Description

The prices include CA sales tax/shipping/handling and are before rebate, the price you see is the price I initially paid out of pocket.

This little machine was used as a birthday present to my son, it will also serve as his trophy because he won 1st place at the spelling bee in his school this year. He beat everyone at the school... even though was faced with an age/grade disadvantage. He will mainly use it for Minecraft... as well as whatever other games he adds. In the future he will do his schoolwork on this desktop. This is our second build since last "Black Friday", we had no problems... it posted up first time.

=Build description=

-CPU: It will do whatever he needs it to do for many years hopefully. Still unlocked for your overclocking pleasure, and still the only 8-core desktop processor around. Unmatched multitasking and pure core performance with a new architecture.

-CPU cooler: Unique, we added the blue led Coolermaster JetFlo fan for more powerful air movement, as well as inside case lighting that matches his color scheme.

-Motherboard: He wanted blue... this Asus board has all the current features with the correct colors.

-Memory: Quick, quality 8GB in blue.

-Storage: This little hybrid drive was brand new technology when we bought it. SSD w/HDD for reliable 1TB mass storage.

-Video card: Came with $80.00 free game coupon, has AMD TrueAudio & Mantle for future gaming pleasure, it will run any game a kid wants on 1080p medium-ultra sets.

-Case: Great value, basic, good looking, with excellent reviews & plenty of space for cable management. I took out the regular mounting bracket for the storage devices to clean up the inside aesthetics, as well as to provide better airflow. The hybrid drive was then mounted above the optical drive using an adapter. This uncluttered the inside of this case & made it possible to use only 1 modular power cable for both drives.

-Power supply: Semi-modular single rail w/plenty of juice for this little rig... with a bit extra in case of a future CrossFire setup.

-Optical drive: All blacked out front. This thing can burn XGD3/overburn DVD's, I use Sony products in my home theater... so I trusted that it would be reliable enough to load Windows & spin some discs.

-Operating system: 8.1 is quick & easy to use... it was an easy choice for us.

*We also added in a few 120mm case fans to keep it cool & clean. The keyboard/mouse combo from CMStorm, & the Razer headset were birthday gifts to my son from family & were received after the photos of the build.

=For a relatively budget friendly set up, we are proud of how this little PC turned out... my son is happy.=

I lol'ed when I saw one pic of the wiring all loose (routed, but loose), then the next it was all WHA-BAM! NEAT!

Good build, like how the CPU fan directly intakes air from outside the case (get a dust filter). I think you overspent on your GPU, as you could have picked up a 750Ti for the same price.

Edit: an 80$ games coupon... Dealbreaker :P GJ on that pickup!

All and all, not bad :D +1

Thanks... I put those loose wiring pics in just to show the progression. I really like how this case handles wires & relocating the hard drive really neatened up the inside.

That is an awesome gift for your son I know he will enjoy it and congrats to him for winning his spelling bee.

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 1 point 60 months ago

He likes it & he had fun helping with building it. He just said "thanks".

I love Cooler Master Jetflo's! I have 14 in my PC lol.

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 1 point 60 months ago

Yeah, they are excellent. I put 1 blue in this build & 2 reds in my other build called SCOUT2. Quiet & move a lot of air for the 120mm size.

DanJZ0404 2 points 60 months ago

Nice.

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 2 points 60 months ago

Thanks.

Normally I have lots of criticism for builds but I don't know enough about AMD CPUS to criticise them.

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 1 point 60 months ago

This is the second FX-8350 I've built with. For the price, the AMD CPU's are hard to beat. The first one I built with is rock steady at 4.51Ghz with a light water cooler. It works good enough for gaming, streaming, Fraps, Skype running all at once. It is really snappy & hasn't had any problems so far.

Akut 1 Build 0 points 60 months ago

core for core, intel smacks around any AMD CPU (even the i3 gives a high clocked FX a run for it's money in single threaded performance) AMD CPUs also draw a lot more power. But, you can't beat an 8-core for 200 bucks, and speaking of cores, thats where AMD shines. At even pricepoints (FX 8350 VS i5 4440), The AMD has 4 more cores, much, much higher clocked (even at stock), and will steamroll any i3 and nearly any i5 in multi-threaded performance. I see no downside to picking up an FX processor. The only time I do criticize an FX if it's an enthusiast level rig (where any i7 from intel, including first gen, will stomp that 8350)

Then again, you can always upgrade to the 9590, if Your MOBO supports it. But even at that pricepoint, I'd go with the i7, just to save ~140W of power draw.

If I could get a computer like this by simply winning the spelling bee geese I would have studied for one. That is a powerful computer just for school work and minecraft...

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 1 point 60 months ago

Yeah... it is kinda overbuilt, but I'm hoping it will give him good service for many years of school & studying. BTW, I credit his playing Minecraft for winning the spelling bee. All the commands & chatting on the multiplayer servers taught him to spell correctly.

Yukinoinu 1 Build 2 points 60 months ago

Well good. He is not one of the people that ghetto type online. Also I am kind of the same way. Just built my computer our builds are kind of similar except I have an EVO not PRO motherboard, 8320 not 8350 and 2133 Sniper RAM instead of 1600 Ripjaw. I most likely will not be doing anything for a while xD, but as anyone knows saying not doing for a while is a absolute lie xDD

How is the asus r7 260x going there bro?? is it ok until now??

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 1 point 52 months ago

My son and I are very happy with it... if you want to see gameplay vids of how it works go to YouTube and search: "Noah2234718" that's my son's channel that he uploads his gameplay. I have a few of my older vids also using the R7-260X... search YouTube under "MAXXHEW"

joem19 1 Build 2 points 52 months ago

ow thanks .. that would help.. :) preach!!

jacwa1001405 2 points 51 months ago

Have you considered getting a modular power supply with some blue 3rd party cables? That would make it look a lot more swag.

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 1 point 51 months ago

Hmm... haven't thought of that. Maybe on my next build, I'm doing another one with pretty much the same parts this Christmas. Thanks for the suggestion.

ipcn00b101 2 Builds 1 point 60 months ago

If it were me I probably would've gone with a higher psu so if he does decide in the future he wants to overclock he can :P but overall very nice starter build!

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 1 point 60 months ago

I was going to get the 600w, but I was trying to do whatever I could to keep the price under $1000. 500w will power everything now, & according to the power estimator on this site... it should have an extra like 25w left if we add another R7-260X.

tjb423 1 Build 2 points 59 months ago

Just to let you know that isn't so accurate, sure it shows what it could be at max load but that doesn't include any overclocking, just something to look out for, overall i really like it compared to mine although i have a lower motherboard and the FX 8320 in my build.

If I were him I'd love that for Minecraft and all. I'm 16 so I play minecraft here and there with a few mods, not that your son would or wouldn't know them they can have your PC run the game in Multi-Core mode rather than in Single core mode. The mod for that is called Optifine, it lets you tweak the game a bit and get the best performance you can. Not sure how old he is but tell him I said Congrats to winning the spelling bee, that's a great accomplishment and he should be proud!

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 1 point 59 months ago

Yeah... this thing does very well in Minecraft. When he gets older (old enough to play the adult games) hopefully this build will still be able to run the new games then. If you like multiplayer Minecraft servers... come join us on a server called Mythiccrafters, Noah is a donator+, I'm the Head-Admin. It's a 500 slot PVP, raiding, griefing, faction, jobs, marriage server that has been around for over 3 years. Website is- http://rensserver.enjin.com IP is- 173.15.60.243

leftyrojas430 1 Build 1 point 57 months ago

How did you remove the drive cage?

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 1 point 57 months ago

There are a few screws that will take it out.

MiguelXx3D 1 point 48 months ago

Dude nice build could you please tell me what do you think about this one??

MAXXHEW submitter 4 Builds 2 points 48 months ago

Looks like a great setup. The only thing that looks odd to me would be the RAM, 16Gb might be more than you need... but I don't know what you are going to be using your pc for. If this will be for gaming, most gamers find that 8Gb is more than enough. You could save a good bit of money that way also, then you could buy more games! Anyways, if you do need the 16Gb... your system looks like it will do just fine. Good luck.

MiguelXx3D 1 point 48 months ago

I just like having + than enough RAM ´cause i had problems of not enough RAM so i have something like a trauma with RAM... and i am in love with Corsair...

MiguelXx3D 1 point 48 months ago

and i also had problems with Graphic Acceleration... Any idea of why this happens???
