Description

This was built to replace a 3500+ with 7800GTX to catch up to DX11 and Win7.

Re-used most parts, replaced guts (MB/Mem/CPU/GPU) with best deals Microcenter had to offer. Cable management sucks so I really need to find something to clean that up.

Combo AMD CPU/MB (as listed, saved $40) HIS 7790 (because the specs were good enough for now) Dell Monitor is crisp with great refresh

Plays Bioshock 2 and FarCry 2 on max for my kid.

Need to run benchmarks to see how well we did.

Wow really nice budget build. Did you take a look at the 6800k cpu from amd? You might have gotten similar performance without having to buy a a gpu, for the same price of the cpu you bought. Still an insane value you got for $500

No way the apu would have given comparable performance cpu or gpu wise...apu for extreme budget builds only in my opinion....if you can afford a discrete gpu then its best to do it that way

ok I wasn't sure, I heard it gives pretty good gaming performance for light gaming.

From what ive read about it, its the best integrated graphics you can get but im pretty sure even a 7750 gives you better graphics performance than an APU

I checked all the benchmarks for the graphics classes before settling on the 7790. I couldn't justify a 50-75% cost difference for 8-15% performance gain on 78xx. APUs did not factor for hires gaming but could have lowered my price.

nice budget rig. its crazy what you can do on a budget, and gives a kick in the face to everyone who says gaming pc's are too expensive

Thanks; it was a good thing I just had to replace the main parts to make this work. I also just noticed that I came close to the "Cheap Desktop Computer Battle" AM3 rig that Maximumpc just built. But I like mine better :) Luckily my local retailer had awesome deals too good to pass up (sorry Newegg).
