Description

I put this computer together a few months ago and have just finally got around to publishing the build here. A close friend of mine sold his little brother on having me build his computer instead of a custom computer shop called XGamerPC and he couldn't have been happier with the result. I'm really proud of the work I did on this one. It took me about 7 hours when you count the cable sleeving time.

I made a video as well.

I'm very curious for criticisms on the build or the video. And I'm always happy to answer questions!

Very well done! You get an A+.

joelhowell 7 points 16 months ago

Screw A+, I give em a 1+ because that actually means something.

Solid PC...nice photographs, too. What camera did you use?

8F01C198997 submitter 11 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Nikon D5300 with 40mm f2.8 "Micro Nikkor" macro lens and 35mm f1.8 Prime lens

A close friend of mine sold his little brother on having me build his computer instead of a custom computer shop called XGamerPC and he couldn't have been happier with the result.

Your close friend sold his little brother so you could build a computer for him?!

Edit: LOL I'm reading it differently it seems.

Thank you for the great photos! I really love the close up shots and angles of the build. It is very professional and I appreciate these HD photos. +1
8F01C198997 submitter 11 Builds 3 points 16 months ago

He sold him on having me build it. Like he told him, "Get 8F01C198997 to build it."

or

"Do you want him to build it?"

"Ok. I'm sold."

Eltech 16 Builds 2 points 16 months ago
Again, I love your photographs. I use a D5100 Nikon and I can tell you have used a Macro lens too. It looks great. :)
Firejay17 3 Builds 2 points 16 months ago

Stereotypical_Whale 2 points 16 months ago

OH those deliciously quality photos, and that power cable brings a smile to my face :).

8F01C198997 submitter 11 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Thanks! It's such a simple and easy thing that I think really makes it stand out.

Stereotypical_Whale 1 point 16 months ago

WOW, that was fast!

OMG BRAIDED POWER CABLE TAKE MAH MONEY

On the serious note, amazing build, You deserve my +1

Where did you get the cable combs? Can you buy them separately (from each other)

Once again +1

EDIT: Nice Binary code... You got me...

SonicBooooom 1 point 16 months ago

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=cable+combs

The $0.00 dollar ones are the ones where you can choose the size and quantity of the cable combs. Also got different colors.

ShriyansM 2 points 16 months ago

How does one obtain clients? Seems like a good business. Also great build! Love the cable management :)

8F01C198997 submitter 11 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Thanks! It's always good to know people think my build is "greg." As far as clients go. ****'s hard yo. I have just been known by my friends to make some really nice computers.

ShriyansM 2 points 16 months ago

My bad, forgot to check for typos. Well I guess you can call it Greg. It's nice that you have something to help out your friend with as well. :)

YE_OLDE_NOOB 1 point 10 months ago

SlowMindPleaseAdvise 1 Build 2 points 16 months ago

Radox-0 3 Builds 2 points 16 months ago

Very nice clean work sir. Part list is straight forward, but the cabling really kills it. Looks yum. Love the PSU cable. +1

BM4C 1 Build 2 points 16 months ago

Excellent job on cable management, looks very nice!

WubbGmbaa 2 points 15 months ago

+1 for sleeved power cable. It's a nice touch.

ThugginMcMuffin 3 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Good job on the color matching and I love the sleeving you have done. Very smart idea (not sure how well it holds up though) on sleeving the PSU cable. have not really seen that before, at least I think so (seen a lot of builds through the years :P)

But yeah, great build! I think my only criticism is using really slow RAM when that motherboard supports much higher, and trust me, the difference between 1600 and lets say 2400 is huge. I have seen some people get around a 12-15% increase in performance from the two.

8F01C198997 submitter 11 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Thanks! The PSU cable holds pretty well although the heatshrink seems to slide down a little over time. I have a solution to that for next time though.

I'm curious what programs you see that large of a performance gain from memory speed from? I've never had that large of a Delta and I have 2400 speed in my own machine.

ThugginMcMuffin 3 Builds 2 points 16 months ago

not really programs per say, but I mostly saw it in benchmarks people had posted at Overclock(dot)net.

real world performance is only like 2-3 FPS in games maaaybe

-I probably said that was just me nit picking about the RAM. You said you love criticism :P

8F01C198997 submitter 11 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

I appreciate it. That's pretty much what I thought.

Jady 1 point 16 months ago

I love you cable management and the computer and general. Wondering why you only put in a 960 tho. Not the best for gaming??

ZygoteConrad 2 Builds 2 points 16 months ago

Well, the 950-960's are a pretty sweet price/performance point, especially for 1080p gaming. Plus an upgrade to the yet to be revealed 1060 looks like it will be somewhere between the 970/980 in performance.

8F01C198997 submitter 11 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

He only really plays Runescape, CS:GO, and LoL. I figured it would be worth while to put the money towards an i7 instead of a 970 since he does a lot of streaming.

Jady 2 points 16 months ago

Okay that makes a lot of sense. I really like the build. It looks really really nice.

Hazop141 1 point 16 months ago

Do you know how it is running? As in how games are performing and i what quality? Looks such good value for money so was just wondering. Also looks amazing :)

8F01C198997 submitter 11 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Thank you. I didn't extensively benchmark this, but it is easily capable of running LoL at 144hz (which is good because he has a 144hz monitor)

Hazop141 1 point 16 months ago

Nice! thanks :)

fortking 1 Build 1 point 16 months ago

Tbh i would have gone with 4690k and waited for like the 1060 or rx480 :P i have the 4790k and 960 and kinda regretting it now, but wateves

8F01C198997 submitter 11 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Except that additional graphics performance would have done almost nothing for this man as he does not play any graphically demanding games. Additionally, this was from February when there was not even a hint of the RX480 or GTX 1060.
