Description

Wow! Just wow! Never in my wildest dream that I'd ever imagine being featured here. I'm just an ordinary Joe. What an honor guys thank you so much for adding my build as a featured build. As with all the other beautiful and monstrous rigs that are also posted here, again you have all inspired me. =D

So hello my fellow PCPARTPICKER! Purpose for this build is to be used for gaming, streaming and photo editing from time to time. First and foremost this build was nothing but a vision ever since my laptop gave up on me. Since then I've been browsing and have admired many of your builds.

I have finally accomplished a build of my own, which was solely inspired by everyone here who posted their own build. You may also wonder why it was titled ( Vision of a Lion ). Well It was built in August ( Star sign LEO ) and the vision is PCpartpicker was where most of the ideas came from.

The real highlight for me was the joy of building this Rig. It was an amazing high when I had all the parts completed. I just couldn't stop thinking about it and after having many cups of coffee BAM! she was done. All those countless hours of research just to look for parts while trying to get the best deals was definitely worth It. Boy was it fun! I've learned a lot through the building process and had some ups and downs during the assembly. I wanna thank some friends who came to pick up their phones and answered questions regarding the build, even at late night.

Overall going through this experience, I guess now I can be much more prepared for my next future build. So Game on!

P.s will appreciate any feedback that you guys provide. Thanks again. :)

I will be posting more information as per the OC and clock rate. I haven't had the time yet to fully test out the system. Parts review will be added as followed once I go through the system and take it for a a good spin.

Update: Overclocked CPU to 4.5ghz with 1.3v she was great. I have also pushed it to 4.6ghz with 1.32v which was also stable. However when I ran the stress test 6 hours straightit was for the 4.5ghz with 1.3v which gave me excellent solid results. No drops and it was very stable, so for now I'll just stick to 4.5ghz.

I'm slowly getting techniques on how to overclock the GPU. One of the first tries that I did was using the standard OC setting in Asus Tweak 2 just to try it out. I then ran a benchmark on Time Spy with a score of 5744. Seems alright. Although I won't be pushing any further overclock until I need. Games I'm playing atm are hardly needing any juice and which can be played even in stock format.

Part Reviews

CPU

Solid and does not compromise with the performance. i5-6600K definitely was enough for my build. Glad I managed to buy this combo with the motherboard which saved me heaps.

CPU Cooler

Big and Quiet! Amazing aesthetics. Matter of preference for me was that I'm more into air cooling. Overall I was not disappointed with the performance. It keeps my CPU cool at all times.

Motherboard

5 Way optimization. As JJ from Asus would quote it. Great value for money and definitely does what it intends. Be sure to keep everything updated in the bios to further have your system nice and healthy.

Memory

I was originally going to purchase GEIL superluce with the white LED. But I instead changed to this as it was newer and found that this was much more solid in terms of overclock and stability. Never had an issue with this and I'm glad I made the jump the purchase it so it suits my build.

Storage

Very useful! Got it on sale which helped a lot. I use it just to boot windows and it's amazing.

Storage

Got this on sale too. This thing is fast. I Currently use it to stock games files. Does what it says and performs great. :)

Video Card

This thing is amazing and the power is unreal. I have the OC Edition, however I was going to shoot for the 1080 but this thing caught my eye, after reviews and benchmark test that I've watched from other users. It comes handy with a free license for 1 year of Xsplit if you're a streamer. (Might be good) also this is one of the few gpu's that can actually handle it self when it comes to independent cooling. I'm happy with the performance for sure.

Case

I love the case no doubt! This by far was the first thing that I looked into and chose for my build before anything else.

Pros: Silent with a very clean look. You are also given a lot of options and headroom when it comes to building and changing things within the build. The cable management was very easy to deal with even for first time builders. You are able to hook up and place different placements as to when you want to run your cables.

Cons: First thing the top vent when you are able to add a 140mm fan then you are given a few mill gap on the side. That overall didn't side well with me. I initially wanted at least for that to be covered so dust wouldn't have been an issue. Luckily Demcifilter made actual filters for this case.

Another thing is the side panel window. Jesus! The case looks amazing but I never understood why they cheaped out on the window panel. You can hardly see the back end of your gpu if you didn't look close enough. Overall aesthetically this is one of the downers to the r5 as it won't really show of the merchandise inside the case. But I still love it no doubt! :)

Power Supply

I love this PSU. It was right for my RIG! However I did come across a few issues with my build which delayed it for almost a week. I had to RMA my first PSU which I sent back as it was DOA. I got worried to the point that it could have affected some of the components that I've already placed in. Luckily though just after a few days I managed to get a new one and she was all up and running. This PSU was the major delay in my build and I had to pay a return shipment just to RMA.

Monitor

Solid. Does what it says. Don't ever get put off because someone said it's a TN Panel, This thing will blow your mind if you get it set up correctly in conjunction with your system. Only thing to add is the factory setting which blows as deep sleep is enabled. (Should be disabled as it's causing delays for users to setup their monitor for the first time.) Overall No dead pixel and it has by far a really nice stand as it's not gloss and easy to set up!

OwSo101 2 points 12 months ago

Just a quick suggestion you should get colored lighting it would make the build perfect! :D

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Definitely will man. Thanks for the suggestion. :) I'll save up a bit first or wait for a big sale to come by so I can spruce it up even more.

Matthewtina2015 1 Build 4 points 12 months ago

I'd recommend the NZXT Hue+

elias.boehmer 1 point 12 months ago

same;)

p.s. you nearly finished with your build?

philphaser 11 Builds 2 points 12 months ago

What the...i don't get it! What happend to your PSU? Did you custom paint it? What about the logo on top?

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 4 points 12 months ago

Hi bud, I ordered and used heat resistant carbon fiber sheet from Japan and wrapped it. After I went online to modders to order some original custom corsair stickers to place on top of the PSU to give it that aesthetic look so it matches the build further. Although I had thoughts at first to paint it but found that the carbon fiber wrap is cleaner and will protect the PSU since its heat resistant and scratch proof.

philphaser 11 Builds 2 points 12 months ago

Awesome! Done good, just like with the rest of the build!

thisunami 2 points 12 months ago

where did you get that GPU bracket?

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 3 points 12 months ago

Check out Bill Owen's site at http://mnpctech.com and look for your specified Gpu bracket whether it's referenced or non referenced. I ordered mine through Bill and the guys there are really helpful. I custom painted mine white once I recieved it. I also ordered the original strix sticker to add on to the bracket to fit the build.

MikeWantsPCs 1 point 10 months ago

I feel like doing that also, but i'd feel like I copied you. But it's okay if it's looking good right:D ?

FHD32423 2 points 12 months ago

A featured build with only 15 upvotes, that's rare.

You have my +1.
& Congrats on the feature.

EDIT:Also, thanks for uploading this on my birthday :)

manirelli staff 8 Builds 5 points 12 months ago

I generally don't take into account the current votes on a build. Sometimes really good builds have just been posted when I swap over to the next featured build.

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Appreciate it bro and Happy birthday! Hope you have a good one. :)

NoobBuilder01 2 Builds 2 points 12 months ago

Congrats on the feature man! Love the effort you put into getting great photos. +1 I have to ask this though, did you manage to stick to a budget or did you go overboard?

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Thanks man! I believe I went just over the budget but not by a lot. I was suppose to purchase the crucial ddr4 ram which was cheaper but couldn't resist the aesthetics of the current ones I have. Further more I believe I would have spent more had not for the amazon prime day, Since some of the bulk purchase I've made there helped with the budgeting.

The lighting in that 1st photo is spectacular. Nice work.

Thanks man really appreciate the kind words. All credits to my wife as she was the one who took those photos.

BattleDor 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Am I the only one questioning why the CSGO fps thing was in the menu I get like 900 fps while in the menu........... Nice build dude!

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Cheers man. :) Btw now that you mentioned it. That was uploaded along with all the other photos. Sorry couldn't keep up with all the photos and just uploaded them all. As per the fps that was just in the first start up with no tweaks and I didn't have any proper drivers installed then as I was still troubleshooting. ( Windows 10 update etc.. )

BattleDor 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Oh that makes more sense!

Geebelele 1 point 12 months ago

You cant get more than 300fps without tweaks

BattleDor 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Ya I get like 400 in game

Games4Days 2 points 12 months ago

good build give you points for taking pictures for all the parts and the 27" monitor its not too big and not too small so I give 8/10 and the cables management is great so great job :)

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Thanks man appreciate it. = ) Earlier on the build I had thoughts of adding a vesa mount to dual monitor but due to the space issue I held off and went with the 144hz 27inch dell for overall quality.

Games4Days 2 points 12 months ago

its a awesome build what do you think of mine http://pcpartpicker.com/list/D2FRvV

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Woah dude that's a beast! Very nice I say. If you're gonna use that for gaming no worries. Heck video and photo editing wouldn't be an issue that's for sure, especially with the amount of storage that you have. =D

Games4Days 2 points 12 months ago

thanks for the best review for it Love you man your a awesome dude =D and your build is a beast too.

Games4Days 2 points 12 months ago

I have three Acer Predator XB271HK bmiprz 27-inch IPS UHD (3840 x 2160) NVIDIA G-Sync Widescreen Display (2 x 2w speakers, 4- USB 3.0 Ports, HDMI & Display Port) monitors with the beast Pc and with the beast speakers JBL Pulse Wireless Speaker, Black

Games4Days 2 points 12 months ago

and this was the mount I wanted Monoprice Triple Monitor Free Standing Desk Mount 15" - 30" (113816)

Games4Days 1 point 12 months ago

got it on amazon for like 115.00 dollars not bad price for it

Bighomy 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Good stuff man!! I have the same monitor and i love it. I also like the gpu sag fixer thingy you got there. I need to get brackets that can do sli! +1

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Thanks fam appreciate it! Yeah definitely this monitor rocks also good value for your cash. Btw if you're in need of brackets for your sli I believe Bill at mnpctech has just recently released the (DUEL CROSSFIRE SLI GPU Support Brackets, PAIR) which would support both your cards from sag. I've just checked the price and it's only $49.99 but currently out of stock. It would pay though to contact mnpctech for when they restock so you can reserve yours. They also deliver really fast and have good service.

Check it out bro if you're keen. Also comes non painted so you can custom it color to match your build. :) http://mnpctech.com/gpu-support-bracket/duel-crossfire-sli-gpu-support-arm-pair.html

Bighomy 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

I saw those on there.. i made an account and i asked them to notify me when more came in. It just amazes me how heavy these cards are... i have 2 Asus Strix 980 Ti's. I posted my build on here.

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Oh man your rig is a beast! Nice one. Yeah the sag can be a bit of a downer with the big gpu. Just imagine the zotac amp extreme gpu sli that without bracket or support now that would weigh a ton. I hope Bill restock soon so you can get your bracket. Good luck bud. :)

Bighomy 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Thank you! I just checked the webiste and the brackets are now $70! They went up $20 from yesterday.... and still outta stock.

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Oh man I just noticed that today too when I checked the site again. Anyway try and send them an email about your purchase enquiry and just mention that you had that quoted $49.99 price before the price update. (Never know..) They have great customer service there so it won't hurt to try. Also they might throw in free shipping if you're in the U.S. =D

ians907 4 Builds 2 points 12 months ago

Great build but why skimp on the keyboard when you went all out on everything else?

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Cheers man. I ended going with cheaper keyboard as I had to put some of the budget into purchasing the desk. Although I was actually suprised with the quality on this keyboard it also has a nice feel to it when gaming specially for fps. Probably my future upgrade would be to get the Corsair STRAFE Cherry MX Red Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. :)

jesus christ i'm wincing so bad rn

edit: and nice build ofc

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

I definitely agree lol! My bad man that was just thrown in there as per the bulk upload and I wasn't still familiar with how to organize photos on the site.

Hey man Awesome build! You and I have the same idea it seems when it comes on to some of the parts and overall colour scheme of the build! I'm glad I see yours as now it gives me more confidence that the one I've been planning for so long now will turn out quite well!

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Thanks bro. I felt the same way for many of the other builds before building this one. I kept looking and had a good look at other builds before I went ahead with mine to give me an idea. Good luck on your build man and I hope you get the best deals in purchasing the parts and prices. Let me know when you get it together. Cheers! =)

Donnel 2 points 12 months ago

Thanks bro! And I most definitely will! Just give me a few months first xD.

frank_hnd 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

I couldn't find the strix version of the GPU support bracket you have on the link you provided, could you send me a direct link?

We need an NSFW tag...

Truly amazing work man, I know the feeling to finally step back and see your baby, finally finished. For a first build, heck even for a seasoned builder, I really appreciate the little details. The thumbscrews (either bought anodized blue or painted I'm guessing), and the gpu brace look amazing, and make this bad boy stand out. Good job on the Vinyl wrap too, looks stock :), which is incredibly good.

Well deserved feature dude, and well deserving of a +1 as well!

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Thank you my brother. I appreaciate the kind words. :) I had thoughts of purchasing thumbscrews, but instead I painted my stock with automotive sports paint which is from Japan. Same with all the white parts in the Rig including the bracket I got from Bill through mnpctech. What a joy it was! =D

IMSOLOST420 2 points 12 months ago

Damn this is my exact build in building. Good stuff. Where did u get the white strix plate? Build looks awesome. Good stuff.

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Awesome bro glad to hear! Got the strix plate from mnpctech.com it's a non referenced bracket. I just modded mine to suit the build. :)

soldier5637 5 Builds 2 points 12 months ago

My favorite part is the "CPU Stand! Keeps CPU off floor!" But.. Wh... Whats your CPU doing on the floor, man..? Gotta love Chinglish. Great build.

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Cheers mate! lol glad you had fun with it. =)

SerPhil 2 points 12 months ago

Great design, love the build! I'm curious as to why you went to air cooling vs water cooling.

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Thank you my friend. I went with air cooling just for personal preference. I also thought that the cooler carried some of the aesthetics to go well with the build. However water cooling is also great no doubt. I might look into changing in the future. :)

WirelessCables 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

I was going to make a computer joke, but NVMe...

WirelessCables 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Very nice build, by the way. +1

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

If that joke was an operating system, it would process as top priority.. (Sneaky one liners had me.) lol Anyway cheers! glad u liked the build. =D

WirelessCables 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Thanks!

tamnhucanh 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Why does the mobo have chinese on it XD

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Hi bud. It's Japanese. I purchased the mobo with the cpu as combo here in a Japanese store. (Currently based here as expat.) =)

Neverhadone 2 points 12 months ago

This is an amazing build! Its very similar to the one I am Building. I really hope mine comes out just as beautiful!!!

samwich64 1 point 12 months ago

Great looking build! The white plays really nice with the case and make for a clean looking build. I enjoyed looking through all the pictures you took. Excellent cable management.

lunaquin 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Ah! I see what you meant about ours being similar! Very nice! Congrats on the feature build :)

Love the look of the gpu bracket, I've wanted to get one!

CalebN. 1 point 12 months ago

Great Build. Where can I get that wallpaper?

degreased 1 point 10 months ago

Amazing build man!

I'm guessing you got the mobo cpu combo in Aki, Sofmap is my bet.

Where did you purchase the LED strips by the way? Also in Akihabara? :D

Sinan.pasic2 1 point 10 months ago

That moment when you have OCD about the angle of the CPU cooler ;-;

Frabaki1 1 point 10 months ago

Did you need fan splitters with this motherboard?

rclark 1 point 9 months ago

Just wondering do you get any gpu sagging with that card and mobo? If you did what did you do to fix it?

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

Haven't gotten any gpu sagging as I usually check it from time to time using a level to see if it has dipped. However the GPU support has helped big time and have had no problems.

William.Gonzales 1 point 7 months ago

Hey, is your 1070 getting you the 144FPS needed for your 144hz at 1440p? All the research I've done shows that 1070 is for 1080p 144hz/1440p 60hz, and a 1080 was for 1440p 144hz/4K

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

Hi there. Everything with my monitor and GPU is running at full max. I have made a lot of changes to it since then like calibrating the colors on the monitors and making sure settings is always set to 144hz 1440p. With this in mind you won't be able to get the full optimization on 4k with 144hz as the TN panel is not fully capable of it in gaming anyway.

ekcoseb 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

How quiet is the finished build? I'm thinking of building something very similar to this, however I'm a bit worried about overall noise.

lipan02 submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

Very quiet build as the case itself has made a huge difference in reducing the fan noise. Overall the fans that I have chosen on this build has also helped. I have the Rig running 24/7 and can hardly hear the fans running even in a quiet room.

Keyboard is Redragon K552 KUMARA LED Backlit Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. It has custom mechanical keys ( Cherry Green equivalent. ) Got this one on sale but you can purchase it through amazon for $40 which is decent as the quality is also good on this one. I've added WASD fps gaming keys and dampers for better use. It's great for fps games.

Cheers! Yeah me too man.. It's ashame that fractal didn't thought of that when configured the window. I guess the big ups on this case is it's solid and silent even wih all the fans rev'd up.
