Description

First custom PC! Runs all my games awesomely, check comments for details. I would buy different RAM; underclocked itself to ~1333 because of voltage. If you don't need the Pro version of the 840, get the 830. Also, the cd/dvd clashes with the front of the case, so I use an old external cd/dvd. Almost everything was on sale when I got it. ~850 w/o rebates.

Achieved 4.2GHz OC stable on the CPU, maxing at about 32c on full load w/room at ~62f.

What are your GPU temps like with the HIS card? They really hype their coolers; I'm wondering if they really work.

It's pretty good, don't remember specifics. One negative is that it does get loud under full load with only one fan. I set a custom fan profile to let it get warmer without ramping up the fan so much.

this is almost the same build im planning. How does this setup do in gaming?

It's great. I play borderlands 2 maxed, and the CPU can handle PhysX no problem.

I think this build could have done without the 840 pro. An 840 would have been around 3/5 of the price and would have exactly what you need.

Unless you plan on completely rewriting your SSD 1,500 times, I do not think you will benefit from the MLC flash or the 540MB write speeds granted games only benefit from read speeds.

facepalm could have gotten 2x4gb ram similar to that but corsair brand for 39 bucks and the 23sh bucks you saved could have went with the Radeon 7870xt gpu :. other than that, nice build :D

Don't think the xt was out at the time, and a lot of my build was on sale then :) I should have gotten 1.5v RAM though.
