Description

Hey everyone!

This is my second build and my boyfriends first as this is a gift for him for our four year anniversary this month! He has always wanted his own gaming PC so I thought I would surprise him with this. :)

He will be using this mainly for gaming.

Games he mainly plays: - CS: Source/CS: GO - WoW - ARMA 3 - DayZ - Minecraft ...well, too many to name!

I started collecting parts a few months ago, while sticking to a blue and black color scheme while keeping it under $650 with room to upgrade in the future.

CPU: I chose this because I got a pretty sweet deal on it during Black Friday and is perfect for the games he plays. Will be overclocking soon!

COOLER: This cooler is awesome! Very quiet, pushes a lot of air and fits the color scheme perfectly.

MOBO: Didn't need anything too fancy, easy to use BIOS.

RAM: It's G. Skill.. you can't really go wrong there! Overclocked to 2133Mhz.

SSD: I debated between this and the Samsung 840 EVO, went with this as it was cheaper at the time of purchase.

HDD: Had this from an old build.

GPU: This is my old GPU he will be using for a bit until I purchase his new one. Most likely an R9 280/X.

CASE: This case was great to work with. Plenty of room for a mid tower, nice design and plenty of air flow.

PSU: Another good deal. Fully modular, 80+ Bronze.

FANS: I have these in my build also and they have been great. Quiet, not too bright, and they push a lot of air.

KEYBOARD/HEADSET: Had these from a previous build.. but will be getting a Corsair Vengeance K70 soon!

MOUSE: He wanted a mouse he could customize and be able to adjust the weight as well. Got it with my employee discount at my job and with a gift card.

Overall, he is super pumped about this build and I am really happy as well.

Let me know what you guys think! :)

The K70 is amazing

ajpinton 11 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

To make the naming better, Cortana will be in windows 10 as the voice assistant. Its already up in the technical preview, and windows 10 will be a free upgrade for people with windows 7. So he will be able to call his PC Cortana sometime this summer and have it answer. :D

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

I was thinking that too! Haha!

jay227ify 2 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

Are you that girl from reddit. Her boyfriend was a competitive cs go player.

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

Nah haha :)

Scout764 2 points 48 months ago

Wow, This build will probably be the base for my upcoming build. But when checking the parts there was a compatabiltiy error: "Unable to verify the Rosewill STEALTH ATX Mid Tower Case and the Enermax ETS-T40-BK 76.0 CFM CPU Cooler are compatible." Was this a problem for you, or did it work out okay?

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

It fit perfectly fine, there is probably another 3-4mm in between the window and the heatsink (which is fine). I was concerned about it not fitting either, but I contacted Rosewill before hand to make sure it would fit and they said it would since I couldn't find any info on the CPU clearance on this case. But its awesome! Both the case and the Enermax cooler. I HIGHLY recommend it :) Only thing i would change is the GPU to a R9 280/X since it is better than the GTX 660, 960 and 760 for cheaper/around the same price. The GTX 660 is a placeholder from my old build until I purchase a XFX R9 280X for this. :D

Feliks 1 point 42 months ago

:3 how is the 280x? Like what settings do you think I'll be able to play on? I'm doing my first build right now and went with the 280x.

jonesmbarry 2 points 45 months ago

This is a really nice build. Your boyfriend is lucky to have awesome enough to build something like this for him. Hope he appreciates it.

G502 is an awesome mouse. +1 for awesome build in specs and looks.

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

Thank you! I agree, I tried out the mouse too and i'm starting to like it better than my DeathAdder 2013, ha!

Growliff1234 1 point 46 months ago

Are you kidding ? I have to try out this mouse... That's what I use

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 46 months ago

Oh yes. So much more comfortable and a lot more features.

HungrySpartan20 1 Build 1 point 48 months ago

Nice job! I really like this build, I've built something similar for my brother who got into PC Gaming. Good job! Very good price and by the way, there's nothing wrong with handing down a GPU, I had a old GTX 640 2GB Card and he has had it for a year or so now, and the only reason he notices lag now is because he has played on my PC Which has a 970GTX in it xDD, gonna upgrade soon for him. :), good job overall! +1 :)

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

Thanks! It was a great card for me and still is for the games he plays, he is definitely enjoying it :)

HungrySpartan20 1 Build 2 points 48 months ago

Nice! I'm building my bro another pc actually today, or atleast helping him pickout the parts haha :), Anyways goodluck on your quest to Whiterun hehe :p

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

How'd you know I like Skyrim?! Ha!

-Mikey

HungrySpartan20 1 Build 2 points 48 months ago

xDD I knew someone would get that reference :P

dsargent7 1 Build 1 point 48 months ago

Nice work. All these parts make good sense as a fair gaming machine. Definitely +1 for the thoughtful gift aspect.

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

Thank you. :D

mtheawesome 1 point 48 months ago

There is so much ******* beauty in this world

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

mlach 4 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

Nicely done, great part choice for the budget.

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

Thank you :))

brookelog 1 point 48 months ago

I was curious, the newegg entry for the case shows it with red fans, other pictures show it with just plain fans. Your case has 4 blue led fans, but only purchased 2. Did you have 2 blue fans already?

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 48 months ago

It came with two red in the front. I purchased two (pack of two) Corsair AF120's :)

brookelog 1 point 48 months ago

Ah! Thank you very much!

nervozer4 4 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

fx 6300+m5a970, cant go wrong. Got the same.

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

Yeah its been a breeze so far :)

GumbleGames 1 point 46 months ago

How are the fans on that puppy? Ima considering them

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 2 points 46 months ago

They are amazing! Not too bright, not too dim, very quiet and they push a lot of air. Haven't had any issues with em so i highly recommend!

GumbleGames 1 point 46 months ago

How many fans can you fit?

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 2 points 46 months ago

Six total. Two front intake, two top exhaust, one rear exhaust, one bottom intake. All 120mm.

GumbleGames 1 point 46 months ago

How did the cpu fan fit with the case?

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 2 points 46 months ago

It fit perfectly actually. I was worried that it wouldn't fit either since at the time of purchase, this case was new and Rosewill didn't specify the specs on CPU clearance, so I contacted them and asked if the Enermax ETS T40 would fit and they said yes. I was worried the side panel wouldn't fit with it, but there is still a few mm's left so no issues :)

forcefear799 1 point 46 months ago

+1 For great overall build. 6300 is a little weak for DayZ, but thats just the game. Fox racing tattoo though ._.

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 46 months ago

Thank you. Yeah it is running fine though, still playable. Just still not optimized since it's still an alpha. And yup, been riding since I was seven years old.

That_Guy7144 1 point 45 months ago

hows that 660?? ive been looking for a decent priced GPU

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 2 points 45 months ago

Its a great mid range card. Though now discontinued. I would go for a card with 3GB or 4GB of vram.. such as an R9 280, R9 280X or the 4GB version of a GTX 960!

Antoni3310 1 point 43 months ago

Is there a good cpu cooler you know of that lights up red instead?

This one is the only one with a red LED that I'd recommend. Or you can get the Enermax one I have on this build, then buy the red LED Enermax Twister fan :)

Antoni3310 1 point 43 months ago

Alright thank you

Antoni3310 1 point 39 months ago

Does the stealth case come with the blue LED fans in the front or did you add those yourself? Sorry I'm new to all this

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 39 months ago

Nah. It originally came with 2 red LED fans but it was replaced with 4 blue corsair air series fans. -violets BF

Antoni3310 1 point 39 months ago

And do those fans work really good?

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 39 months ago

Very good. Push a lot of air and aren't loud at all, even under load they're still pretty quiet.

Feliks 1 point 42 months ago

Awesome deal on that PSU! Wish I could have gotten that! XD

(also scroll down I asked a question about the R9 280x hehe)

JakeCondon1 1 point 32 months ago

Out of the box are the LEDs blue? or can you change them?

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 2 points 32 months ago

The case came with two green LED fans in the front originally. I swapped em to the blue Corsair ones. Thermaltake has RGB fans called the Riing series though.

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

Came with red* orignally

JesterActual 1 point 32 months ago

Awesome build! How's Arma 3 run on it though?

Zadasdg 1 point 24 months ago

So i know this has been up for a while but i had a question. Would you recommend this for a first time build? Im not a tech savy person but my cousin is willing to help me build my rig if i give him a list and this looks solid

SpaceNarwhal -1 points 47 months ago

just get him a GTX 960/970 instead of a R9 280X. The 960 is about 20% cheaper and extremely close to being as powerful as the best R9 280X but the 970 REFERENCE CARD is better than the best R9 280X and the R9 280X uses much more power like most AMD gpu's in comparison to Nvidia gpu's

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 2 points 47 months ago

660 vs 960 is barely an upgrade, and he doesn't need a 970. 280x still kicks the 960's butt. Plus, not worried about power consumption which is why i chose a 620w psu, and heat isn't an issue either. Upgrading a 660 to a 960 is basically pointless.

SpaceNarwhal -1 points 47 months ago

http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=2436&gid2=1860&compare=geforce-gtx-960-2gb-vs-radeon-r9-280x Like I said, the R9 280X isn't much better than the 960 and the 960 uses significantly less power and is cheaper, off you still want to get the 280X then I'd recommend getting a larger psu. You'll need it.

Feliks 0 points 42 months ago

psh dude... the r9 280x blows the 960 out of the water.. comparatively speaking lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEWABNJi6Rc http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

the 970 is better than the R9 280x, and is also priced accordingly. The ONLY better thing about 960 is power consumption and honestly when someone asks "what's the better card" they want performance, not consumption efficiency, especially when they have a 80+ Bronze 620W PSU lol

violetrainxx submitter 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

Thats definitely a coincidence! Awesome setup either way nonetheless.
