Description

A birthday present for my girlfriend to replace her crap acer.

I went with the i7 4790 as i didn't see the cost/ performance benefit of skylake, and i also wanted hyper threading as she uses her machine for work as well as casual gaming. Non K versions as overclocking wasn't needed.

The motherboard is solid for its price and looks nice and tidy in the case, did i mention it is cheap!

The hyper x is memory and it works, it also looks pretty good.

The rajintec cooler looks great does a great job and is expandable, would use again no probs.

The ssd is an ssd she needed one..everyone needs one!

The psu, HDD and gpu were all salvaged from an older build and work nicely.

The case is just one of the best I have ever used, wish I had a build in one myself. Honestly hats off to thermaltake.

Ring edition fans finish the build off nicely...she loves green.

All in all i'm happy with the performance and look i manged to get for the money and more imporatanly my girlfriend loves it! I will upload more pics when i get a chance.

I like the build overall. I must agree on the case! I just built a rig in that case and I think I fell in love. When I build my new rig later this year I'm pretty sure I'm re-using my case!

thanks, i have uploaded a few more pics. I put one of my 970's in just to see how it did in firestrike, pretty impressive I can see the out of the box draw that intel has now. Have to admit if zen doesn't live up to the hype i will be moving over to intel later in the year.

I know where you are coming from but the 4790 (see cpuboss) does have better single and multi core bench marks but You can push more out of the 6600k as it is unlocked. When push comes to shove I would rather have the multi threading for power desktop applications such as Sony Vegas. But if someone wants to donate a 6600k to me i wouldn't say no..lol, thanks for the comments.

true but you have to trust someone, I think if all she did was play games I would go for the 6600k but the truth is she uses multi core multi threaded applications alot so the 4790 just made sense at the time. Yeah the 6600k would have been great for this to but it may end up lacking a bit of grunt in the end and the extra threads of the 4790 come into there own. Also the ipc is pretty new. if its any consolation im looking at the 6700k for myself.

cheers...glad you understood why I picked the 4790, at the end of the day it hard to pick a poor chip from haswell, haswell e and skylake platforms at the upper tiers, well done intel but come on AMD i want some competition!
