Description

After months of reading guides, forums and watching YouTube videos I figured I would pull the trigger on this set up. This is my first build and I enjoyed the process quite a bit (10/10 will build again!) this computer will be used mostly for school as well as light gaming.

Before you guys start dissecting the components the case was a gift. The budget was ~750$ CAD I managed to get everything for ~850$ after tax (excluding the case) not too bad in my opinion. Overall I am quite happy with the system, temperatures seem decent haven't stressed it too much yet though! Let me know what you think!

*Please note the storage drive listed isn't the correct one it's actually a 500GB HGST 5400 RPM from my PS4, I couldn't seem to find it on this site.

Part Reviews

CPU

Perfect little CPU for what I need, great performance when combined with the R9 380!

Motherboard

Looks great and BIOS was easy breezy to set up, no issues whatsoever. Little overpriced at the moment though.

Memory

Good budget DDR4 sticks the heat sinks look great too

Storage

My first SSD good price performance ratio, boots windows 10 in less than 12 sec.

Video Card

Awesome card for the money haven't stressed it too much but so far easily able to play Skyrim on ultra with temps remaining under 65 degrees.

Case

Beautiful mATX case for the money, lots of space to work with! Used for my first build and man I was spoiled!

Power Supply

So far so good, 10 year warranty at $99 this thing was a must buy for future upgrades. I expect it will serve me well for years to come.

Very lucky to get that case as a gift... not only looks cool but seems to always be sold out! +1

jcowell,

Nice work...especially for a first build.

I'm not a big fan of the i3 myself, but you'll find no criticism from me on this build. Looks like you did your research and build what you could do with your budget. That's what doing a custom build is all about.

Questions: -Are you using the stock cooler for the CPU? I'm assuming so since you didn't list one separately. -Do you still like the mobo/video card combo? I recently used an MSI mobo/video card combo in my build and I'm extremely pleased with the two of them. Just wondering how you're liking the R9 380. -I know nothing about that case, but it looks nice. Was it roomy enough to set things up easily, and how is the air flow once you got everything installed?

Great work! +1

Thanks Hitman,

Yes I am using the stock cooler currently but I would like to get a Cryorig H7 in the future (if they ever sold in Canada!). The mobo/video card combo looks great, the 380 has more than enough power for me. The board doesn't have many features but I don't plan on overclocking or running two cards so I should be fine. The air flow is pretty good for a mATX case I would say, I have a 200mm intake fan in the front and a 140mm fan in the back, and there are no drive cages obstructing airflow.

Very nice build! :D

I have a question for you. I'm thinking about buying the same motherboard, MSI H110M Gaming Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard. How many SATA cables did it come with? I'm just wondering since I can't find any pictures or specifications that say how many it comes with. Thanks :)

Thanks Luigi! The board comes with 2 SATA cables, and the one has a 90 degree angle on one side of it. I'll make sure to check out your build once its finished, best of luck!

I have one more question. I just installed everything and everything seems to work for the moment. I'll post pictures soon.

Anyways, when you start up your PC, does the graphics card debug LED come on and than turn off once the BIOS/Boot screen appears? There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the graphic card, everything seems to work as intended. But that's the only time it comes on. Just wondering if its normal. Thanks. :)

Hey SuperLuigi, Yes post pictures I want to check it out! Yea the degug LED does the exact same thing in mine so I am thinking its normal, maybe It's just to show you that the LED still works lol

I did some digging, it is normal. It just does it on startup because it's initializing the card.

I'll post them when I get home :P

Also, does your Gaming App have the Video Card Selections grey out? I have the EVGA GTX 960 and it won't let me select any of the video card options for the OCD. My friend said could be because its not MSI, but further investigation is needed :P

Ahh okay good to know!

No I don't think it's grey'ed out? I honestly havnt fiddled around with it too much other than adjusting the gpu fan curve and capping the card 60fps. I feel like it shouldn't matter if it's msi or not though :P

That's what i need! But I want to ask you some questons about the motherboard and RAM. 1.does this motherboard support 2133 mhz only or supports higher speeds (2400 mhz....)? 2.in picture 24, i saw the fans connector, is it available in every case or in some cases? I want to build my computer by using the parts in the link below, but i am not sure about the RAM, can you help me please?

Hey Aljawhara, 1) I believe the motherboard only supports up to 2133 mhz unfortunately 2) The fan connector is not included in every case, I believe phanteks includes one in each of there cases but I don't think the case you mention in your parts list has one. You can always buy a splitter or a hub like the one included below if need be.

Your parts list looks good, if you have room left in your budget I would recommend investing it in your power supply, and SSD then maybe the GPU depending on what you will be using it for. Best of luck with your build!

How does this build do on cs go?

Not sure never played the game, preforms well on Skyrim and Tera but that's all I have had a chance to use it for! It survived firestrike though!

how is your PC after months later?

Good, I am happy! I had a few issues with the R9 380 getting the black screen shut off, but I think I got it sorted. I actually just put a slight OC on the 380 for fun and it does quite a bit better on firestrike. In retrospect I could have saved money in places but man this thing is nice to look at on my desk!
