Description

This was a budget build for gaming, video-editing, and multi-tasking. My budget had been $500 and I stayed just within it. This is my first PC build. I had no problems or DOA parts. Make sure that you check out the pictures and respond with your opinions.

This can run ETS:2 at ultra at 900p at 110 fps and it can run Black Ops 2 at ultra settings with max FXAA/MSAA/AA at 900p at 60fps constantly. My Black Ops 2 performance never dropped below 58 fps.

And in case your are wondering, my monitor is an HP 2009M which is a 900p 60Hz display. (Spec link: http://amzn.com/B001UHOX2S )

UPDATE (12/28/15)- I overclocked the GPU. I got 1166 MHz on the core with 1387 on the memory. Check out the picture with all of the results on my overclocking. It shows the FPS in Valley Benchmark and its score.

i3 6100- I chose this CPU for two reasons. One, it is a dual core with hyperthreading ruling out the Pentium G3258 since I do video editing. Also, I want to be able to upgrade in the future to a i5 6600k. This CPU got delayed by 3 days since it arrived at the wrong facility. This part came in 5 days after the second to last one.

Gigabyte GA-H100M-A - This is a MicroATX motherboard with two RAM slots. It had only one system fan header so I bought a 4-way fan splitter on Amazon for $7. It was also the cheapest motherboard available. All around this motherboard has done all that I need one to do.

G.Skill Ripjaws V- Just 8GB of RAM from a trusted brand. It looks really slick in my build and the clearance is not a problem at all.

Seagate Barracuda 1TB- I needed some mass storage and this did the job for a low price/GB. I don't care about WD vs. Seagate because they are the same speeds. This one just happened to be cheaper than its WD counterpart.

Sapphire HD 7870 GHz- This is where I saved the most on my buiild. I got this for only $95 on eBay! It was never overclocked and was used moderately for 2 years. I had to clean the up when I got it since it was filled with dust. But a few Q-tips got the majority of the dust off.

EVGA 500B ATX PSU- I wanted a PSU that had some headroom for overclocking and upgrades. This was exactly what I was looking for. It also was 80+ Bronze certified and EVGA makes some very reliable PSUs.

CM SickleFlow- Just an ordinary 120mm fan that has an red LED. It is my front intake.

CM Devstator- This is an amazing keyboard! Typing feels amazing and gaming is enjoyable. I love the red LED backlighting as well. The mouse feels nice in the hand and I really the the sensitivity control button on the mouse itself. All around a steal for $30.

Other: DVI Cable- My monitor only supports DVI-D or VGA so I got a DVI-D cable. Its digital so quality is good but there is no sound transfer.

Fan Splitter- My motherboard only supports 1 system fan so I bought this splitter, I needede to add 2 fans so this got the job done. No preoblem so far.

Part Reviews

CPU

Very fast and efficient! It is great for gaming and in games like BO2 I get 60 fps on ultra at 900p! It is also usable for some video editing as well.

Motherboard

Very nice budget motherboard! It actually has options to change the clock speed of my i3 6100 and the RAM (separately). It only has one fan header though so I had to get a fan splitter. Definitely buy this if you are considering it!

Memory

Nice looking budget RAM sticks that get the job done.

Storage

This has pretty fast boot times (4 seconds) on Windows 10. It serves as my PC's main storage unit.

Video Card

This performs great! I can play BO2 at 60 fps at ultra at 900p! It also has a great cooler that makes overclocking a breeze.

Case

Very nice case. It is also very easy to work with. The side panel does require some pressure to put on correctly when you route all of the cables under it. Also, the PCI slot covers aren't replaceable. Other than that, a great case for first time builders!

Power Supply

This is a very nice power supply. The cables are sleeved and the power supply itself looks great! I used all of the cables so cable management was great even though this is non modular.

Case Fan

A nice case fan that looks nice. The LED isn't as bright as expected. It is very silent though.

Keyboard

Amazing bundle! The keyboard feels amazing and the mouse is great! I love that you can change the sensitivity of the mouse using the button on the mouse itself.

Please do not link or discuss that subreddit here. Those keys are not legitimately distributed and break MS ToS.

Sorry. I will remove the refernce in my build.

Can someone tell me the performance increase of a g3258 to a skylake i3 with ddr4?

RandomPart submitter 2 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

A Pentium G3258 overclocked to 5GHz matches the performance of a Skylake i3 6100 clocked at 3.7 GHz.

This claims that an Pentium G3258 @ 4.8GHz outperforms a i3 4330 by a small margin. If you do the math, a Pentium G3258 at 5+ GHz will probably match a Skylake i3 6100.

Does this CPU come with a stock cooler in the box?

RandomPart submitter 2 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

Yes.

AkridgeGaming 1 point 22 months ago

ok thanks!

Your welcome.

hey i was just wondering if you could provide a link for the splitter thanks

heptoras 1 point 20 months ago

have you overclocked the i3 with that mobo?

RandomPart submitter 2 Builds 1 point 20 months ago

You need a Z170 motherboard to overclock. My motherboard is only a H110 motherboard. So no, I haven't/can't overclock my CPU on this motherboard.

fortking 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

So you say you can change the clock speed of CPU and ram, how?

We do not support piracy in any way on our site. The cost of the OS is dictated by the market and nothing more.
