Description

this is my first build, ever! my old computer was a 500$ laptop that had a broken screen so I used it as a desktop. it got a lot of viruses after two years and it cant run any games besides payday 2 on low (extremely laggy) fallout new vegas on medium (with some lag) and minecraft on medium low. so I was looking into buying a desktop for 800$ my friend told me that I could build one that was 3X better for 100$ less. I wanted to prove him wrong so I started doing some research and needless to say he was right. after months of research I began making money and buying this thing part by part. I am now awaiting the arrival of the graphics card next week to finish it up. (please note that I have no clue what I'm doing outside of all the youtube videos I have watched.) if you have any suggestions feel free to tell me because I need all the help I can get!

please excuse the picture quality I used my ipad mini, (that has an ok camera,) and a desk lamp for lighting

if you are wondering why i have windows 8 for free; my friend, (the one who told me to build a computer,) is getting one from his uncle for me because his uncle works at some business and they have extras.

also you can't buy the gpu I got for the same price because the day after i bought it, it was discontinued on newegg.

(Update) I did some cable management and it looks much better now! thank you everyone for you suggestions

Update graphics card is here I will post pictures ASAP

I like the build and really like that case so +1 on that

Question: were the cables not long enough to route behind the motherboard?

they weren't, i was trying to today but i couldn't get them to work

(update) turns out if you untangle the wires that they reach father

Dang that's unfortunate, welp time to whip out the zipties and fix some cables then :P

I would have spent an extra 10 bucks for modular IMO

My suggestions would be to research "computer cable management" and to put your ram in slot 1 of channel 1. It may not matter with that motherboard (I'm not sure) but it's a good rule of thumb. Well done taking the dive into building your own. +1

No worries, I see you mentioned the cables weren't long enough to route behind the motherboard. I agree with RyneSmith about the zipties. They are your best friend when it comes to cable management.

I like it. That extra ram stick will do you good, but for now that thing will be fine. I like this build, by the way, lots of people go with the 6300 when they could go with the 6350 for a tad bit more.

i noticed that the 6350 was more powerful and since it was the same price as the 6300 i though that i might as well buy it

i got the same gpu at around the same price and then noticed it was discontinued a week after i got it, not sure why its discontinued as it is an excellent gpu :D

i got the very last one and it was an open box

It was discontinued because the AMD R9 280x has taken over that price range. I just bought the 280x to Crossfire with my 7950 because the 7950 I have was out of stock. It's back, but the price difference bewteen the two is minimal, so you might as well spring for the 280x because it's a 7970 Ghz Edition rebranded.

You'll probably be able to buy some of those left over 7950's for cheap around Black Friday.

He's saying you should have gotten 8 GB and not 4.

Also something a bit faster than 1333.

I really like your case. You did well to stay in your budget. As always, you can take this as far as you want, but it's a solid starting point!

The Tempest 410 is a very unique (and sexy) case.

+1 for a well balanced build

First time building a modern desktop myself as well. Nice to see another noob. Good job & well budgeted. Seems like you spent about what I did and went with some similar parts. I needed more ram and less graphic power for my workstation.

Lets see the latest pics....What did you go with for a monitor?

First time using windows 8?

Hey, did you have any problems with the Mobo and CPU, cause PCP says that I may need a BIOS update using a 970 Mobo with a Vishera CPU. Let me know. Thanks.

No everything works perfectly right now.

people tend to go for the 6300 over the 6350 because the 6300 can be overclocked to above 6350 speeds, has a 30W lower base wattage, and costs cheaper

  • 1 point

Butt (the extra t is intensional) the 6350 can be over-clocked to speeds that are even higher

Fair enough
