Description

Bob

The very name shakes with pure Simplicity, and perplexes with sheer Complexity.
Such a powerful name... and such a powerful build.

Nothing much needs to be said about this build. A picture shows a thousand words, but only through the most meaningful words can a picture be depicted.
Thus, I bring you the only explanation of Bob that I possibly can:
A limerick.

Bob, by cheezmeister

I once did have a laptop, 'twas so old,
That not for $10 it would have sold.
So I got myself some money,
And in summer, hot and sunny,
I created a PC worth more than gold.

Right prior to my PC building day,
I had not a thousand bucks at bay.
So Raven Ridge I went,
And off at once I sent,
To Memory Express's opening hey.

I bought a whole garage of PC parts,
"From there," I thought to myself, "the fun starts."
And right, of course, I was,
The reasoning because,
I could at last be popping Bloons with darts.

I waited months and months to build my PC,
But, I tell you, the process wasn't easy.
It took a lot of strife,
A screwdriver, a knife,
But the end result must make your stomach queasy.

The added RGB strips ('twere a gift)
Really add contrast, they my build uplift.
However, the real sight
Is not found in dancing light
But in the GPU lies the real nift.

Now I must thank you for viewing my build,
And by now if your spine has not been chilled,
Then analyze the pics,
Sift your eyes through the thicks
Of PC, and your desire will be fulfilled.

Part Reviews

CPU

Unexpected performance as a CPU, plus the iGPU is okay for most games at 1080p. Definitely viable if you intend to buy a GPU in future for games, and a great deal for casual esports or office work. I was able to get 4.1 GHz out of the CPU and 1550 MHz in the iGPU, but I have dropped the clocks in favour of undervolting.

CPU Cooler

Looks bad, I don't like the light, cheaply made, bad stock fan, thin radiator, not significantly better than my AMD stock cooler but that's OK, you get what you pay for. A cheap part that I was going to mod and didn't care if I was going to break it: great deal.

Motherboard

Seems to work fine out of the box. I like the MSI BIOS, though it's a bit slow to boot, it looks nice and is easy to navigate, would switch to Coreboot if I could though. I try to update the BIOS 3 times, bricks the motherboard every time. I re-flash to the old BIOS, it works. If MSI wasn't shipping broken BIOSes, I would rate this highly, but I don't see how I am going to upgrade my CPU without BIOS updates.

Memory

Looks great. Doesn't overclock well (3333 MHz max at stock voltage/timings) but it is decent for the price. I overpaid for it (115 CAD) but it's a lot more reasonable now.

Storage

Write is a little slow but I got a good deal so it's fine

Storage

Gets REALLY hot (60C idle sometimes) but it's fast, amazing random speeds, overall worth the money. Slows down a lot when it is full due to the lack of cache, I have to leave 10GB free all the time.

Video Card

Totally worth the money, was dirt cheap on eBay (140 CAD) so I bought it for my freesync display and it performs well no matter what I put it to. Only gripe is the RGB is absolutely trash.

Case

For the price, it's okay, front acrylic panel scratches a lot, installing lights is really awkward, cable management is good though. Less airflow than is ideal, I was told to go with a Phanteks P300s and in retrospect that is a better case, I recommend that over this.

Power Supply

I don't know what all the fire-starting stigma is about, this is a PSU and it looks nice and stays quiet.

Case Fan

These contribute nothing to my airflow

Monitor

Great deal, highly responsive and amazing contrast.

Keyboard

A nice introduction to mechanical keyboards for a beginner like myself.

Mouse

Flick shots 10/10 and really small claw grip mouse

Custom

They look amazing but the cable combs are clear

Now this comment I really do enjoy,
As cleanliness is why I built this toy.
I'm glad that someone saw,
And opened up their maw,
Concerning my OCD building ploy.

Great PC and setup. Sure you could have gotten better parts but who cares. You went from a laptop to a desktop and are really creative. +1 for everything.

Amazing build!! I wish mine was as flashy and cool but it’s stuck in an unfinished basement for now. What are the dimensions of the mouse mat that looks like it could be the size for my desk.

Thanks! The mousepad is 12" x 36", it's a cheap Vipamz one from Amazon.

nice build why a 570 you could go for a 580 or a 1660 for 30 bucks more and got the back plate

  • 3 points

on eBay I sold i7 SKU
That covered most the cost of this GPU.
The 1660 wasn't out
But this shan't become a bout,
For your feedback anyways I thank you.

also I didn't really want a backplate, it's not really the focus of the build

I saw the feedback on my built PC,
So thus, I said, "This comment I must see."
For thy feedback I thank you.
High on the charts I rank you
For people giving words to folks like me.

"great" indeed I saw my PC was,
"lol" so it would seem, my poem at cause.
And "this is [truly] great,"
Thanks for the feedback m8,
And thanks for optimism, despite the flaws.
