Description

I am upgrading this in order to prepare for a VR Headset later this year. I decided for that reason to hold off on upgrading the GPU for now. I am going to buy that when I get an Occulas... or Vive, whichever I decide on. But my CPU And Motherboard were getting very long in the tooth. NEW PSU (JAN 2017): Added the HX750i so I could clean up the cabling pictures incoming soon

NEW GPU (JULY 2016): I just ordered a EVGA SC 1070. It arrives this week. I will update again with photos and OC info after next weekend.

Parts I just added: i7-6700k - A little overkill for my specific uses, but I am hoping this lasts me at least 5 years. 16GB DDR4-2666 - this is what Microcenter had that matched my build (oh sweet vanity) Asus Z170-Pro Corsair H100i GTX

What was Replaced: Radeon HD 7770 - this did not belong in this build and I am so glad to have been able to upgrade! Asus P55 Motherboard 8GB DD3 1600MHz i5-650 @ Stock -I had been running at 4.2GHz for 3 or 4 yeas, then became unstable so I dropped it back to stock last year 120mm Closed Loop Cooler

What was there: Various SSDs purchased over the last 4 years 2TB drive for backups and media 300GB drive for slower games The case is nice it fits my needs well and has a Sata Backplane on the top so I can swap out drives for off site backup.

I know it is painful but I have plans. If you see above, I am upgrading the GPU in June-July when I am hopefully also going to get a VR headset. I only have so much discretionary spending at a time... damn grown up expenses.

Grab a new NVidia Pascal card. Apparently they should be amazing.

yeah either that or Polaris, which is why I am waiting anyway. I don't "Need" the performance until I have a VR headset so I might as well wait and see what the bleeding edge is when I get an HMD in hand and make a decision then.

It is with a Firmware change to some specific motherboards. The Firmware is supported by the Motherboard Manufacturer but not Intel. I don't know the exact process, but it is dependent on having a few specific boards. AsRock is one of the manufacturers that supports it. I considered doing this but opted for the i7 since I wasn't getting a GPU this go around anyway.

I know it makes me sad too, it is in the works. If anyone wants to donate something in the interim I would be glad to put it to good use. Lots of Traveling, a Wedding and Car Repairs have put a dent in my discretionary spending as of late.
