$660 Gaming Rig +$240 for dual-monitor setup for general work.
This is my second build; my first build was a mediocre barebones kit for my family. I'm not a huge gamer by any means, so I chose to invest money in a dual-monitor setup instead of buying a more powerful CPU/GPU. I think that I could overclock the 6300 later (and get a CPU cooler), and maybe even upgrade the graphics card in a few years without changing anything else around. The silent power supply is really nice, but the stock cooler is ruining the moment with its relative loudness.
I salvaged a hard drive from my first build, and Windows 8.1 is "free" with Dreamspark. I already had an external drive, so I didn't bother getting an internal. Also, the 260X came with AMD Radeon Rewards, meaning free Thief and Deus Ex: Human Revolution!
The build process went well, although I have no idea if the cable management is correct. There were some problems with getting Windows to realize my two monitors were, in fact, two unique monitors. It seemed to think there was only one monitor because they are both the same model. So far, Civ V, Deus Ex, LoL, Portal 1 & 2, and most importantly, Super Hexagon, all run smoothly at highest settings. I'll see how Thief runs when it is released.
For some reason, the LED fan (placed as back exhaust) was running twice the speed of the two other fans (front intake), so I switched the placements around and now they're running around the same. The sad part is that the LED fan isn't visible anymore, but I don't really mind. There is a LOGISYS Sunlight Stick (white light) along the top-inside of the case and also custom ambient backlight for the dual monitors, which is as simple as white LED Christmas lights strung carefully to be invisible.
I spray-painted the Shinobi case mesh strips gold, which surprisingly needed only one coat on each side without any primer - I was worried because other people had sanded, primed, and layered several coats. This whole setup is a custom standing desk, kindly provided by NewEgg (i.e. the shipping boxes), reinforced with legendary duct tape.
