Description

I've always wanted to do a custom case build but metalwork is not really my forte. So I settled on making the case part of a desk. I got most of the materials (glass, wood, etc...) from where I was working, which is good because wood ain't cheap. I bought a cooler master n200 and tore it apart to make the motherboard tray and hard drive cadges. The parts where from an older build that I had sitting and collecting dust. Nothing too powerful but still usable for a workstation and gaming. The assembly wasn't too difficult. note to anyone who is planning on doing something like this; make sure all the cables will reach. I had few cables that where just a bit to short and had to buy a few extensions. The hardest part was mounting the front panel i/o board to the desk. Getting it to the right height so that the button still worked and building a cover to hide all the ugly bits was a nightmare. All in all the table turned out great and my brother to whom I gave it too was very pleased. Hopefully I can convince his to watercool it later on...

+1! I love the idea of building your PC in a desk! I'm curious - how are your PC's temps in this thing?

FearTheFuzzy submitter 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Temps on the cpu will hit 60c under load, Gpu around 70c

Looks great. I like your take on the desktop pc. Makes mine look more redneck than stylish.

Thumbs up.

It's woo-mazing! +1

Gooberdad 10 Builds 3 points 24 months ago

Lol terrible El..but plus one anyway

Eltech 20 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

lol Yes, I'm better off just explaining about something than trying to fuse two words together.

Gooberdad 10 Builds 3 points 24 months ago

I'm not good at either.

Eltech 20 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

Well I'm certain you got way better jokes than I do. My only work when I'm talking to family, friends, and sometimes other people. I'm the serious one, but it tends to be taken as a multi-interpretation that leads to a funny or a sick joke.

Gooberdad 10 Builds 3 points 24 months ago

Lol oh my gosh, in that we are a lot alike. My funniest jokes and moments are not intentional.

Well I'm like Wreck-It-Eltech. I just know how to break puns, but I'm not good at fixing them.

So clean. So cool, always imagined trying this. Great work.

+1, expect that feature.

Really nice looking! Innovative approach on tearing apart a case for the mounting points. Also just fyi there's a typo in the description, cadges should be cages, not to be mean just trying to help out. :D

I want to build this. Do you have the specs on the desk? or a cut list? What type of wood did you use? I must know!!!

FearTheFuzzy submitter 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

If you really want to build something like this, I suggest first getting a piece of glass that you want to use for the table top. Once you have that piece it will determine the cut sizes for your wood. For me, I got a glass shower door that was 60" x 21". The wood was Douglas Fir planks at 8" x 108" x 7/8". Finished product was 61 3/4" x 27", The thickness is 3" for where you sit and 8" for where the pc is. I find that 8" thick is a little small since subtracting the 1/2" for the glass and 7/8" for the bottom only leaves you with 6 - 5/8" space on the inside. Fine for shorter gpu's and cpu coolers but definitely not a 1080 FTW ed. for example.

Thats so cool i wish i could have something like that but sadly i can't. but in my opinion then the seagate barracuda gtx 960 2gb is not that great.

FearTheFuzzy submitter 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

I totally agree with you! I would have liked to put some better hardware in it, but I also wanted to keep the cost to an absolute minimum, so that's why I put older stuff I had lying around.

bapplelord 1 point 24 months ago

yeah you should try a western digital thing.

hadesfactor 1 point 24 months ago

Looks great!...you should take a look at the youtube from Linus Tech Talks he does this project. Your desk is by far much more elegant but I would maybe look at his custom pc layout for some ideas when you're ready to upgrade. Great Work!

Awesome!

Its good! But just a suggestion. Get a PCIe extender and put your graphics card beside your motherboard, so it looks cleaner.

how long it take to make?

FearTheFuzzy submitter 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

About a month

Eldflamman 1 point 24 months ago

Your face when you have a new mouse -_- +1 for custom case

Braedenator 1 point 23 months ago

You should really start selling these. I would buy it.
