Description

First off, we spent about $950 buying everything at the time of purchase.

Problems encountered: We had to RMA the board because after about 5 boots it something somehow got completely fried and refused to turn on. Over the phone support from ASRock didn't help at all, so it went back to Newegg. The day after they received it, it was back here. We unfortunately did have to pay return shipping, but oh well. Everything seems tok be working now. EXCEPT the GPU. The GPU had a loud rattling noise that would happen every 2 seconds and would rattle for 1 second. Nothing blocking the fans, nothing hitting it, nothing that should have caused this. Normally he probably would've dealt with it, but since we had to RMA the board, we might as well also send the GPU back to NCIX, and we did. that actually hasn't arrived yet. It should be in tuesday, and I'll be installing it then. For now the dedicated graphics are enough.

The monitor was an Acer 23", but I think it got discontinued and thus no longer shows up on this site

Cable manage wasn't really a priority. He didn't want anything done but I insisted anyway, not going too overboard. The 912 doesn't have a windows so it's no big deal.

The front case fan on the HAF 912 if impossible to reach the motherboard to plug in, so it's just a wasted fan for now. I'll wait and see if their temps are that bad, and if they are, I'll move the front fan to the side panel for some better airflow.

When you get the 660Ti back, make sure you put it in the top 16x slot, as thats the slot that tends to be always wired for 16x, some other slots may only be wired for 8x or even only 4x so you will start getting a bottleneck

Are you sure? I looked in the motherboard manual and the bottom slot was the PCIe 3.0 slot. the top is 2.0. Does that only make a difference with ivy bridge though?

You are correct, and that is the oddest mobo layout i have ever seen... i would have put it in the top slot and forgotten about it.. :|

So you're saying put it in the bottom slot for the 3.0 right?

Yeah I agree. Get's the job done I guess, despite the need of replacement.

Nice build indeed, although being a video editor the processor is not enough, but that is just me. You are just gaming, so you should be fine.

Exactly. I personally would've gone with a 3570k for gaming, but it wasn't in the budget. For video editing I'd of course go for an i7 though.
