Description

Built this for playing any game I want and doing VR eventually. Will also run few programs like microstation and autoCADD.

Games I play are Witcher 3/WoW/Rocket league currently. Also plan on video editing with this nice machine. For overclocking I just set cpu to 4.6 and the gpu to +100 MHz from its boost clock. Could probably push the gpu farther but I am happy where it is at now. Was this machine overkill? ofc silly.
Putting it together was pretty easy except wires were annoying to plug in because Noctua would get in the way but i have closed window and so I am happy I went with air cooling.
 - enjoy pics and I didnt want to pay cat tax but you can look at my husky play uno and look cute.
 - thanks to Buildapc for helping me pick parts and sorry for my bad grammar/spelling

I may have snagged one using SMS alerts from the site nowinstock.net. I say "may have" because it hasn't shipped yet, but they claim it will on Monday. The site sets up trackers for "hot" items and have trackers for both 1070 and 1080 cards. At this specific moment in time, they are showing four GTX 1080 cards in stock at three different sites (Newgg, Best Buy and Nvidia's online store).

If you do use that site and set up alerts for specific cards and sellers, make sure to turn on text alerts to your phone (unless you set up email alerts to your phone). I think they are off by default. In my case, by the time I looked at my email, the stock was long gone. On the one I did (possibly) get, the card was in stock for six minutes (according to the history that nowinstock keeps for each thing they are tracking).

My useless comment. On most builds I see, there is at least one part where I think, "I like most of this, but I would have used a blue widget instead of the red widget they used." While I might still pick a different part or two, there isn't one here that I wouldn't be happy with. I think it's because you didn't "go cheap" on any part. Likewise, nothing is crazy, expensive, way overkill either.

The only thing I thought is that I might go for the M.2 NVMe version of the Samsung SSD, but I would still use Samsung. The M.2s are still pretty pricey and almost in the crazy, expensive category, so going with the 850 is an understandable choice. I mean, really whether it boots in 25 seconds with an standard SSD or 10 seconds with M.2 NVMe, it's still booting wicked fast. (I'm around 20 seconds on a Samsung 840 EVO.) I might bump that to a 1TB drive with the 850 EVO series, but Samsung's still my favorite. It's also something easy to add to later.

Hello,

Did the GTX 1080 fit easily with the NH-D15? It looked like you removed the backplate of the GPU?

Don't know why this made me curious, but if you look at this youtube review at around 5:00 you'll see this model doesn't have a back plate to speak of. Many do, but not this one I guess. Kinda surprised me.

It easily fit, this 1080 just didn't have backplate. If you have windowed case would maybe get something else but if you have closed window it's great.

Hello christian, I'm about to do the same exact build as yours , here is my question, how well did the ram fit ? I heard bad things about it and I just wanted to know if you had any problem with the ram management with the Noctua. Can you fit all 4 ram slots without the Noctua blocking or touching ?

Hope you I get a answer fast since im about to preorder all that next week. + a close up picture will be awesome.

Thanks and nice build

Using 2 fans the fan above the ram I had to put just a little bit higher than the other but wasn't to hard. Although the fan did make it a bit hard to get my hand past to plug in wires :p

I have the same GPU on order. Is the card ok? Should I proceed? Kinda bugs me it doesn't have any MSI logo on the side of it when you place it in the PCI-E slot :-\

I just got it because it was in stock and I really wanted a 1080. It's pretty quiet and runs everything how I wanted but if I were you I would maybe get a gigabyte card. If there aren't any gigabyte ones then this card is nice( if you have a closed window) if you have a window you might want a card with a backplate. But no complaints and I have no regrets
