Description

Steam and Origin Gaming PC with a little programming and video work thrown in.

YouTube Video of the PC

YouTube Video of the Avexir Raiden Memory in action - Love those plasma tubes.

UPDATE: After many of the comments, I re-evaluated my input peripherals' color scheme and swapped out the Logitech 602 for a White Razer Taipan, and the Microsoft Sculpt for a Vortex KBC POK3R - White Case - PBT Keycaps - Cherry Mx-Clear [Metal Casing].

I updated some of the photos above to reflect the new input peripherals.

whistles now THAT is a battlestation. Excellent color coordination, great cable management, hardware, and equipment. +20 if I could.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Thanks!

Persicuta 1 Build 3 points 36 months ago

I personally think you killed it mate! Great EVGA GPU's going on. Hybrid all the way :D outstanding selection on parts, especially the power supply. Great identity on your setup. Great theme, excellent cable management. Great build!

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

Thanks! I was going for Shiva from FFX's color scheme: https://youtu.be/b61tL2FT3A0?t=3m50s

LeMMingSlayeR 22 Builds 3 points 36 months ago

Your computer cost more than my truck. I love it. +1 for awesome

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 3 points 36 months ago

Well to be fair, many of the components over time have been bought on discount or sales, so the PCPartP price isn't "really" the price I paid overall.

SuperTailsHD 1 point 36 months ago

Then i would imagine what your truck looks like. ..

BenjaminCooley32 1 point 36 months ago

A 6000 dollar truck is in no way a ****** truck

Nater650 1 point 11 months ago

Throw in ridiculously high sales tax and it would have costed even more

[comment deleted by staff]
Nater650 1 point 9 months ago

You are joking, right?

[comment deleted by staff]
Nater650 1 point 9 months ago

Please stop being mean about it

sanchezliny 3 points 36 months ago

Ok I get it you want me to be really jealous. Awesome build. Obvious +1.

bigg_critter 1 Build 2 points 36 months ago

You get my plus one simply for goijg all balls on this beauty! I love it man

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Thanks!

JafferAli 1 Build 2 points 36 months ago

I kinda stalked your profile, and I've gotta say. You have a pretty cool job...

Ryuhara 2 points 36 months ago

Oh I always associated Shiva with red...

Jk amazing build. Clean look, great color coordination, and beautiful cable management. +1

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Thanks!!!

Well... I was going for the Final Fantasy X version of Shiva... with the white, blue motif with touches of light green and purple(UV in this case).

Check out her color scheme here: https://youtu.be/b61tL2FT3A0?t=3m50s

SuperTailsHD 2 points 36 months ago

You should do 4k gaming..

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

I could... but I prefer the buttery smooth framerate of GSYNC using a 144hz capable display than the raw resolution. When they build 4k displays that can hit that high a refresh, I'll get one.

ThugginMcMuffin 3 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

Im glad to see more and more people using Avexir RAM. not just the Raiden series, but also the Core Series as well.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Just wish they had more lighted DDR4 available in the US. Can't find any outside of their product pages. Just DDR3 on retailers/distributors sites.

ThugginMcMuffin 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

true true. even then, not many options for ddr3 besides avexir and crucial balistix. and crucial is extremely slow at 1600.

tddirtbiker 2 points 36 months ago

All I Can SAY IS DANG. 100000/10 DANG

Iceman320 1 Build 2 points 36 months ago

For a second I thought this was a custom water loop, then realised it was an AIO and two hybrids haha.

Pretty darn slick. +1

Any reason you didn't go for a custom loop?

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 3 points 36 months ago

Got the cpu cooler and the hybrids at different times. Good enough performance and a mix of laziness (no maintenance) and inertia sealed the deal.

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

Woooo! Inertia! had to google that one but gosh darn if it doesn't describe me perfectly.

Yeah your GPU temps are pretty sweet, what are your MOBO temps/internal case temps?

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Highest mobo temp is usually below 50C but CPU can hit 60+C

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

Still a pretty good load temp for 4.7Ghz

AW1018 1 Build 2 points 36 months ago

Damn mate. Nice job with the color coordination!

piemancoder 2 points 36 months ago

Super beautiful build! Definitely earned my +1!

a_w_green 2 points 36 months ago

What does an orange soda popsicle and this build have in common?

They are both.. Fanta-stic(k)s

I'll show myself out.

MrBig 2 points 36 months ago

have been thinking about a flight sim system for a long time. and you give me a good example. great job

aludka 1 Build 2 points 36 months ago

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Hah, the League.... not quite what this was referencing but I'll allow it... ;)

Tonyvuknome 2 points 36 months ago

awesome setup. ugly carpet

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 3 points 36 months ago

Hah, totally agree with you there... since this is in a spare bedroom, wasn't worth it to rip it up yet.

royroy666 2 points 36 months ago

F'ing UBER, the rig, montior and peripherals, color coordination, cable managment. Absolutely awesome.

Some0ne 2 points 36 months ago

lol just anything on your table costs more than my entire setup xD

LittleL0L 1 Build 2 points 36 months ago

dem water cables tho :o

Seriously, nice build.

Frostymaine 2 points 36 months ago

Nice to see systems when someone brings their A game; planning, purchasing and implementing ... tri-fecta!!

AceBalthazar 2 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

i would literally just stand behind the chair and be afraid to touch it. it looks so perfect that i don't want any part of it to move.

that RAM tho... i wish i had a job now

iCalvus 1 Build 2 points 36 months ago

Beautiful build, I particularly like the Elite: Dangerous trade route XD Question; what chair is that with the controls mounted to the arms?

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 2 points 36 months ago
iCalvus 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

I figured that the arm attachments were part of the chair. I am getting the arm attachment system, thank you for the info.

rhali8 2 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

Very nice! Here is a fat, whopping, huge +1!

DBBuilder 1 Build 2 points 36 months ago

Songster 1 Build 2 points 36 months ago

Builds like yours, is what inspired me to do my first build, back in early 2014.

Amazing setup. And without a doubt, your rig will give you plenty of joy for a long, long time.

TheDivineOnyX 2 points 30 months ago

we have the same case!! We must both have great taste :D!!

dragoon20005 4 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 3 points 36 months ago

Shiva as in Final Fantasy Ice Goddess Summon Shiva.

mhiziab 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

What chair is that in the first image?

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

X Rocker Executive Office Chair: http://amzn.to/1lLx4Lr

faz919 1 point 36 months ago

Why the OS? You can get Windows 10 for free!

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

I upgraded for free... I didn't actually buy it. PCPartPicker just listed the price, so kept it to factor into the worth of the system.

Jynxable 1 point 36 months ago

nice uh... mousepad.

Jynxable 1 point 36 months ago

I was just kidding bro.. Lmao. It's just kinda small for what I play

vekspec 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

meanwhile on the Battlestation Jawdrop....

amazing build and overall setup. love the layout and station. well done sir! glad to see someone still using optical disc drives ;)

+1! should be featured!

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Thanks!

Got the space and the drive already so why not. Never use it though.

JustEvan 1 point 36 months ago

why spend that much money and not get ddr4 memory

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Already had the DDR3 from previous incarnations of my system so cheaper this way.

atiqsumon 1 point 36 months ago

A perfect presentation.. I love them all.

DKG 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

Is the the badge on the cpu cooler removable? I want to paint it gold.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Possibly, haven't tried. The metal piece is separate from the plastic of the pump housing, but I don't know if it's glued down or just held via tabs.

Tennis987 1 point 36 months ago

Does it go a stable 60 FPS in 4k gaming?

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Probably. Wouldnt know since I'm using a 1440 144hz gsync monitor. But at 1440 its often hovering between 80-144fps depending on the game.

JuniorVid 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

Go India!

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

This one has nothing to do with India. "Shiva" is a name used in the Japanese Final Fantasy games for an Ice Goddess summon, and in Jewish lore for a seven day mourning period, as well as the Indian red destroyer god. So three separate meanings from three different cultures that have nothing to do with each other. In this case it's the Japanese gaming related one.

bmccarthy8989 10 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

It looks amazing all around. Looks well built and seems like a lot of thought went in to it.

However, as a "Featured Build" I expected to see way more of a description and product review. Thoughts behind your build, etc. So much awesomeness, so little explanation.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

Thanks, I'll probably add some more description/thoughts after the Thanksgiving holiday. Not much of a writer and wasn't planning for this to be a "Featured Build". Especially since this wasn't an "all-at-once" build and is just how my system evolved over time. I just wanted to document what my current setup has.

bmccarthy8989 10 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Understandable, more or less curious about your experiences with the hardware. A lot of people on PCPP look at these builds as inspiration for their own. So its good to give a little feedback with the things you liked, things you didn't like. Things you would of done different, areas you had a little trouble with, etc. Thanks for considering it!

dennisk919 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

what joystick are troughs and where can I find them?

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago
billwagnerrr 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

what kinda temps do you get after playing for several hours?

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

The CPU stabilizes around 65C or so on full load, less with regular gaming. The GPU's never get warmer than 50C or so.

ShootingPlenty 1 point 36 months ago

SLI 980 TIs on a 1440p monitor? :p

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Yup... 1440p at 144hz GSYNC (and staying at high framerates depending on game) beats 4k at 60hz/60fps. If they had ultrawide 4k displays with 144hz and higher GSYNC, I'd jump on that, but they don't.

handyteddy 1 point 36 months ago

Did you buy that chair, or its custom made, give me a link if you bought it

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Which chair? I have two in the photos.

The regular gaming chair: http://amzn.to/1lLx4Lr

And the Flight Chair setup: It's a combo of this chair with these arm attachments minus the keyboard tray and industrial velcro for the X-52 HOTAS.

handyteddy 1 point 36 months ago

Wow, thanks so much for the links, it really helped me , Your BattleStation has been my wallpaper since you built it :) ... Thumbs Up brother

JamesJB 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

Nice :)

One thing I would never do...

Is have a computer on the floor, too much dust and stuff down there.

Every computer I've had has been on a table or something, never on the floor,I care about my computers too much.

Especially a $6000 computer like yours.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Dust filters... plus a plastic floor mat, takes care of all that. There's just as much dust on table tops as there are on regularly cleaned floors. Dust doesn't magically avoid table/desktops.

Besides, a Full Tower case like this on a desktop is a no-go.

JamesJB 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

I have it on a Desktop and its doing fine, why no go?

I understand "Dust doesn't magically avoid table/desktops" but through experience when you have your tower on the floor the dust seems worse.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

And 30 years experience says otherwise... depends on the surfaces and how often you clean.

zengi709 1 point 36 months ago

Hello. That's some fantastic work. I am putting together an LGA1151/DDR4 build and have been very inspired by this. If it's not too much trouble, could you please explain the fan layout / which fans went where? Which direction the air is flowing etc. Thank you.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

All radiators are push/pull setups (one large 4xfan radiator at the top and 2x2 fan radiators for the EVGA Hybrids up front) with one additional auxilliary fan below the two front fans, two fans on the bottom of the case, and one more exhausting out the back near the CPU.

Front and Bottom are Intakes while Back and Top are Exhaust.

zengi709 1 point 36 months ago

Thank you. Much appreciated.

KalinkaJohnson 1 point 36 months ago

I hate you

elvenson 5 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Love the look of it all... that case is awesome and those accessories.... mmmmm.... lol

too bad the nicer chair wasnt the one decked out with a flight kit

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

Yeah, i mounted them to the other office chair before i got the nicer one. Too lazy to migrate them over ;)

Saar 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

Very clean setup and color scheme. Sexy PC, too. And the chair, what a nice touch.

Although I'm surprised to see such good audio equipment paired with those terrible Harman Kardon Soundsticks. Mine broke after less than a year. I replaced them with some good bookshelf speakers and you wouldn't believe the difference it makes.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

The newer HK Soundsticks 3 are crappy, but these are the much older HK soundsticks that have lived through 3 Macs and two PC generations and still sound great.

toxicminibro 1 point 36 months ago

:O

fourwheeler2000 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

i literally said whoa out loud that is one incredible build. Incredible job!

PlaYaCe 1 point 36 months ago

I really, really like this build. I'm actually interested in the model of that chair and its price. I'm in the market for a new one and i've set my price range at a $350 cap.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Here it is: http://amzn.to/1PuSNE2

It's $121.99 right now on Amazon so less than half your budget.

PlaYaCe 1 point 36 months ago

Thanks. Is it comfy?

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

For a very cheap chair... it's comfy. Best to ignore the speakers embedded in the headrest though, not worth it to set it up.

PlixlePlays 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

What chair is that?

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago
marshallbryant 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

could I ask the benifit of liquid cooling. I have a hyper 212 EVO on my 4790k running at stock speeds and my temps are 30 at idle and 65 under max load, I've seen it go to 69 but I wouldn't spend $110 to save 3 degrees.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

There's also the benefit of quiet compared to aircooled CPU and GPUs.

marshallbryant 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

But is that even honestly worth an additional $70+? I mean my 212 Evo with with 2 fans on it isn't even loud, audible yes but not loud. I'd expect better and lower temps for so much more money

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

How quickly does the temp drop back down to the 30's after gaming or load stops on the 212 EVO? On H20 mine goes back to around 32 within a few seconds. It's not just peak temp, but how long it takes to drop temps too.

marshallbryant 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

Sorry, read over my comment again, afraid it sounded kind of douchy (which wasn't the intent) my temps peak around 55 c under an intense gaming load and when I'm done they drop to the low 40's to high 30's within a few seconds and after about a minute or 2 they drop back down to 30-35. I've got a temporary solution to liquid, if I have my window open to my room my temps drop about 5-10 degrees. I've gotten idle as low as 19 before.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

No prob... Didn't take it harshly anyway ;) Many of my systems are aircooled and this is one of my first with All-in-one liquid cooling. Back in the stoneage, I used to use peltiers and foam padding around old Slot1 Pentiums, so there's less necessity in my builds than just experimentation and liking how things work/look. Only ones I haven't tried yet are full mineral oil immersion and LN2.

schnoogens 1 Build 1 point 35 months ago

This is gorgeous, nice build! Love the name as well - for me it's a reference to the show The League.

i-c 1 point 35 months ago

What did you put around those tubes? Looks awesome coiled up like that.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 34 months ago

Look for UV Reactive coils from Amazon or http://www.performance-pcs.com/ . They come in various colors and widths.

49ers 1 point 35 months ago

This is a beautiful build with some amazing parts in there. Really pretty to look at. I like it a lot.

StarBro 1 point 35 months ago

I love your build beyond words. The white / blue color scheme with the UV lighting is surreal.

I am currently working on a build with a EVGA GeForce GTX 980 ti hybrid in a Corsair 780T case and I am going with a pull/push configuration much like you have.

Orteez 1 point 30 months ago

Where did you get that chair?

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 27 months ago

Amazon... foot broke a month ago so went with a different white one also from Amazon.

Greg7579 1 Build 1 point 30 months ago

If you are still monitoring this.... Would you still use this case? I'm about to do my first build on a 3.5k dollar system using just one GPU (1080). I know the case is huge and has 5.25 front bays that will be empty. Would you recommend a different case? I'm about to go with this case.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 27 months ago

I'd still go with this case... love it.

Only reason I would go with another case is if I wanted tempered glass instead of a plastic window.

IAEInferno 1 point 27 months ago

Hi, is the Harmann Kardon sound sticks any good?

ogxfrylock 1 point 26 months ago

Love the coil idea and how well all of the lighting came together on this rig. The tubing idea is really cool, do you remember which ones you used?

Pure_Darkness 1 point 24 months ago

how much was the ram

SynTek21 1 point 24 months ago

VERY NICE!! Love it.

Ghrolt 1 Build 0 points 36 months ago

Oh please tell me you're gonna stick the new NZXT Hue+ in that case instead of that catatode.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Why? The NZXT Hue+ doesn't do UV Lighting. The Cathode UV's are brighter against neon paint and neon plastic than LED's (which I've tried before in UV). So how would the NZXT Hue+ be any better for this application if I'm trying to do glowing neon stuff?

[comment deleted]
jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Didn't pay for all of this all at once... and the prices are just what PCPartPicker chose as cheapest today. This is my main PC (also got a video workstation/server in an old Mac Pro) so parts got replaced over time.

IIRC Shiva is the Hindu destroyer god. I also have a good friend who is named Shiva. He's not a small guy.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 4 points 36 months ago

Actually Shiva has three totally separate meanings (four if you count your large friend).

"Shiva" is a name used in the Japanese Final Fantasy games for an Ice Goddess Summon, in Jewish lore for a seven day mourning period, and in India for the red destroyer god. So three separate meanings from three different cultures that have nothing to do with each other.

In this case it's the Japanese Final Fantasy gaming related one.

Jaad 2 points 36 months ago

ff14 is mah main game. +1 for your build

FukudaSan 1 point 36 months ago

In fact FF's Shiva is inspired by the Hindu lord Shiva. Also Shiva is no "red destroyer god", there is no such stupid thing in Hindusim. He is comparable to Zeus in Greek mythology and Odin in the nordic. You should look into more sources than just wikipedia. Nevertheless nice battlestation.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 3 points 36 months ago

Didn't claim extensive religious knowledge but... thanks.

Although he is considered the destroyer god, and Sivan is "The Red One" in Tamil so whatevs.

rushipatel72 3 points 36 months ago

Shiva is blue, take it from a Hindu :P. Amazing station though. I gotta go budget, this is my planned build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xGBL3C

ThugginMcMuffin 3 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

Shiva was the goddess of Ice and Snow in Final Fantasy. Hence the White and blue.

I love overkill B)

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Though gaming is the primary focus here, I do other stuff (development and video work). Plus, it wouldn't look right to have empty slots with those Avexir Raiden sticks... you just HAVE to fill them up. Gotta love those plasma tubes. Here they are in action: https://youtu.be/gDpvTyIdi9Q

As for Skylake, parts of this system predate Skylake's release, and it hasn't had a big enough perf jump to warrant a CPU/Mobo/Mem swap...yet.

[comment deleted by staff]
jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Already expanded the description before you wrote this response.

[comment deleted by staff]
jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Well considering I basically copied my description change into the comment that you replied to, it kinda stands to reason that the description change came first ;)

Could have been site caching?

LeMMingSlayeR 22 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

I'm starting to think that 8GB won't be enough for newer games anymore, I saw that Star Wars Battlefront recommends 16GB system RAM for optimal settings... I just bought another 8GB kit of my G.skill Ripjaws X on Newegg for $29, the good thing about DDR3 is its getting cheaper now since DDR4 is becoming more popular.

[comment deleted by staff]
jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

To be fair, ability to play it on low settings is one thing, but playing at 1440 or 4k resolution at Ultra everything settings including supersampling textures is another.

Then again, no matter how beautiful it is, SW:Battlefront isn't as hard on memory usage as some other less efficiently coded games out there.

johngerges582 2 points 36 months ago

Battlefront is really optimized. Pretty surprising honestly. Playing Ultra 1080p with my 960 at 55-65fps. RAM usage never went past 3gb.

jedimstr submitter 3 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

Yeah, DICE know what they're doing in terms of visuals and pure efficient coding... wish Rocksteady could learn from them.
