I started this build, my first build three years ago in the winter of 2012. I have recently started an upgrade on my system i have upgraded my monitor, GPU, PSU, and case to what is currently listed. I ended up doing the red on my case vents with plastidip. The plastidip turned out better then expected. I plan on upgrading my processor to the AMD FX 8350. I currently have 1000 watts of power to supply the power for upgrades to come, and I plan adding at least a second monitor and maybe a 3rd. I plan on getting 16:9 for my second and 3rd monitor. I lastly plan on getting an SSD my operating system. I am currently in college and use this build for school, browsing the web and playing games on steam. I have had a blast making this machine and to keep the upgrades coming. Let me know what you think.

I plan on upgrading to the AMD FX 8350 I just upgraded to the 290x and I plan on upgrading in the future. Thats why I chose that psu

Nice build, wait for the Christmas sales to get the 8350 I got mine for 129.99 last year from amazon.

Really nice system, if you can try to save for something such as an FX 8350. Should help a lot with bottlenecking.

you'll want to run the vga cables that came with your power supply to your video card instead of the molex adapters we see in your photos, there is a difference in the amperage supported by those lines and what they are made for.

the amps on the lines aren't the same as what's dedicated in the power supply to the molex connectors. that's why i have issues with it, well that and the looks compared to just sheathed cables.

those are the current prices for items based on whats online, not what the submitter spent. we have no idea when they built this pc due to lack of description or modified parts list for prices spent.

I'd agree the PSU is overkill, unless he's planning to overclock or do Crossfire.

To OP:

Really clean internals, like the symmetry in it, wished my chassis looked that good on the inside. I agree with the others you should think about upgrading your CPU, seems like a bit of a bottleneck, and a waste of your mobo/psu. If you can, overclock at least, you have plenty of headroom with your PSU.

The reason you shouldn't skimp on the board is that cheap boards are not held up to the same quality assurance. A cheap board often has around a 20% chance to be either DOA or worse die after a few months.

"A cheap board often has around a 20% chance to be either DOA or worse die after a few months." Its true a cheap board might not last very long, and this is especially true with AM3+ boards. Reference the Msi 970 G43, it was absolute garbage. But a cheap board means nothing about DOA rates. There might be an added layer or burn in at the factory for high end products, like Gigabytes Ultra Durable process of doing a 24 hour stress test before releasing a board. But boards being dead on arrival is more about problems during shipping. There is less then a 1% DOA rate for motherboards, and that is across most major brands.

I was mainly basing my 20% estimate on the one star reviews I've seen while trying to find good budget boards. The one star reviews are primarily made up of DOA and short life spans. There are the occasional ones about customer service but those are few and far between. Amongst lower end boards, based off of those reviews, there does seem to be a higher DOA ratio but I suppose that there could be another explanation, but either way I was just making an overarching claim for both DOA and short life spans. And ya, my tech-class had ordered 5 AM3+ boards, may have even been G43's, and after only a year of extremely minimal use (once or twice per month) only two still worked.
