Description

Upgraded my PC for the launch of GTA V - this was completed in January 2015, only just put pictures up now

My friends brother sold me his old CoolerMaster case for £20, which needed cleaning after 2+ years of use. The case should of had a normal door without the window, he purchased a black side with the window but never sprayed this - so this was my first job on the list after, followed by cleaning the case of dust and making use of the 3 fans in the case.

I spent about 12 months from getting the case to completing the build, I was on a monthly budget saving up for this and wanted it completed by January 2015 for GTA V, other games too but this was my goal.

I liked the idea of putting money away every month and spending a few hours each month sleeving cables or fitting small parts to the build like DVD drive, hard drives and fan controller.

I also changed my mind a lot during this time. I went from wanting an i7 CPU to and i5, then wanting 2 dvd drives to only one. I wanted a blue-ray drive but I don't have any as I stream all my movies, so there was no point.

I like having a project like this on the go - as in my room I have built in wardrobe there is space to store a PC case for me to work on when I have time, and not get dirty at the same time. Nice to have a side project like this to work on at times too.

I also purchased a replacement Standard USB Front Card from Cooler Master in Holland, this replacement card is now USB 3.0 as the previous version was only 2.0.

2 things. Your front case fan is set up as exhaust. Flip it around. Your PSU is very poor quality and I'd replace it ASAP. Otherwise it looks good. I like how you hung the blue LED fan like that.

Cheers dude! Will do the fan this weekend, thanks for that.

I know it's a budget PSU but I've not had any problems with it so far - I might replace it later this year if I can find a nice white modular PSU :)

I would make it a priority. The PSU is by far the most important part of a PC and is the LAST place to EVER cheap out. A bad unit can easily damage your PC.

Why not spray paint a usual modular PSU white? I have the same PSU as you (and the same speakers :D), used it for 1.5 years no problems either, like your system mine is very low on the power consumption. Having said that, tiny_voices is a legend over at Tom's and I'd follow his advice.

Cheers for the advice guys. Will have a think over the weekend - my PSU has been fine so far but shame as not many reviews on the model by other users online.

I originally wanted the Fractal Design one, but it was £140. Be cheaper to buy Corsair CX model and respray it white

Even then, get an XFX, they are generally around the same price but are of superior quality to the CX series :)

Yeah I wanted that one originally, but £140 was more than I wanted to spend at the time. Might be an idea to get this soon to replace it

Yeah, if your PSU fails, it won't just die itself. It might take something else with it, like your GPU or mobo. Hard to replace those.

How does your wireless network adapter work? I'm in desperate need of a new one.

How loud is the GPU? Many people say that this card runs quite loud, but others claim that EVGA fixed this issue

Not loud at all - I've not had any issues with the noise at all

In future, I might avoid white cases though... Harder to find white PSU's, components and drives for that match colours - unless you want to spray them yourself.

But the white/blue do go well together
