Description

This is my first computer build, and I had been planning it for several months. I will be using this computer for mainly for gaming and some programming. Everything went together pretty well, my only complaint is the location of the CPU power port on the motherboard. If it had not been for that my cable management would be a lot better. I wish the motherboard had more fan headers, as I have 4 of my fans going straight into the Power supply, so they are a little louder than I expected. I may add a fan controller if I get fed up with it.

I got all the parts from Newegg, except the monitor. I already had a copy of Windows 8 and the Razer mouse.

I am pretty happy with everything, and it has been running great so far. I have ran GTA IV, Portal 2, Metro: Last Light, and Sniper Elite V2 at Max settings and am getting 60+ FPS. I get even better in World of Tanks and Mount & Blade: Warband. I have not tried out all of my games yet, so I will update if there are any problems.

I know the pictures aren't great, but all I had to take pictures with was my phone.

EDIT: Ordered some fan cable splitters, so disregard my complaint about the fan headers.

Thanks! My desk is kinda crowded right now. It was the only place big enough for that huge Lego.

What you could do for your fan issue is pick up a few fan splitter cables. Thats what i did and i currently have 6 fans hooked up to my board and they run nice and quiet. I would suggest these, i bought two and they work great though they are kind of short.

the gtx 760 is 10$ less and performs better im curious did you buy this before the 760 released?

Yeah. I didn't buy everything at once. I got the graphics card about a month ago. I would have waited for the 760 if I had known about it.

maxing out Portal 2 ain't that hard, but nonetheless glad to see everything else is performing fine. i would be very surprised if you ever ran into problems.

i'm curious about your choice of 16GB of RAM. you probably won't utilize much more than a quarter of that, unless you're doing video editing (suggeston: maybe install some of your favorite games to a RAM drive?)

how do you like the case? i was planning on using that case in my next big upgrade.

I was going to go with 8GB of RAM, but I just decided to go ahead and get 16. The case is awesome. Easy to install the components and plenty of mounting points for fans. Just make sure you get the Advanced version like I did. The regular version only comes with 1 exhaust fan.

it's fine if i don't get the Advanced; i was planning on replacing them with non-colored fans in the first place

Ah, then get the regular and save some money!

Are you using CUDA? If not I would have gone with the 7950.

I am not using it right now, but I will be later on as I get into more advanced programming.
