Description

I replaced my main workstation (3930k w/ triple HD monitors) with a 7980xe rig w/ triple 4k.

All of the machines work together over a local network to render images super fast. The main programs I use are 3ds Max and Vray.

This is my 4th build, but gave my old main rig to my gf because 6 cores isn't significant enough to justify buying another render license. If I were to start over, I would have 1 main rig with packed gpu render node, as gpu rendering is becoming ridiculously amazing.

If you are perhaps curious about the Wall-PC in front, here is the build log: https://imgur.com/gallery/Euknr

Setup was a breeze, but had so many problems with drivers and Windows 10 stuff.

Happy to answer any questions.

Yup, I remember your previous builds and liked them too, very nice work.

I also like to see this much power actually used for work, it feels like the parts are really fulfilling a purpose.

It's a panel you can take off. I prefer it off for better air flow

I don't think that's an M.2 slot up there. but there are M.2 fans and heatsinks, the drives can get fairly hot

Congrats on your C700P build! +1 I see you got your LL fans. I switched to Thermaltake's latest Premium Riing fans because the LL's wouldn't remember the color I set, if I powered down the psu....weird. I'd have to say that the C700P, is one of the best cases ever made. I really do like the Quadstellar by Deepcool, but the GPU compartment gets really hot for 1080ti SLI.

Anyway I just wanted to stop by and say how awesome your setup is!

I'm glad my build helped. I just showed my son's your setup! They love your Bumblebee build and C700P with 7980XE.

I've been contemplating going liquid. If I do, I am going with Thermaltake. My temps are really good in the C700P. I really like what Thermaltake is doing, but don't know if I want to deal with the maintenance or hassle of liquid cooling.

Great build here as per your others. I will confess, how are you getting the 48 cores or am I missing something obvious here?

  • 1 point

Hey! Nice builds. I am not a jealous person but if I was… You seem like the person that could give me a straight answer on my current Question.

I am currently working on a 3ds max focused build. I am also going to run Realflow and Davinci Resolve but Max with Vray, Zbrush, Adobe Suite, Marmoset and all of their friends are the main stays of my workflow. I have been cobbling together this build since January and have been researching my parts and hitting buy when prices drop. I am already planning another build with more cores but one machine at a time.

*I am wondering about your choice of Pros over Evos. The motherboard I have bought has two NVME sockets and I only want to fill them once. I am not going any smaller than 1tb regardless but if I can save $200.00CAD by using an Evo over Pro because it won’t make a difference to max I will. Ie. Use the 1tb evo as a boot and software drive and 2tb pro for a swap disk will it matter to max?

Any advice on File/Disk management would be greatly appreciated.

The main Components I am using (and have purchased) are:

*ROG CROSSHAIR VI EXTREME

*RYZEN 7 1800X

*RADEON PRO WX 7100

I also have a 2tb Crucial mx500 that I will be using as a working backup drive and 2tb FireCuda to keep media and games on. I am considering creating an raid but that’s down the road. Once again I thank you in advance for your time considering my question.

Nice rig. I am planning on doing something very similar. Same mobo, same AIO cooler, and same chip.

Any issues with setting up the motherboard? I've heard different stories.

Are you OCing it? If so, how high? And how is the H115i holding up keeping the temps down?

Thanks

Why two GPU's? I was under the understanding SLI GPU's does not help enough to be justified in either gaming or in rendering. I'm looking to build a video rendering rig so I'm asking for educational purposes after Googling about it and then finding your setup.

  • 2 points

I use this rig for 3D rendering. They aren't in SLI. It's an NVlink, and I use it sometimes when the scenes are too large to render with just the RAM of one gpu, so it combines both of them.

  • 1 point

Thank you for the reply! That sounds crazy lol, I think I'm going to go with a RTX 2080 TI for my video rendering rig. I figure 11GB should be enough VRAM for video rendering.
