Build

Dad's Super Browser

by Brianw91

Description

It was Dads Bday, and time for a new rig. I am really glad with how this one turned out, the h400i was a perfect match to replace his old antec case that was unnecessarily massive for his needs.

He pretty much just browses the web and watches HD video, so this is a powerful little system for him. One thing that i got for him that i could not find to include in the parts list is a MediaSonic 4 bay esata/usb3 external hdd enclosure. He Had a bunch of hard drives just sitting in his old case as places to store movies and other large media files but it was all just a mess, there was no where for them all to go in this new case anyway. this enclosure lets him keep his giant movie library off system and just turn on the enclosure when its time to load up the drives, he is really happy with the set up. here is the enclosure http://a.co/aO6cOpz .

In building him this new system I wanted to get him some solid state storage and a boot drive to get him up to speed with modern times. so i went with the two adata drives as they are very reasonably priced.

the one toshiba p300 that is in the parts list is not one of the drives in the drive enclosure, i just knew if i took all of his spinners from him he would have spinner seperation anxiety, so i put that one in his case for quick access at all times.

Thanks for taking time to check out this birthday build!

if you have any questions i will be happy to answer them. I Have other build as well if you would like to view my profile.

If he's browsing with Google Chrome this build is a little underpowered. Chrome needs at least 64GB of RAM to avoid catastrophic system failure.

The 1050ti is nice, youtube videos should have no problem playing at 12K/120FPS.

In all seriousness, fantastic build, Great gift for your Dad.

+1

Haha i know its a bit much, but the parts had to be better than his last build so it just ended up like this, i had a spare i3-8100 laying around, and i had to go with that MSI 1050ti for the red, his last build had a 550ti in it so i just thought the huge generational jump was an awsome thing and also.

thanks for the comments!

I dig the color scheme, and the parts you selected are also not bad at all. Very nice

Hey man nice build! Its similar to mine I think. Would you mind checking mine out and giving me advice? Sounds like you've build a pc before and I am very new to this. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CvgCD2

Sorry it took so long to reply. I checked out your parts list, it is very solid. I don't know what you plan to do with your computer but the parts you picked are basically exactly what i picked for my 1st coffee lake build and my advice is that if you plan on playing anything like pubg or gtav, to just go for the 1060 6gb card, the 1050ti is great and will run those games but it leaves something to be desired.

Yes! An amendment to my reply to BentQTip below, when i built my coffee lake pc the only boards available were z370 boards, thus i overlooked this while checking out your parts list. Now that there are many boards that support the 300 series chips T3THYS is 100% correct, with the exception being if your 8100 is just going to be a place holder for now.
