Description

I originally purchased the Gigabyte Z87 LGA 1150 4 Way SLI Overclock ATX Motherboard (GA-Z87X-OC Force) for this build. Though, unfortunately, it arrived broken twice (Amazon replaced the first one, and then refunded for the second one). I then chose to purchase an alternative motherboard (seen in the parts list). Additionally, I had ordered the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4GB GDDR5 PCiE Video Graphics Card GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD. Though, it arrived damaged. I got refunded for it by Amazon and opted for the 980.

Please note: 1) The 2 Dell monitors were purchased with additional 5-year warranties (price displayed reflects such). 2) I am still working on a few things, such as the cable management (and the clearing of all items from the floor), the mounting of the 2nd monitor, and I plan to purchase an additional monitor (will probably be the Dell 34" ultrawide). I also have some additional plans for this build in the future, aside from the mentioned upgrades. I will try to post an update and or new picture(s) once I have made further upgrades to this build.

Update (3/24/16): I have yet to post final pictures of my setup, as I continue to have trouble mounting my additional monitor. Once I figure out a mounting solution for my hollow walls (I have tried most if not all methods suggested by The Home Depot), I will post final pictures. I appreciate all the comments; I read all of them, and I will try to reply to each of them.

Update (12/20/16): I posted updated photos of my setup and build. Though I know they are not the best quality. I have since added a mixer, an additional SSD, replaced my mousepad with the XXXL version, and worked on cable management inside my case.

Update (07/20/17): replaced my GTX 980 with a 1080 and replaced some older pictures with newer ones.

Cablemangement son! Get some $3 velcrostraps and tie 'em up.

Nail 3-4 velcro straps to the bottom of the desk, then fasten the organized cables there. You'll never have to see the ugly cables again.

I'm on it, thanks! I actually have a signum (already mounted to the bottom of my desk) and a case of velcro ties. I am actually about to mount my 2nd monitor, and will attempt a bit more at cable managing soon after. I also need to get rid of the stuff below my desk (some of which are forcing me to run cables down). I am considering mounting a 3 wall shelving unit for the stuff below my desk (modem, router, and set-top box). I appreciate your reply and interest!

I just posted a picture of what my cable management now looks like. Once I get the power strip mounted, I should be able to hide everything.

As nice as it is to look on top and underneath the desk, I think it would be a bit better to actually post pictures of the rig in question. I mean, I came to PCPartPicker, not PCDeskPicker. Jump on it buddy. lol.

Haha, of course. I need to mount my other monitor. I spent the other day trying to mount it to my hollow walls. I'm gonna attempt it again Sunday, and will hopefully have some pictures soon (might take nicer pictures too with my DSLR; no promises, though)!

Nice build overall, and to be honest, the G502 mouse is one of my favorite, i wish i did own one, but in the future i might. I see it is a work in progress, so i am sure things will turn out well for you.

I don't even know. I agree with you; I should probably work on my cable management inside the case. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks; I don't see it as a necessity though it would be helpful for those video and photography edits.

What is your opinion on the Dell S2716DG? Any issues?

So far, I have not experienced any major issues, and it works as expected. Though, there is minor backlight bleed, which is barely noticeable. However, as a precaution, I did purchase 5-year warranties on my monitors, as from my experience, Dell upholds to them.

Is there a big difference between the two monitors, as in colour? Im debating on buying the dell S2716DG but just concerned about the TN panel vs a IPS panel.

It is difficult to compare the two, as both serve different purposes. The IPS panel (U2715H) definitely has slightly better color reproduction, though with some tweaking the TN panel (S2716DG) looks fairly nice. In my opinion, the color reproduction is quite close to the IPS panel (U2715H). Try it out, if you do not like it, return it.

I want that desk. Is that a Galant desk from IKEA? They don't sell them anymore :(
