Hello and Thank You for checking out my Build and reading it's Description!
This is Security my Gaming and HTPC rig! My previous PC was a pre-built I had bought at Best Buy. I slowly upgraded it to where it played most games on Medium - high settings with decent frame rates, but I still wasn't satisfied. No, I wanted to max out everything and have more FPS to spare! And although my old PC served me well, I felt it was time to take the plunge and build something awesome from the ground up!

Old Rig Stats: In preparation of my coming build I ran a few tests to see what my old system could do before building my new one. I ran the Tomb Raider(2013) Benchmark 1080p on Ultra preset, FXAA, and No TressFx. My Average FPS was 71 and with my GPU overclocked it was 81. My new system was able to pull off 225 fps with the same settings! And 91 with Ultimate preset, TressFx on and SSAA x4! Other than TressFx I didn't notice a difference between FXAA and SSAA x4.

New Rig Thoughts: After having owned my rig for about a year now it's still everything I had hoped it would be. Games like WoW, and Overwatch run on average 90fps and G-sync helps to make everything a smooth experience. I still notice some screen tearing, but only once every 20 minutes or longer, however with G-sync off it's almost constant. On more demanding games like BF4 and Fallout 4 it's closer to 60-70fps with few dips into the mid 50s.

Special thanks to a work buddy of mine for providing the desk. He was going to throw it out, luckily it was exactly what I was looking for and offered it to me!

Monitor: The Acer Predator x34 is an amazing monitor, I wanted a monitor that would push my 980ti and get my moneys' worth out of it! Though I hate to admit that the monitor itself wasn't quite worth the $1300 I poured into it, but live and learn. The picture is still incredible 1440p I feel is the perfect resolution for gaming in an immersive setting. I don't notice the curve at all, and only Skyrim has shown this odd 'stretched' look on the sides when turning around. Luckily there are programs like Flawless Widescreen to fix most of those problems. Watching High Quality content is breath taking when you watch them at higher resolutions. Though the fixes for getting rid of the black bars on the side kind of 'zoom in' the image which takes away some of the bottom and top of the video on things like Netflix and Youtube. I don't regret my purchase one bit, I write this so others can make an informed purchase, these are just a few of the problems I ran into that others never mentioned.

Edit: I saved myself some money by pulling the Storage I had from my Old Build, that allowed me to pour more money into better parts, and get me everything I wanted! Edit [9/6/16 Upgrades Inbound!] New Cables coming soon! Fans Installed! Will Update with pictures soon!

Part Reviews

The only way I could buy this was in a combo order and man was I lucky the combo had the exact mobo I wanted too! The 6700K is fast! Going from a 2.7 to 4.0Ghz makes a world of Difference!

CPU Cooler

Recommended to me by a friend, it keeps the 6700K nice and cool 28 C idle, 60 C under load! You can't beat that for $20. It was really easy to instal once I got over my fear of breaking my motherboard, if you don't take the fan off first, you're gonna have a bad time. It didn't come with instructions on what bolts to use for which sockets. A quick youtube consultant helped me with that. You use the big ones for the 6700k!

Has 2 HDMI and 1 DVI outputs, they should have just kept one of those and added more USB ports in the back. Other than that it's a great board easy to use and install. SATA ports are twice as fast as my old pc! There are audio pops when you use the software that came with it. But using Razer orNvidia sound drivers fix the issue.

Video Card

this card is amazing I'm still waiting for my more GPU intensive games to download, but it handles Fallout 4 at 1080p with everything maxed out like a Champion! I know there's a frame lock on it but for now not having any hitching or stuttering is really nice! I know this card is meant for 4k, but I am making plans to buy a 2k monitor I just don't know if $800 is going to be worth it for a PC monitor. I believe 4k still isn't there, maybe when Pascal hits then we'll see, but for now 980 Ti would be perfect for a 2k monitor.

It was the closest in aesthetics I was going for, it has 3 Cooler Master fans installed, I was afraid my 980 Ti would be too large for the drive bay, but it turns out there's still plenty of room! The only Con I can think of in my case is that the wires for the 2 Front fans were way too short to reach my Mobo. So for the price I give for this thing I think it should have come with a simple fan controller. Also it's freaking heavy, and a little bit larger than I expected but it's still a nice case!

Power Supply

love that I got this at such a great deal! I pulled the trigger on this thinking it wasn't going to go down any further in price, and I was right! It was back up to $190 when I last looked at it.

I love this monitor! Though it can be a pain to go in and set everything up to run at the new 21:9 aspect, but it's totally worth that little bit of hassle! The 100hz refresh rate makes a noticeable difference compared to 60hz when playing games. Can't say for 144hz monitors as I have yet to see one up close. I believe that Acer has everything fleshed out with all the problems that plague this monitor, as I have no issues with it at all so far. There is a fair amount of BLB, and IPS glow in the corners. Since I never really noticed it before I don't take issue with it, you can only really see it when everything is black. I don't think I need to tweak it anymore than lowering the brightness. Great monitor, but I still don't think its quite worth the $1300 price tag, that's it's only con to me.

Good build, whats with the 40gb ssd?

Aarodynamics 2 Builds 2 points 41 months ago

Probably OS, or from his previous computer.

Kqewrf 2 points 41 months ago

Maybe, why not invest in another evo tho

Aarodynamics 2 Builds 2 points 41 months ago

Well yes, but he just might have had it laying around, but if he didn't I agree with you.

Sxcbeast submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

Yeah, I pulled both from my old PC. Was able to pour more money into better parts. Got all I wanted! Might buy more storage later down the road but for now I don't really need more just yet.

Sxcbeast submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

Was my first SSD I bought couple years ago for my OS, and I just hung on to it and put whatever game I play most often on it.

dns637 2 points 41 months ago

evo? meh...get liquid cooling your cpu deserves more plus you're going to overclocking, right?

Sxcbeast submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

Not for a while. Might get an AIO when I do.

tigerblood213 1 Build 2 points 41 months ago

Watch out for the cat hair clogging up the dust filters but other than that this is a great system.

Sxcbeast submitter 1 Build 2 points 41 months ago

Yep! I'm planning on making him a kitty castle out of all the cardboard boxes I got with this build. Maybe that'll keep him away from it.

I am in love with the Mastercase

Sxcbeast submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

Me too! Soon as I saw it i knew it was the one I was going to get.

Arkwoman1990 1 Build 2 points 41 months ago

Sweet build,

If you haven't buy some fan extensions for your two front fans.

Sxcbeast submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

Yeah, really need em they're too short and I want my Mobo to control them.

shift1123 2 points 41 months ago

man i be sitting here all estatic because i wanna build a pc soon to further my pc masterhood

Sxcbeast submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

It's fun! Just like learning about a car engine, but man it's an expensive hobby to get into. :)

shift1123 2 points 41 months ago

i kno i havent built one yet i know so munch about it (mostly from forums and YouTube) and i love wut i see so far

Sxcbeast submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

That's how I started! It's fun to find out how it all works and be able to fix any problems that come around.

shift1123 2 points 41 months ago

yeah i know i cant wait to start overclocking

shift1123 2 points 40 months ago

it is i like learning in fact i know several people that have already built their own pc but somehow i know more than them about it :)

Sxcbeast submitter 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

I still have a lot to learn, I have 3 friends that help me out with any problems I can't fix myself, all 3 were once IT techs.

Wegason 1 Build 2 points 32 months ago

You are so right about the fan cables being ridiculously short! I couldn't reach my motherboard at all with them and I had the Maker 5 and I couldn't reach the fan hub either! I replaced them all with Corsairs in my build.

Nice build!

Sxcbeast submitter 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

Nice build you got there! I was so torn between that Motherboard and my current one. I think looks won out in the end, I just couldn't work with all that white. Do Corsairs fans have longer cables? I need to look those up for my upgrades I've got planned. I was just going to buy some fan extensions. Maybe add some threaded cables to make it look nice and clean. And I want to put a white stencil that says Security on the bottom blacked-out part. But the biggest part is waiting for a couple of 1080ti s if they do come out.

Wegason 1 Build 2 points 32 months ago

Much longer cables. They stretch from the front to the fan hub location on the motherboard tray.

Thanks sometimes I'm more proud of that than the build itself!
