Description

This build is a collection of various parts I got for good deals and free. The CPU was bought for twenty bucks (F****** steal), Cooler was free with it and mobo was saved from recycling center. RAM was bought for 15 dollars from a friend who was upgrading, as was HDD. GPU I got for free! A friend gave it to me as thanks for helping him build his PC. Case and PSU were from an old prebuilt. All in all, a solid and fast 1080p gaming machine. For 48 bucks!

I'll add more to the description soon, as well as pictures that are more than four pixels by four pixels.

PLEASE COMMENT WHAT YOU THINK! This is one website where I'm not afraid to say that since the community is actually friendly.

Update: Benchmark- http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/4142338

THIS IS THE FASTEST HD 7950 IN THE WORLD.

1202 MHz Core and 1564 MHz Memory, at 1300mV and +15% power limit.

Part Reviews

CPU

An oldie but a damn goodie. Blazing fast for what I need!

CPU Cooler

Hot and noisy. It doesn't keep the temperature where I would like it to, and under heavy rendering loads gets up to 80-90C. (i7-3770K)

Motherboard

Solid mobo, I haven't had any problems with it. Increased my opinion of Gigabyte for sure!

Memory

Does its job, but is fairly slow at 1.3GHz.

Video Card

LOVE this GPU. Fast for what I need, and has overclocked like a dream while staying quiet and cool (With a custom fan curve set in Afterburner)! 65-90FPS in Saints Row: The Third, 140+FPS in Far Cry 2, 90 FPS In Skyrim, 60FPS on Assassins Creed III with anti-aliasing turned down a bit, 60FPS Civ V, 60FPS Rocket League, 60FPS Just Cause 2, 60FPS Borderlands 2, all ultra settings 1920x1080.

Edit: This GPU is better than I initially thought. I really won the silicon lottery with it. It is overclocked beyond the official limits on both core and memory, 1100/1450+, completely stable and ran at about 61C while maintaining 60FPS on WWE 2K17 at high settings.

Case

Great airflow and a fan directly on my GPU. Looks alright, feels cheap. Cable management is nonexistent, and when paired with a non-modular PSU it's a nightmare.

+1 on the name

Thanks haha

WirelessCables 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Sure

WirelessCables 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

Did you go to Freegeek or something for that i7? Seriously, tell me now. And what prebuilt was the case from?

For the cooler, something like the Cryorig H7 should help your thermals immensely. It's only ~$35 and looks quite nice.

Maybe a EVGA power supply after that? 80+ Bronze ones are cheap.

pj_sz submitter 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

A friend of mine was upgrading to a new CPU and sold it to me for cheap. As for the CPU cooler, I've been looking at the H7, have it in a lot of my partlists. May upgrade to it!

WirelessCables 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Tell me when your friend is upgrading again, ok? ;-)

pj_sz submitter 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Sure thing! Considering he bought two 1080's and a 6900K...I don't think that will be for awhile.

WirelessCables 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Cool! Maybe for $35.00?

WirelessCables 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I wish I had friends who also had their own PCs so that we could switch / lend parts to each other..

Reanimate 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

It's amazing you built this PC and only spent $48! Major props!

pj_sz submitter 2 Builds 2 points 14 months ago

Thanks mate, it's a great upgrade from what I had. Glad you liked it!

FACUNDO 13 Builds 2 points 14 months ago

That's a dream come true for a thug lmao jk

pj_sz submitter 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Thanks mate, It's treating me well

DonWD3 2 points 13 months ago

Take this +1! I love builds like this that involve friends and whatever parts you can get. Great job on it too. I'm curious to see how it changes over time if you plan on upgrading parts.

pj_sz submitter 2 Builds 2 points 13 months ago

Thanks! I plan on turning it to a smaller form factor, finding a mini ITX board and such, and upgrading the GPU to a Vega graphics card. I'll also upgrade the RAM to DDR3-2400, dual channel. Probably the PSU as well, it's fairly low quality and I'd like one with and 80+ Gold rating or higher.

DonWD3 1 point 13 months ago

Sounds like one awesome mini ITX if you ask me! Happy building!

WaldoTheRanger 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

I'm jealous. everything about this build is better than or equal to mine. i'm going dumpster diving now!

Great job. this takes first place on price vs performance.

pj_sz submitter 2 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Thank you! Because of me saving money on this build I'm building a much faster one soon. Vega+Ryzen most likely, with a Ryzen six or eight core CPU and and RX 500 series card.

WaldoTheRanger 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

That sounds nice. would love to get me some Vega+Ryzen myself, but if my excursion to goodwill's computer recycling center goes as planned, maybe i won't need to. :-)

thank you for enlightening me to the possibilities of bargain hunting and sifting through people's trash!

pj_sz submitter 2 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Yup! You can save lots of money by not buying the latest and greatest. The HD7950 for example, is old, but similar in power to a GTX 950.

Wulibear 1 point 14 months ago

How the **** did you get a 3770 for 20 dollars? Who sells that for 20 bucks.._

pj_sz submitter 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

A friend who was upgrading. He didn't need it, and I had helped him with his build so he sold it to me cheap.

Wulibear 1 point 14 months ago

Ok i was just curious who would sell a 450 dollar cpu for 20 bucks._. Steal is right!

pj_sz submitter 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

$450 when it was released back in 2012. It's fairly outdated

Wulibear 1 point 14 months ago

Ya, id still rather amd, the cpu i have in my pc is the FX - 8350 clocked at 4.2 with the Evga GTX 1060 3gb.

pj_sz submitter 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah AMD has nice budget chips but their single core perf is lacking. I'm waiting for Zen and Vega
