So a coworker of mine challenged me to build a gaming rig for him at $250 that could handle Civilization 5 at max settings, being unaware of what I was getting myself into I accepted!
My first stop was r/ Hardwareswap, this swap board has a ton of great deals! I picked up a cpu, mobo, case & ram combo. It was a steal and my first swap. This was where my first problem I encounter happened at, I couldn't get the motherboard to post! I tried every trick in the book! Reset cmos and bios, moved the ram in every configuration that was possible, tried different power supplies, applied new thermal paste the cpu even unmounted the motherboard and looked for a short of any kind! Finally tried swapping out to a new mobo from amazon and it posted first try! (I left the pricing the same because I am negotiating a refund for at least some money for the mobo).
I continued to craigslist for a local GPU with no luck and ended up getting a best offer on a 750ti(I know the RX460 would have been much better but it wasn't quite out yet) and a 1TB HD from ebay!
I initially set this up with a old 320gb laptop HD and decided it deserved a real 1TB drive, only problem was the HD bay was blocked by the CPU Cooler! So I had to completely uninstall the CPU to get it in :(.
I finally had everything setup and booting! it ran civilization 5 smoothly on max and will be delivered to my coworker shortly!
