Description

As a tech enthusiast I always wanted to build a pc but never thought it was something I could afford or just plain do. After getting my first engineering job I decided to go for it and made "The Red Box". I wanted to make a mini itx for simplicity sake. I wanted it to be small but powerful and play 1080p with ease and 1440p on select titles. So I went with the Thermaltake Core V1 as my case which fits the simple aspect. Then went with an i7 6700k and the RX 480 for the power. I then powder-coated the front mesh and side panels white and red respectfully to give it a one of a kind look.

After completing the build I've got not even the slightest bit of buyers remorse and this will definitely not be my last build. I'm always up for suggestions so please leave any suggestions in the comments.

Nice build. What was the case like to work in and paint?

It's a real tight fit especially if you have big hands. But the build quality is amazing so nothing a little time and dedication. For painting I luckily have access to an oven for curing so painting was a breeze. Removing the mesh and glass was a bit difficult but nothing a pair of pliers wouldn't solve.

I didn't find it all that hard to work in, but I didn't use an AIO cooler either so maybe that's the difference.

Like the case color.

Thanks! I went with flat colors to make it less flashy on the outside. I'll probably add some LEDs to show off the inside.

It was my first choice but too big for what I wanted. But definitely a solid choice.

How's that rx 480 doing you? Nice build by the way

Thanks! It's doing great. I'm gonna start over clocking today because I'm not too happy with the small stuttering on ultra. But that's because I'm picky. At high it runs everything smoother than smooth. Would definitely recommend for that sick price to performance ratio.

It fits in that case alright? I'm guessing it extends out the front panel. I have the same case and a very similar build and am picking up a 480 today.

Nope stays inside. I originally bought the Coolermaster Elite 110 but in fear that it wouldn't fit I got this guy. It doesn't extend out whatsoever.

Nice! Very good news, that means that blower will have nothing in the way to push air out. How's the OC'ing going? What sort of temps are you running? I'm being told from a number of places that 1350mhz seems to be the cap, but I've also seen OC's that go well beyond

I got it 1260 mhz and to sustain anything higher had to push the rpms to close to 4000 which was so loud it wasn't even worth it it. I don't think I'm approaching it right so I have to work on it some more. My board is made for over clocking so I gotta see what I can do. When you get yours and get a stable clock think of me I'm always up for suggestions.

Been reading that the reference is pretty damn loud. How do you find it while under load?

Anything close to 3000 rpm is a freaking jet engine. I'd definitely wait for after market cards.

Hey just curious where did you buy your ram, wd blue, and the i7.. great deals!

The i7 and ram I got at micro center. If you buy a processor and ram together they'd bring it down to 42. The i7 is always at that price it's insane.. and the HDD I got at amazon on a flash open box deal they had. Great find if you ask me but I guess I'll have to see if it holds up.

idk what you're talking bout that looks great! I personally don't trust air coolers, since I already have four fans in my case, but you can't argue they work. Keep it up dude this was my first build and if you really want it to turn out awesome it will.

I'd replace that power supply before someone tells you to replace the power supply... JK, it's an awesome and unique build! +1 from me!

Seriously, though. I've been waiting to see a CX PSU build so I could tell them to replace it before someone tells them to replace it. Thank you for the opportunity :)

how did u paint the cover of the case with the logo.I am thinking about doing a similar design also what kinda spray paint did u use.

  • 1 point

I powder coated it. The design is kept on there with some type of adhesive so if you pull hard enough it'll come off. Keep it clean and it'll stick back on no problem.

Same case, cpu and video card owner here, how do you like the cooling you went with?

  • 2 points

My cooling is sufficient. Keeps my cpu at a low 32 C. I'm sure sticking out the extra 30 for a H100i wouldve been better but I'm content.
