Description

After 2 years of saving and planning, I was finally able to join the PC master race. As I am now a Uni student I had a limited budget of one grand, luckily I waited out until the black Friday weekend where I was able to get some really good deals.

CPU and GPU- it was always between the i5-4690K paired with the 970 or the i7-4790k paired with the GTX 970. I chose the GTX 970 route due to the superior performance at 1080p and the fact that I didn't really have any need for an i7 due to this computer only being used for gaming and word processing.

CPU Cooler- one of the best looking air coolers out there and because I had to move my computer between university and home I did not feel confident in a water cooler. My cooler actually came broken with the top feeling completely detached, but I ghetto rigged them together so it was fine.

Motherboard- a decent motherboard, but nother special other than it being the only affordable white and black motherboard.

Memory- fast, cheap and good-looking what else would do you want.

Hope you enjoy my build!!

Any problems fitting the 970? I've read in some places that the SATA ports on the mobo stop larger cards fitting properly? This is the only thing putting me off

hey, Yh the SATA ports are a very tight fit, i had to remove my whole card in order to add my new hard drive, if you don't want to go through removing your graphics card every time u want to add a hard drive then i wouldn't recommend the motherboard but if not this board is great. thanks for your comment!!

How hard can you push the card with the cooler?

I have a very very similar build to yours. Hows the gpu and cpu cooler treating you???

Very well thank you :). how about you? I have seen on the internet people complaining about coil whine, I personally haven't had any. Oh and I bloody love phanteks I don't think I could be disappointed with anything they make haha

in a less fanboyish response, the GPU is a beast, been running everything on ultra including far cry, granted I am only on 1080p. I personally do not like dynamic super resolution so I wouldn't get this card just for that. CPU cooler cools well while looking good and not getting too loud even when on 100%, when running furmark for 24 hours my CPU got as far as 61 degrees but that was it, so would defo recommend.

Lovely build! Was just hoping you could help me out with a question about the Phanteks TC12DX? Just wondering which fan you plugged into which connector on the Y splitter cable? I noticed one is three pin and one is 4 pin. Does this mean only one fan is PWM controlled? Thanks
