Description

I use this computer for gaming, and it runs everything I throw at it with ease on maximum settings at 60FPS. I originally had a 500W Corsair power supply, but after a while my computer wouldn't turn on and I came to the conclusion that 500W wasn't enough for this build. I've had no problem ever since I switched to my 850W power supply. I gave my build her name just at the time of uploading this. I was thinking about a name for a while, and when I had to type in a name for my build, I noticed the colors of the case were similar to that of Dark Samus from the Metroid Prime series.

500W should have been plenty. even if you had 2 GPUs, you would have been in the clear. It mustve been a faulty part.

Never hurts to have more

It won't be that much more, and it is certainly a small price to pay for having more headroom for overclocking and better hardware, even if it doesn't use that much power.

Agreed, people always prefer to be safe than sorry. Also people don't want to change their PSU every time they upgrade a part, more people use "overkill" power supplies than "just enough" power supplies

I have a 750w psu and my power bill usually stays around the same, our electric bill is usually less than 100 dollars in the winter and a little above that in the Summer. Having a large psu doesn't not increase your power bill unless you leave your lights on every day and don't turn the off

yes like what ledozo said, 500w should have been more than enough. You should get a refund for it while you can.

What happens if he wants to upgrade or sli?

It's good, if one day he wants to add a second or a 3rd GTX 970, he will need to upgrade a previously downgraded power suply...

How is the Chaser A31 I was originally going to use that case but switched to the Commander G42.

I like it. It's pretty, and was big enough to house all of the parts.

500W should have worked fine. Why a Z97 MB with a locked processor?

That leaves little to no room for upgradeablilty one of the main things people want in a pc

the difference between an locked and unlocked is like $10-20. I'd just go with an unlocked to start.

I just went with the processor that was recommended to me. It works fine.

Ikr lol. Why would you get that 970, the cooling on that card isn't so good.

I had no idea that the cooling wasn't good. All I knew was that a 970 was a good card. I haven't had any heat issues anyway.

It's not that bad but it's a reference card. Reference cards have the worst cooling but you shouldn't have any problems with it though .

If I remember correctly, the 970 had a vram issue where after 3.5 of it's memory usage performance lagged severely depending on what games you play.

It's really only a problem if you play if a resolution higher than 1080p, from what I've read.
