This is my PC. That's all there really is to it. I plan on upgrading to the Ryzen 5 1600, Asus Crosshair VI Hero and 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM when I have the money, and also the GTX 1080 Ti equivalent Vega card (or just the 1080 Ti if Vega sux lol) and a 1440p 144Hz monitor.
For most people, this CPU is absolutely pointless. Just spend a small amount extra and get a Ryzen 5 1400 instead. For me, it works. As someone who already owned a good liquid CPU cooler, an extremely good AM3 motherboard and a 1000W 80+ Platinum rated PSU, it was an easy job to overclock this to 4.62GHz and get slightly better performance out of it than a non-overclocked FX-8350. I wouldn't really recommend this CPU to anyone who isn't in an extremely similar situation as me though; you'd be much better suited with a Ryzen 5 1400.
This is a fantastic cooler. Highly recommended for anyone. It's a 120mm so it fits in almost any case, but it's double thickness so it offers the same cooling performance as the Corsair H90, a 140mm liquid cooler. It is extremely quiet; even with the fans on maximum it is much quieter than the stock cooler for my FX-8120 was when under regular gaming load. I have a custom fan profile set to prioritise quietness when idling but prioritise cooling when under load. My FX-8120, which is overclocked to 4.62GHz with 1.45V going through it, idles at around 28°C, under gaming load gets to about 49°C and under full Prime95 load reaches around 57°C. On the stock cooler at stock speeds and voltages it would reach mid 50s under regular gaming load. I cannot recommend this cooler enough.
This is the best AM3 motherboard there is. There is no question about that. It has a whopping 12 USB ports, 4 USB 3.0 and 8 USB 2.0. It also has eSATA, which is fairly nice. This board supports up to 3 graphics cards in SLI or Crossfire and is a fantastic overclocking board. It has very good power delivery so you can feel very comfortable setting the Load Line Calibration to Very High and the Over-Current protection to 130% if you have a good PSU. I've currently got my FX-8120 to 4.62GHz at 1.45V on this board and I'm running a very nice and stable overclock. If you're getting an AM3 board, get this one.
This is some very good RAM. I have enough RAM to do everything I ever wanted and more. I've also got this to a stable 1840MHz on 1.65V (up from a 1.635V default) with an overclock on my CPU. It is very good performing, very high capacity and very nice looking. Highly recommended.
This is a fairly nice and fast SSD, with enough capacity to be a boot drive, hold all of my programs and hold a few large games or a lot of smaller ones. The only gripe I have with this drive is that it's slightly slow for an SSD, but it is still much faster than my HDD so it's not that bad.
I would say that this is the best HD 7970 that you can buy. The problem is; it's a HD 7970. This card is outdated by this point. It doesn't even fully support Freesync. Now it is powerful to run most of the games out today, but it is still showing it's age. When paired with an FX-8120 @ 4.62GHz and when overclocked by 80MHz on the core and 75MHz on the memory, it averages around 50fps in GTA V on a mixture of medium and high settings. While GTA V is horribly optimised for AMD hardware and will perform worse on AMD hardware than it will on Nvidia / Intel hardware that performs the same in every other game, the fact that it can't even push 60fps on medium/high settings is disappointing. You'd do much better with an RX 570 for pretty much the same price.
It may not have the latest and greatest like USB Type-C or USB 3.1 Gen 2, and it may not have a fully tempered glass side panel, but it is still a very solid choice for a case with tons of room, great airflow and a great design. You can fit pretty much anything you want in this case and still have enough room left over for great airflow, and you could easily put a liquid cooled CPU and 2 liquid cooled GPUs in there by making use of the 120mm/140mm fan mount at the back, the 240mm/280mm fan mount at the top and the 240mm fan mount at the bottom.
You could never need anything more from a PSU. A massive 1000W delivery means that you will never run out of power even if you decide to put 2 graphics cards in your build (well, maybe if they're Vega cards and they're overclocked and paired with an overclocked i9 you might), an 80+ Platinum efficiency rating means that you can be sure that you're not wasting any of that power. The fully modular nature of this PSU ensures that you can have a nice, clean and tidy build without a lump of cables at the bottom of your case. Very good PSU.
I use this as a permanent storage solution for my desktop and it works very well. It has fairly high speeds for an external drive and it definitely does it's job of being a decent mass-storage device for the majority of my games and some of my programs. Recommended, either as a portable drive or a permanent one.
