WHAT DO YOU THINK ???
Hi comrades this is my first ever PC build.
'PARTS'
CPU: In the beginning I was considering an i7 4930k, but it's more for professional editors, so I went with the Intel i7 4770k, it still has hyper threading, it's great for gaming and it's also newer. For my whole life I had Intel and there is nothing that would make me consider AMD as of now.
CPU COOLER: I wanted something low profile for a clean look and powerful as knew that the 4770k generates quite a lot of heat especially when overclocking, so I just went the top of the line Corsair H100i.
MOTHERBOARD: When I think of motherboards, I think of ASUS, so I went with them. Becaus eI had a z87 chip set I had to get a z87 motherboard. There were two choices Sabertooth Z87 or ROG Maximus VI formula. I chose the Sabertooth because, it has TUF parts, 5 year warranty, and a thermal armor which can be painted.
RAM: I wanted something RED and reliable, my friend has some older Corser Vengeance memory and he loves it, so I just went for it. I know it's expensive but, it's a future proof build and I want it to be reliable. Why 2X 8GB (16GB), as I said I'm going to be doing a fair amount of graphical editing, so I thought that i's a right size, and it still leaves me a possibility to upgrade anytime.
GPU: As I said I'm a gamer (not competitive), I just want to have a great experience. My favorite (most played) game is Battlefied 4, and it requires some big cahoonazs, especially at 2560 x 1440. Why did I go with the 780 instead of 780ti, because I'm planning to get another card for SLI (Easter time), and if I would go with the 780ti that's like extra £400 which is a bit to much, even for me, because there is a limit on my budget. Some of you would say, you should have went with Ratheon R9 290X, but there is just something about nVidia that I like. I chose EVGA because their warranty covers overclocking, simple as that.
STORAGE: I went with a 120GB SSD for the core software, like OS, steam, Skype etc. Then I got a 250GB SSD form my games and main programs like Photoshop, AutoCAD, 3DS MAX, etc. Both drives are Samsung 840 EVO series, initially I wanted to get Corsair GTX series, but I saw a video about the 840s on 'Linus Tech Tips' and went with those instead. Finally for my mass storage I got a WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD, because it's reliable.
PSU: For the pwer supply I got Corsair AX860i, it's new, Platinum certified, and it supports Corsair LINK so I didn't really consider anything else. (For those who thinks I need 1200 watts, 860 watts is more than enough for GTX780 SLI)
FANS: Corsair AF and SP 'Quiet edition' fans, because they're good plus they match the style.
CASE: Initially wanted to get a Cooler Master HAF X, but it was just too crazy, plus it had a fan on the side which obstructed the view. Then I saw Corsair 900D, and felt in love with it, but it was too big, I looked at 350D but it was too small, so I needed something in between, and I found the 650D, which was the right size, right look (minimalist, stealthy). I was just about to get it when I saw the 750D and immediately, I knew it was the case I want. I know that some people hate it, but I love it, and that's what matters.
MONITOR: My first choice was an LG 29EA93, because it is a 21:9 monitor which means you get some extra room, but it's not that good for photo editing. In the end I went with a 27" Asus PB278Q IPS monitor, it has a 2560x1440p resolution which gives me more space to work, and colours look AWESOME. I will never be gaming on a 1080p monitor again, because everything looks just so much crisper, sharper and bigger. For this kind of money it's a steal.
MOUSE: I got the Roccat Cone XTD, because my friend has it, it's comfortable, it's great for FPS and it has cool lights.
KEYBOARD: Corsair Vengeance K70, I saw it at a gaming conference, and I just liked it, so I got it.
MODS: 1. I have painted the GTX780 front shield, because it just looks better. 2. I got Bit Fenix cable extensions instead of Corsair individually sleeved cables because I'm going to do a PSU/drive bay cover so you wouldn't see them anyway, something like this (http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=259735) 3. I got an LED RGB light strip to illuminate the case, I got an RGB strip because you can change the colour, and I like both red and white light, because with red everything is red, where as the white just highlights red bits. 4. I also plan to mod the MOBO thermal armour.
PROBLEMS: The only major problem I had, was a broken HDD. I has worked for 5 days, but then every time I switched the PC on ,I get a message on my screen saying (S.M.A.R.T. statud BAD, Backup and Replace), so I had to get a new HDD. I also had a small problem with my H100i. I wanted to put it into a push-pull configuration but the screws were too short so I had to take out the rubber corners from the SP120 fans.
I haven't done any major overclocking because I haven't done enough research, if any of you could suggest any places to learn from I would appreciate it.
