So after a little fiasco with Newegg's preferred shipping partner in my area OnTrac, I finally got this built. So OnTrac was given a simple task: deliver a motherboard and powersupply to my door. Now is that too much to ask?? Apparently so from the given driver on that day because it took them a week and a half to deliver it to the wrong door. Got in contact with the driver and gave him step by step instructions on how to get to my house. Claimed he couldn't find my house but somehow delivered it the next day to the wrong one. To make a long story short, luckily Newegg was quick about a refund and I made sure to file a complaint.

After selling my last build I decided to give the 280x a go. Since I'm a total cheapskate and hadn't bought BF4 yet, I decided to go with the XFX card because it not only looked great but was only one of two cards that came with BF4 at the time of purchase. I got almost everything on sale and ended up spending less than I though I would have to which is nice.

CPU: Got for a steal when the awesome Staples price match to Microcenter deal was happening (I'm nowhere near a microcenter). Was $160 after shipping. Would have gone with the 4770k for $200 but they were out of stock =(. Yes I know 1155 is now a dead socket but I plan on selling this build anyways so didn't really matter to me. Still an awesome chip.

CPU COOLER: Got for $55 after MIR. Great dual 120m thick rad. Cools very well and stays relatively quiet.

MOBO: Awesome mobo for an awesome price. Really loved the power and reset button on the mobo since I did a test bench before my case arrived.

RAM: BlackFriday Sale on Newegg for $52. Great price for 8 GB of Ram at the time and running 1866 at CL9.

HDD: Stores stuff. Isn't an SSD but I don't mind load times.

GPU: Seriously loving this thing. First off it is by far the sexiest card I have ever laid eyes on. The all black shroud is nice because I hate the look of heatpipes sticking out of cards. Thing overclocked better than I expected and managed 1150/1650 on it and the max temp only got up to 76 C. Stayed pretty quiet as well.

CASE: $50 was an absolute deal and a half on this case. Only complaint is the smoked window. Not really my style but I knew this coming into it.

PSU: Used in last build and had no issues what soever. I realize it is just an FSP rebrand but it's a tier 3 PSU and I got it for a great price. The cables are pretty high quality and the red PCI cables match my red ram.

I've had my fair share of troubles with OnTrac as well. I mean, has anyone even heard of them?

MrBeastshaw submitter 15 Builds 3 points 56 months ago

I sure hadn't until I started ordering stuff from Newegg. After some research apparently they deliver in some areas in unmarked vans.

cyanghost109 4 Builds 6 points 56 months ago

I wonder how much candy they carry with them. If I see one of their vans, I might snag some and run away.

white vans?

MrBeastshaw submitter 15 Builds 4 points 56 months ago

Yup. Literally like child molester vans.

all of those poor baby pc parts lol

I never heard of them either until Newegg. That said, they are the best shipping company where I live out of UPS and USPS. Fastest shipping and the earliest. Guess it depends where you live though. I live a house but maybe apartments are where issues occur.

Ontrac is actually Great in my area. I get my orders in less than 24 hrs from newegg without paying extra.

MrBeastshaw submitter 15 Builds 5 points 56 months ago

Yeah I guess it really does depend on the area you live in and who knows maybe they do a decent job in my area but my shipment just happened to be one of the ones they screwed up on.

AustinTheTimelord 3 points 56 months ago

I think is not so much the area you live in but the people that work at your local OnTrac.

MrBeastshaw submitter 15 Builds 4 points 56 months ago

That too. A great company's reputation can be destroyed by one bad employee.

AustinTheTimelord 3 points 56 months ago

That exactly what I think when I go through reviews on Amazon, NewEgg or Yelp even. Just because one product was defective or one waiter was an ******* it ruins a product/restaurants reputation.

Very nice build, especially for that price.

Happy gaming. :)

I'm guessing you got in on that micro center/ staples deal for the 3570k? Me too haha my build is pretty similar except for gpu which I'm hoping to upgrade earlier next year

Edit nvm I read your build before your description lol didn't see the description because I'm on my phone. I also kinda regret not going with 4770k for $200 though. I definitely had time to order before it went out of stock. I was still debating whether to buy next gen consoles or new pc. 3570k should last us couple years though.

MrBeastshaw submitter 15 Builds 1 point 56 months ago

Yeah the 3570k is still an awesome CPU I just wish I could have grabbed a 4770k when they were going for so cheap. You totally should have gotten a 4770k but what's done is done. Still got a great deal on the 3570k though =)

You made out like a bandit with all of those sales! Where'd you find that case for so cheap? And besides the tinted window, do you love it?

MrBeastshaw submitter 15 Builds 1 point 56 months ago

Newegg had it on sale twice for $50 starting November 27. It literally took like an hour both times for them to sell out. Yeah other than the tinted window I absolutely love it. I personally like the look of the R4 a bit more but this case definitely has some things that are lacking in the R4 such as the ability to fit a thick rad in the front with just slight shifting of the HDD cage on the bottom. The R4 can only fit slim rads in the front when you move the HDD cage. This case also fits radiators better in the top due to the larger grill which allows you to offset the radiator so you have a bit more access to the top of the mobo. Overall I really like this case and would be willing to pay more than $50 for it that's for sure.

The first time I've encountered an i5 cheaper than an FX...

Vainslay 1 Build 1 point 56 months ago

I cried too, I should have gotten this one instead of an 8320

They're both good by the way, just I'm a bit more towards Intel then AMD.

MrBeastshaw submitter 15 Builds 1 point 56 months ago

If the 8320 sale for $130 was going on when I bought the 3570k I would have gone with it instead. I did end up buying one anyways for the next build though lol. I'm so impulsive. On sale = buy now.

Tyl3r 2 points 56 months ago

That is a very sexy looking 280x, I must say.

srs922 1 Build 1 point 56 months ago

I'm might be getting that graphics card primarily because it comes with Battlefield 4. Question is how is it? +1 for the build by the way.

MrBeastshaw submitter 15 Builds 1 point 56 months ago

Awesome. I was able to achieve a very solid overclock with minimal tweaking and the card stays cool and relatively quiet. I personally love the look of it as well. Getting the BF4 code was pretty painless compared to what I've heard with other cards. Just go to XFX website and register the card then they'll send you a link with the code. Hope that helps :)
