Description

I built this PC primarily for gaming, as a replacement for my Alienware x51 R2 which was unable to keep up to the games I wished to play such as Gta V, Rust and Payday 2. This PC has been planned for over 6 months and has had its part list completely changed multiple times. The reason it took so long was due to the wait for AMD's Ryzen Cpu line up. I was previously going to build using the i5 7600k but when I saw that the Ryzen 5 1600 and 1600x had 2 extra cores and 3 times as many threads I thought it was too good to be true and I have not been let down. The rest of the build came together quickly and I decided to attempt a white theme. Overall the PC was great fun to plan and build but it didn't come together 100% perfectly due to some mistakes in Msi's B350 Tomahawk Arctic's manual showing headers in the wrong places such as the HD Audio for my case.

Thanks for reading and thanks to all the mods and everyone on Toms Hardware and PC Part Picker forums

Part Reviews

CPU

An amazing value cpu with a 95 watt tdp to allow a more stable overclock than its non X variant

CPU Cooler

Kept my 1600x cool under load and has a white top keeping with my build's aesthetic. Fits the s340 Elite with about 1mm of a gap from the tower to the glass.

Motherboard

Great design which suited my theme and was packed with all the essential features and even an RGB header with white back lighting around the board's edges. The rating would be higher if only they got the diagrams in their manual right, mine stated that the HD audio header was in the location of the cmos battery and no where it was at the bottom of the board. This was very confusing and I spent a lot of time trying to solve this problem.

Memory

Standard 3200 mhz Ram with some cool leds, with a ryzen 1600x I was unable to reach 3200 mhz however I don't believe it is the memory's fault.

Storage

Extremely fast SSD and an enormous upgrade from older mechanical drives.

Video Card

The RX 480 is a budget power house and its white shell matched my build's theme. 4 star rating is due to the card being quite noisy under load.

Case

Beautiful mid tower case with lots of io and cable tie mounting points to aid cable management.

Power Supply

No issues so far, it is not too loud and has an eco mode if that is an issue, comes with plenty of cables to cover every type of build and is 80+ gold certified.

Operating System

Windows 10 pro...

Case Fan

The fan is slightly noisier than I would have hoped for but it's beautiful white led ring makes up for that.

Other

The cable look fantastic and the kit even supplies cable combs which is what brought me to the kit as they can often be overpriced if bought separately.

Other

Using with Msi Mystic light and works perfect except for the yellow appearing lime green.

So if you were me right now, would you buy this motherboard?

I would recommend it as long as you take the HD Audio issue into consideration yes, however I, despite updates, still cannot overclock my ram over 2133mhz however i believe this is due to my ram having poor timings but I'm not sure.
