Description

Godzilla began as a budget gaming build that I saved up for in the summer of 2012. As my first build, I made a few mistakes, and I've learned a lot from it (especially cable management, as you can see). I bought most of it as a barebones kit from Tiger Direct, and I've added a few bits and pieces as we've gone. I got the CM GX650, Dell keyboard and monitor from a friend who upgraded his setup and had no use for them.

I use it mostly for gaming, and it does most of it perfectly. The GT 440 is definitely on the low end, but since my tv has a max of 1366x768, it runs everything at maximum settings. It idles a bit high for my liking, but it never rises too drastically. Some of the higher games it runs are Darksiders, Fallout: New Vegas, Borderlands, Saints Row: The Third, and Arma 2. It had a terrible time when I tried Planetside 2 however.

At this point, I'm trying to decide whether I want to upgrade it further, or just start a new build with everything I've learned.

4/30/2013 Update Added an ASRock 970 Extreme3 and AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black to replace the heavily dated and limited processor and mobo. Really need a nice heatsink to go with it, cause the Phenom heats up like crazy. Most likely getting a 212 EVO or a NH-D14, whatever my price range is at the time. Feel free to make some suggestions for it!

Pictures up! More cable managing (as much as I can get with this dangus case).

I like your Green Godzilla idea. Way to take a case that was boring and try to do something with it. I left mine as it was years ago and hated it until I replaced it.

Your mobo can have its bios flashed to run an FX processor, so it is upgradeable, but your would have to overclock to run 1600 ram as 1333 is native. So on the cheap you could upgrade CPU to an Fx, RAM, and Video and keep the Mobo. Mainly it depends on your budget. Good Luck.

Thank you! The theme is one of the main reasons I want to upgrade the build, it's just too unique for me to part with. As for upgrades, I was actually considering a new mobo, since it only has sata2, and I've got a sata3 hdd. And I feel like a microATX is a bit silly in a mid tower. I really wish motherboards were still green though :(

It is a nice upgraded build, but I hope you will get the funds for a better build in the future! Also, don't worry about PlanetSide 2; it is poorly optimized for GPUs and is more CPU-centric, explaining why ur PC is struggling as it has an old Athlon II.
