Description

Just graduated in May, was forced to live off of a laptop because of traveling so much in college... Missed having a bad *** rig, because I love gaming. I'm a huge MMO/FPS fan. Turns out some of the case leds suck, I think I might take off the front part (It has hinges). It looks really nice either way...

But, yea this was my first build. I got a job right out of University so I decided to spoil myself with a nice rig to enhance the experience on my computer. I am on it a lot, I go to work and work on a computer all day; but still I cannot wait to get home to this baby! let me know what ya'll think, I'm downloading FFXIV as I type this :) I can't wait.

BTW: I know it's a lot of over kill but I don't care. I wanted it that way.

Hell yea man, rock on. I dig the color scheme you got going on your 'Semper Solus' build. Good stuff dude.

Should have put White fans to bring out the Green :)

I actually have a white LED strip, it does look nice. I might install it and then post results, see what people think looks the best.

Nice build, I wanted a green themed build but color choices are limited for it. The only thing I would've changed would be the PSU, since 1000W is pretty overkill even for an SLI 770's but everything else looks good to me!

yea, it was a challenge finding everything green. But, I enjoy looking at it now haha. So much light inside @_@

It's big, green and angry...

Seriously though, nice build. Overkill is name of my game in most cases as well, although I went with a 2GB 770 since I have no need for a multi-monitor setup. Hell, I'll probably be forgoing the whole monitor thing when Oculus Rift comes out (that thing looks SWEEEEET!).

On your comment that it was hard 'finding everything in green,' that was one of the reasons I went with an ASUS Sabertooth. Not for the green, as I'm going to do a red and white Canadian theme (just finalizing my flag/Avro Arrow design for both sides of the case and waiting for money for supplies), but you can remove and airbrush the thermal armour on the mobo. It makes designing a unique build that much easier.

EDIT: I just realized that I mixed up the names between yours and the build above yours... Hence the first sentence. Ugh, vodka... Oh well.

what do you think of the motherboard?

Haha, I'm glad you asked. I am really enjoying it, all of the options I have with it and the pre-installed sound capabilities really make it an optimal choice for hard core gamers. 9 fan inputs and cooling that came with, it's a beast dude. It doesn't break a sweat with FFXIV on full blast along with streaming HDMI out of its inputs. More than great for multi-monitor set ups and audio freaks. The BIOS is extremely accessible and detailed. Plus it's green :)

I was thinking about getting that monitor for my build, is it any good?

I like the responsiveness of it and how big they are, took me a while to get used to playing my games on them... but, they're definitely worth the asking price. (which I find to be a great deal for hdmi)

is better than the Asus maximus VI hero or the Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5?

I like it. And that motherboard has the highly coveted PLX chip, so if you SLI in the future you got some specialness going on.

only thing im questioning is why he got a liquid cooler and a locked proccessor. Its a waste of money if you buy a liquid cooler with a noin overclockable cpu.

I know, I did just because. It's unnecessary, I agree haha. Maybe I'll upgrade to an unclocked CPU sooner?

Hey man, great build. One question, how well does that GPU perform under heavy load? I'm wondering because I'm planning on building my first rig this summer, and can't decide on what GPU to get. Thanks for your time.

It does very well, playing 3 games at a time lately... streaming twitch, and watching the NBA playoffs all in high quality. Never gives me ANY problems.

I'm aware this build has been around for a while but 11/10 for GITS.

Hey sweet build man could you tell me what those monitors are like? I can get them for a really good price right now and am seriously considering it. Thanks

What do you think about those case fans? Are they pretty quiet? thinking about picking some of them up for an upcoming build.

Why Windows 8? Windows 7 Has Better Support for gaming. I am Just Curious as to why you picked windows 8.

I have a mod to replicate it as windows 7, and it doesn't affect me in any way that I can notice in a negative way. I don't deal with the slide windows or anything, it's awesome. Plus it lets me get the latest software in relation to gaming due to it being the latest OS. It looks like windows 7 to me though ;)

although I must mention to everyone, I had to return my GPU and my PSU from EVGA. My GPU had some type of object hitting the fan and making it hum, and my PSU was on recall for some type of defect on the heat plate. Horrible odds, or just poor production? I am unsure, but it was seriously upsetting. It also forced me to be without my GPU for a week or two.

Locked CPU with an h100i? :-(

  • 1 point

haha, yup. I know that it doesn't have much overclocking abilities but I did it for the aesthetics. I really like the way it looks, and it's easier than installing my own green liquid cooling system.

Unless you have a touch screen I find windows 8 pretty bad. But that is just my opinion.

I don't see the difference, I have a mod to make it appear like windows 7... But, it's the latest OS. Which does count for something, no matter how bad it is.
