahh submitter 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

sorry for the late reply!

TheBoyWhoCriedWolf 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

I have the same question as Lyktobspankt. Did you have to mod/alter the case to fit the radiator?

Timmaahh submitter 1 Build 2 points 26 months ago

I did not have to alter the case in anyway. other than removing the case fan that came with

TheBoyWhoCriedWolf 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Thanks, I'll be changing my cooling system soon :)

Flying.Rhino 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I like seeing someone else brave the "H100i conflicts with L10 GT" notices. So far Im loving mine. Dont see why all the hate for the case.
But I feel you on the cable management thing, its kind of a pain.

Ive seen that one, and its weird I play DOOM with my one 1080 xtreme at 4k nightmare settings and everything all the way up and the lowest ive seen the FPS ticker at is 38, and its there for a second and jumps back up to 58-60. I dont notice bad performance when it does jump down, it still looks amazing.
