Description

This is actually my first build ever coming from a laptop. I used to own an alienware m17x R3 until the GPU died out on me 4 months ago. I decided to just build a new PC instead buying a new laptop. It got me confused a bit when researching for Pc parts. Pcpartpicker helped me a lot especially the 1400k black Friday build video they posted in youtube.

All in all the build went smoothly except for some minor issues which was expected. I first went to use the EVo 212 as my cpu cooler but was not satisfied with the temperature it's giving me when overclocking. I switched to Cryorig R1 after extensive researching. And the pretty looking beast did not disappoint!!! Worth every dollar I spent with it.

I actually also looked at the Noctua Ndh15 but I cannot swallow the aesthetic :( I researched also the close loop liquid coolers but decided not to pull the trigger. I felt like it would make my case look like a barren waste land.lol

I purchased the evga 550W at first but quickly realized that it might not be enough since am using a power hungry AMD card (they all are!). I opted to buy the 750W instead.

I bought some additional fans too for my case. Here is my fan (all phanteks fans) set up now:

1x140mm rear exhaust 1x200mm top exhaust ( I had to zip ties to lock it in because the fan screw won't fit on the screw hole) 2x140mm front intake

Am still debating whether I should put additional fan at bottom as intake. The PSU shroud will be blocking it in case I put one in.

I will extensively used my machine for gaming (specifically starcraft 2).

Feel free to comment guys!:)

Nice build! The cooler looks really awesome. What LED strip did you use? I'm thinking about getting a few purple strips for my case.

I used the Logysis LDXRM12C. I bought it from amazon. Pretty good led lights with lots of functionality.

Nice build! I like the entire air cooling situation. How's the temperature and noise of that 290x?

The noise is fine. The fans only speed up on gaming and the noise is tolerable. Regarding temperature, I never goes above 70 when gaming.

Have you found any difference in gaming when the i5 is overclocked?

I play mostly starcraft 2 and it is very cpu demanding. I definitely see a difference in performance when my i5 is overclocked. i run it all day to 4.5ghz from stock 3.5ghz. The R1 is more than capable of dissipating the heat from that overclocked. I can push it to 4.8ghz but I don't think .3ghz gain is worth it.

That is a really nice and sleek build. Congrats! I am now deciding on the GPU myself and the XFX r9 290x 8gb is really attracting me... but do you know which kind of memory it is equipped with? Is is Elpida or Hynix Memory? And may I ask which is the monitor you are gaming on? Just for curiosity this time...:)
